Chapter 26: Authority? No!

"Searching for hospitals? Was she ill before? Do you know anything about that?" Vernon asked her with his brows knitted.

Helena shook her head, "No. She is not. I got all my mother’s recent health reports and confirmed it. So there is nothing wrong with her health."

Vernon nodded. "If it’s not her, then someone else she knows was sick? Do you know anyone who is close to her but has been away?"

If it was someone Helena knew, then if that person was sick, she would find it around the same time as her mother.

Also, Helena’s mother wouldn’t have to search through the hospitals for that person.

So it should be someone who was away, and Helena’s mom recently found out about that person’s condition through other channels and started searching for that person.

Helena sighed and shook her head, "I thought the same as well. I looked through all our relatives’ names and even her previous classmates to see if there was anything wrong with any of them. But nothing. I am also at my wit’s end right now."

Vernon frowned. He slowly raised his hand and placed it on her hand. He gently patted her as he tried to console her, "It’s okay. Everything will be alright. We will find what or who she was searching for. I will help as well. Don’t stress yourself too much about this matter."

Helena smiled weakly at him. "I know what you are saying. If she was just searching for someone, I wouldn’t be in a hurry either. But what if..." She sighed and brought some strength to herself before continuing, "What if that person was in some serious condition and my mom was trying to help that person get treatment? If I am late and something were to happen to that person..."

She did not finish her sentence. But both of them knew what she intended to say.

Vernon frowned. Yes, she was right. Since her mother was searching for that person in hospitals, that person should be ill. What if they found that person too late and it wouldn’t be possible to help with the treatment?

Vernon couldn’t imagine the outcome at all. It was Helena’s mother’s last wish after all.

He nodded, "I understand. I will get my brother’s help. It would be way faster than us both combined."

Helena blinked her eyes, "Would it be appropriate? Dragging your family members to get things done for my sake. I just got married, and if others find out I am already using you for my purposes, it would be very bad, right?"

They had married a day before, and the new bride had already started to use her authority as the daughter-in-law.

Everyone knows how that would be perceived by others if they found out.

Vernon blinked his eyes. He did not think too much when he heard Helena’s problem.

Since his wife had to deal with something, he had to help her. If he had trouble, he would go to his brother. Isn’t this normal?

Isn’t this how it should be?

He thought it was very normal.

But after listening to Helena’s words, he suddenly felt it wrong. Is this how much she had to think before she acted when she was with him?

She could easily get her things done if she asks for his help. But she doesn’t want others to think she is using her ’authority’, and hence, she has to stop herself.

This time, he found that she was searching for something and took the initiative to ask her to find what she was doing.

If he had not asked, she wouldn’t have told him anything. He understood that.

So, what happened in his previous life?

He clearly had not noticed anything wrong with her and did not ask her anything.

She clearly did not tell him anything and had done everything on her own.

Everything had been done one in his life one but he had never noticed anything. Now even if he wanted to use the knowledge of his previous life to help her, he couldn’t.

Was it because she was a bad wife who wouldn’t share her issues with him?

No.

It was because he was a bad husband, who did not give her enough security to be able to share her issues with him.

He pursed his lips. He was frustrated. But he did not know what to do to relieve himself from that frustration.

It is not like he could fight Helena, right?

No matter what, he was never a person who would lay a hand on a woman.

All the more so when it wasn’t even her fault to begin with.

He sighed and looked at her, "Don’t think too much. Let’s talk about that after fulfilling mother-in-law’s last wish."

After saying his words, he did not let Helena interject him and took his phone out. He dialed Vincent’s number. "Brother, I need your help. It would be better if the word doesn’t leak outside."

"What is it?" Vincent did not ask him any details and asked about the matter directly.

Vernon explained everything and he heard Vincent’s reply, "Okay. wait for my reply. Tell Helena not to worry too much. Since she had married into our Jeffery’s family, she is our family member. She doesn’t have to treat herself as an outsider."

Even though Vernon did not explain Helena’s concerns, Vincent understood easily.
