Awakening of the Scheming Wife
Chapter 29: Imposter? No!

Chapter 29: Imposter? No!

"What do you think happened to Vernon?" Jemma asked Vincent while they were alone in the car.

Vincent shook his head.

"He was with Helena when that happened, right? Does she know what happened?" Jemma asked again.

Vincent once again shook his head.

Jemma clicked her tongue.

Vincent looked at her and knew that she was angry at him for not speaking.

He sighed and replied, "I was on the call with Vernon. We were just talking normally, and he suddenly went into that shock. Nothing shock worthy happened. So I really don’t know what happened to him. Helena was with him but she was sitting beside him in the car while he was talking to me. So, she knows as much as I do. We really don’t know what happened to him."

Jemma’s lips twitched, "Did I say that you were lying?"

"Yeah, yeah. You didn’t say that I am lying. But you were definitely thinking that I am not sharing the details with you," Vincent exposed her without any reservations.

Jemma glared at him and slapped his arm.

She wanted to punch him again but Vincent caught her hand and smiled, "Okay, stop it. You can beat me all you want once we are home. I am driving now. So, let’s be careful, okay?"

Helena wriggled her arm out of his grip and turned her head away from him.

Who wants to beat him once they are home? Does she look sadistic to him?

Vincent chuckled, looking at the back of her head.

They reached Vernon and Helena’s home.

Vincent went forward to help Vernon out of the car, which was just parked right before them.

"..." Vernon looked at his brother’s outstretched hand and felt speechless. "Brother, I am really fine. I am not a patient. I can walk on my own."

Jemma pulled Vincent back and let Vernon get out of the car by himself.

Vernon got out and gave his sister-in-law a look of gratitude. "Sister-in-law, you are the only one who understands me." He whined like a baby to her.

Jemma was already used to his childish antics and casually patted his head, "Yes, yes. Now, let’s go inside. You still have to eat something and should take the medicine the doctor gave."

"Sister-in-law, I already ate," Vernon said. Helena and he came back from the restaurant after all. How could he not eat? He ate with his friends.

"Oh. That’s good. Then you can directly take the medicine." Jemma smiled and pulled him inside the house.

Once inside, Jemma got a bottle of water from the kitchen and gave it to Vernon. She did not let him delay even for a second and made him take the medicine immediately.

Vernon never dared to defy his sister-in-law. So he obediently took the medicine and blinked his eyes at her, like a child expecting praise from the elders.

Jemma’s lips twitched. Now that he had taken the medicine, she simply ignored him.

All this while, Helena stood at the side silently. She did not speak a single word since being in the hospital.

Vincent looked at her and she understood. She nodded.

They both went to the dining room and talked softly.

"Do you have any idea about what triggered him?" Vincent asked.

Helena shook her head, "Brother Vincent, I really couldn’t understand Vernon anymore. Since the wedding, he has been different. Very different. He is not like the Vernon I knew before. I once even suspected someone kidnapped Vernon and replaced him. But look at him."

They turned to look at Vernon. He was wheedling in front of Jemma like a child.

Their lips twitched.

But they also knew that that was how Vernon had always been. There is no one who could do that other than him in front of his sister-in-law. In front of his mother? Sure. But who would do that to their sister-in-law?

Obviously no one but Vernon.

Vincent understood what Helena meant and nodded while sighing, "You are right. Only Vernon could be that silly."

Helena pursed her lips and nodded. She looked no less than a child Vernon was.

Vincent wanted to facepalm. They are made for each other, alright?

But when he looked at Vernon and then at Helena, he felt that Helena was definitely better than his brother.

Helena did not know what he was thinking. She just pouted and looked at him, "Brother Vincent, can you talk to Vernon? He isn’t sharing much with me. He somehow started to treat me as a stranger or a villain in his life. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought that I had destroyed his entire family for him to look at me like that.

"Can you please talk to him and ask him what he was thinking? What exactly is going on with him? If I had done something wrong to him, at least I should know what I did, right?"

Vernon thought that he had been hiding his feelings all this while. But for Helena, he was as clear as an open book. Even though she did not understand the reason behind his actions, she was at least sure about the gaze with which he was looking at her.

How could she not understand that gaze?

It is just that she wouldn’t understand the reason behind that gaze.

Vincent frowned when he heard her words.

He wanted to say that maybe she was overthinking things. But when he recalled the stunt Vernon had pulled at their wedding, he did not have the confidence anymore.

He gently patted her shoulder and nodded, "Don’t worry. I will have a chat with him. But don’t think too much. You know him as well. I am sure the reason behind his actions would be something silly. Once we have a good talk, I am sure he will get back to normal."

Helena nodded, "I sure hope so, Brother Vincent."

"Maybe he talked to his friends. I think they would know something?" Vincent suggested.
