Awakening of the Scheming Wife
Chapter 42: Chance to apologize? No!

Chapter 42: Chance to apologize? No!

"No. I want to know. Under what circumstances would you share everything with me and would keep everything away from me?" He insisted.

Helena was stunned. "What’s gotten into you?"

"You answer me first."

"Fine. I really don’t know. But what I can say is that if you could give me enough sense of security, I will share everything with you. That wouldn’t change for now, tomorrow, next week, month, year, decade or even a century. So, if you want me to share everything with you, it depends on your attitude.

"For now, I don’t trust my father. If I were my mother, I wouldn’t share my deepest secret with my father either. So, I am not going to confront him head-on until I have concrete proof that he could be trusted about this issue." Helena had an outburst all of a sudden.

This time, it was Vernon’s turn to be stunned. There were various reasons for his reaction.

There were two parts in her outburst, and both the parts stunned him to speechlessness.

The first part was about their future. He seemed to have already guessed such an answer in the past couple of days. But listening directly to her somehow opened his eyes clearer and wider.

After listening to the second part, he completely forgot about the first part.

"You don’t trust your father? But why? What did father do?" Vernon frowned and asked her.

"Why do you care? Anyway, I don’t completely trust him yet. I have my reasons. Now just look at this box and think of a way to deal with it if you want to help me," Helena looked like she had swallowed a bunch of firecrackers at how she was exploding at him.

Vernon gulped his saliva and even took a step away from her to maintain a safe distance from danger.

"Umm, yeah, I will see what I can do," With trembling hands, he took the box from her hands and ’inspected’ it from all directions while keeping a watch on her mood from the corner of his eyes.

He was scared of his wife, alright?

As he was trembling in front of her, Helena took a few deep breaths and calmed herself down.

It is not that she was angry at Vernon. It was that she was angry about comparing her father to him.

She was still angry at Father Ford while she had no complaints about Vernon whatsoever. Under such circumstances, how could she accept Vernon trying to compare himself to Father Ford?

[Vernon is innocent. I shouldn’t have burst out at him like that. This poor man looks scared of me now. Oh God! What should I do? Will this cause another rift between us? I couldn’t even get closer to him since whatever our first rift was, and now I did this again? You silly Helena! You should have taken care of your stupid mouth. Now suffer! You deserve it.]

Vernon wanted to laugh out loud when he heard her inner voice. He pursed his lips to stop laughing.

From the corner of his eyes, he even saw her secretly slapping her own mouth as a punishment.

But her thoughts reminded him of Vincent’s words. He said that he was sure Helena had been trying her best to make this marriage work between them both. Now it was his turn to do the same.

Her thoughts now only acted as proof that his brother was once again right about Helena.

"Did you calm down?" He asked her in a soft voice.

Helena raised her head in surprise to look at him. "Y-yes. I am sorry."

Vernon smiled and shook his head, "What are you sorry for? Which wife in this world wouldn’t shout at their husbands because of their anger on others?"

Helena blinked her eyes. [Am I hearing this right? Did he just say that we are husband and wife and I can scold him like any other wife just like that?]

Vernon tilted his head to the side. Is it weird of him to say that? Hadn’t they always been arguing at every chance they got for years? Why was she surprised at his words right now? He did not understand.

But he saw Helena smiling at him like a little girl who got her favorite candy.

He cleared his throat, "Ehem. Let’s take this box with us and deal with it later. I don’t think we can find its key now anyway. Let’s try other ways."

Helena nodded, "Okay. Let’s go."

"Where are you going?" Father Ford asked Helena and Vernon when he saw the couple coming downstairs and looking like they were going out.

Helena and Vernon looked at each other. Vernon somehow got the hint that his wife doesn’t want to talk to his father-in-law.

As a good son-in-law, he answered, "Father, I think it is time for us to go now. We were just coming to greet you before leaving."

"What? You are going already? Why don’t you stay a little longer? You can stay the night as well, right? I have already made the servants clean Helena’s room before your arrival," Father Ford looked at his daughter hesitantly and full of expectations.

He wanted to use this opportunity to make amends to his daughter. He had yet to clearly apologize to her and get his previous daughter back. Before he could do anything, how could his daughter leave just like that?

[Hmph! If you want to apologize, I have to give you the chance? Dream on!] Helena scoffed in her heart and turned her face away from him.

Vernon blinked his eyes. He was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

On one hand was his wife and on the other hand was his father-in-law. He doesn’t want to offend either of them, alright?

He looked at his wife. She glared at him and firmly shook her head while mouthing, "No."

Vernon gulped.

He steeled himself and turned to his father-in-law, "Ehehe. I am sorry, father."
