Awakening of the Scheming Wife -
Chapter 31: Jealousy? No!
Chapter 31: Jealousy? No!
They looked at each other and smiled helplessly. She even had the audacity to tell her that she would be bored with Vincent?
Vincent immediately glared at her and asked her, "You think I am boring?"
If it was anyone else, they would have been scared by him and shaken their heads.
But it was Jemma who was facing Vincent. If she wouldn’t dare, who could?
She boldly placed her hands over her hips and declared, "Yes."
Vincent narrowed his eyes.
Vernon inched towards her and softly whispered, "Sister-in-law, I think that you are waking up the sleeping lion. Be careful."
Jemma looked at both the brothers and blinked her eyes. She then removed her hands from her hips and meekly said, "You are not boring."
Vincent raised an eyebrow. The sly glint in his eyes couldn’t be hidden as he gave her a look.
Jemma took a step backwards. She seemed to understand what she would face when she went back home. She was scared, alright?
Vernon and Helena snickered from the sidelines, looking at this couple. They were having good fun watching them.
The ’older’ couple looked at the ’younger’ couple and glared at them.
In unison, Vincent twisted Helena’s ear, and Jemma twisted Vernon’s.
"Ahh!" Both of them screamed at once in exaggeration.
If someone heard their screams, they would think that someone was beating them into a pulp.
"You both drama queens," Jemma scolded them, and they took their hands away from their ears.
"Okay, Vernon, go to your room and take some rest. We didn’t have our lunch yet. I will prepare something here for us," Jemma ordered her young brother-in-law and went directly into the kitchen.
"I will help you, Sister Jemma," saying that, Helena followed behind her like a little tail.
She then gave Vincent a look. It meant this was the chance for him to talk to Vernon in private.
Vincent nodded and took Vernon to his room.
"You want to talk to me, Brother?" Vernon could see Vincent’s intentions and directly asked him.
"Yes. Good that you know. But take a seat first. Your rest is more important," Vincent let his younger brother sit on the bed and covered his legs with the duvet.
"So? What exactly happened?" Vincent asked as he sat on the chair after dragging it to sit beside the bed.
"Nothing?" Vernon replied in a soft voice, which sounded more like a question than an answer.
"Nothing? Nothing happened, and yet you got such a huge shock that you froze like that? Do you know how scared Helena was? She had been crying nonstop. She was worried and scared for you," Vincent frowned.
Since his younger brother’s wedding, Vincent had to talk more than his usual self.
He was exhausted as well.
"She cried? For me?" Vernon asked tentatively.
He looked like he couldn’t believe that. He had expected that when he saw her red eyes, but getting the confirmation was a completely different feeling for him. He doesn’t know if he could believe that or not.
Vincent frowned, "Why do you look so shocked? Don’t you know if Helena is really worried about you or not?"
Vernon pursed his lips. He then looked at his brother and shook his head firmly.
Vincent was stunned, "What do you mean?"
Vernon stated, "I really don’t know."
"What? Vernon, what is going on? Why are you talking like that? You have known Helena for so many years. You still don’t know if she really cared about you? How can you say something so insensitive like that? What exactly happened to you? First you did such a big thing at the wedding. Now, you are saying such words. I can’t understand you anymore," Vincent said.
Vernon pursed his lips. He did not say anything. There is no way he could say anything about his rebirth and stuff, right?
Vincent stayed silent for a long time, giving Vernon a chance to calm down and speak.
But no matter how long he waited, Vernon did not open his lips at all. It was clear that he wouldn’t say a word.
Vincent sighed, "Vernon."
He really did not know what to tell him anymore.
"At least can you tell me, what happened to you earlier? What was so shocking that you found that you had to freeze like that?" Vincent asked.
Vernon pursed his lips.
"You can’t not answer anything, right? You have to answer at least one of all the questions I asked. Vernon, this isn’t how you were raised."
Vernon blinked his eyes. Why was he shocked? it was because... "Because you know Helena better than me."
"What? What did you just say?" Vincent could not hear what he said as his voice was too low.
"I said... it was because you know Helena better than me," Vernon repeated. He did not try to escape anymore and faced his brother.
"Huh? What?" This time, Vincent heard his words, but he did not understand them.
Vernon took a deep breath and said slowly, "I didn’t know before that Helena was worried about sharing her problems with our family. When I told you about her matter, I did not tell you anything, and yet you told her to treat us as her family. It was clear that you understood her intentions. And yet, I did not."
Vincent blinked his eyes. What nonsense was his brother saying? He did not understand. He deadpanned and asked, "Are you jealous? Of me?"
He couldn’t believe that at all.
Vernon looked shocked as he immediately shook his head, "No. Brother, I was never jealous. It is not about jealousy. It is about me as Helena’s husband. I am her husband. Shouldn’t I understand her the most? But I did not. I feel that... I don’t deserve to be her husband. I couldn’t even understand something about that even you understood. How could I say that I am her husband?"
Vincent once again blinked his eyes. He seemed to slowly understand what his brother was saying.
