Awakening of the Scheming Wife -
Chapter 30: Joking? No!
Chapter 30: Joking? No!
"Maybe he talked to his friends. I think they would know something?" Vincent suggested.
He was worried that Vernon wouldn’t share his thoughts with him as well. So, he thought that maybe he should check with his friends first. If he knew what was troubling Vernon, he could find the appropriate solution to the problem.
Helena sighed in disappointment and shook her head, "No, Brother Vincent. That is the problem. He did not talk to his friends either. I just met with Tristan earlier. I had the same idea as you. But from Tristan’s words, I could see that he was telling the truth. Vernon did not tell him anything."
Vincent frowned hard when he heard her words.
If she said that she was sure, he trusted that Tristan really didn’t know anything.
Vernon is a friendly butterfly in the social circle. He had many friends.
But as his closest friends, he only had two: Theo and Tristan.
So if Tristan didn’t know anything, it was clear that Vernon did not share anything with his friends either.
Helena turned to look at Vernon, who was smiling brightly as he was saying something cheerfully with Jemma. He wouldn’t let her move around freely. He was acting like a fly around her ears.
She couldn’t help but recall his face when he was frozen in the car. He wouldn’t even move his fingers. She had to pry open his fingers to get the phone out of his hand. No matter how much she rubbed his palms, they wouldn’t get warmer.
She sighed and looked back at Vincent, "Brother Vincent. Actually, if he doesn’t want to tell me, let him be. You don’t have to tell me either. But still speak to him. Let him share his feelings with you. If this continues, I am scared..." She stopped, took a deep breath and continued, "I am scared for him. He wouldn’t talk to anyone. He kept everything inside. If what happened to him today would recur, I wouldn’t be able to take it.
"Just let him share his pain with someone, okay? Of course, I hope it was you compared to any outsiders. I would feel better that way."
Vincent pursed his lips. He felt bad for Helena.
She was such a cheerful little girl just a few days ago.
Suddenly, she lost her mother, and she lost all her spirit. She tried her best to show her strong side in front of everyone, but he saw through her very clearly.
Then she was ’forced’ to get married before she could even come out of that grief.
She still went along with a brave front.
Yet, during her wedding, his stupid brother had to play a ’prank’ on her.
Unlike everyone else, Helena and Vincent knew that it wasn’t a prank but a plan to escape the wedding.
Even after all that, Helena was worried about Vernon. She was worried that he was bottling everything inside him and struggling all by himself.
She had to suffer from his ’gaze’ and yet had to care for him.
Vincent couldn’t help but pity her life.
He very badly wanted to go and punch his brother in his face.
But recalling that he just came back from the hospital, he had no choice but to stop himself.
He could only pat Helena’s shoulder once again, "Helena, don’t feel sad. Everything will pass, and your happy days are just a few days ahead.
"I think that Vernon missed his rebellious phase during his teenage years and wanted to go through it once again. Once he is out of that phase, he will be back to normal. Then you can twist his ears as you wish and punish him however you want."
Helena widened her eyes and looked at Vincent in shock.
"What happened?" Vincent asked.
"Brother Vincent? Is that you?" Helena asked as he raised her hand to touch his face to check if it was really Vincent.
Vincent did not let her touch his face and bent backwards.
Helena sighed in relief, "It really is you. I can’t believe Brother Vincent could joke as well."
"You think I am joking? I am dead serious," Vincent looked at her seriously and said. But the slight glint in the depth of his eyes wasn’t hidden from Helena’s sharp eyes.
She laughed out loud. Vincent smiled. The little girl finally laughed.
He raised his hand and gently caressed the top of her head, "You should always laugh like that. Don’t worry about Vernon. He had gone crazy, yes. But he will get better in a few days at most.
"Also, Vernon told me about your mother’s matter as well. Don’t worry too much about it. I will take care of it as well. I know that you stopped working for a few days for your wedding. So, stop worrying about everything and just relax during these few free days."
Helena smiled. She understood his concerns for her and nodded, "Thank you, Brother Vincent. I don’t know about Vernon as a husband, but having you as my family is the best thing that has happened to me through this wedding."
She joked and even smiled cheekily at him. In front of her family elders and Vincent, she would always show her childish side. In this matter, she was somewhat similar to Vernon.
Vincent internally sighed in relief. If she could still joke around, she was definitely fine.
"Helena, come here. You will be bored talking to Vincent for too long. Take Vernon away from me, or my ears will fall off. Help me, will you?" They heard Jemma’s playful voice and looked over.
She was clearly joking. Otherwise, would she feel that Vernon was annoying? The both of them could talk on and on for days, and they would still not be bored. They could just gossip about anything and anyone together.
On the other hand, Vincent and Helena never understand how they could find so many topics to gossip about. They looked at each other and smiled helplessly.
