The friend was dumbfounded by everything he had heard.

If his friend had not told him the story of how Vernon had pranked him, he wouldn’t have believed that Vernon had played a prank on Helena during their wedding day either.

While they were in the car, returning to their home, their phones were dinging with notifications. When they looked at their screens, they found that the matter was resolved and felt speechless.

They looked at each other and smiled helplessly.

This was the first time they smiled at each other since their wedding.

Before the wedding, they had been smiling like that all their lives. But once they were married, it was like the laughs and smiles had boycotted their house.

Vernon looked at Helena’s smile and froze.

For Helena, he had not seen Vernon’s smile for just two days at most.

But for Vernon, that wasn’t the case. He had not seen Helena’s smile for more than five years.

Even if she smiled in front of him, that smile never had the warmth that the smile in front of him right now had.

He did not realize this fact until now.

In his previous life, he thought that Helena had been smiling in front of him all his life. So, that would mean he took great care of his wife.

But when he saw her smiling right now, he realized that there was a spark in her eyes, which had been missing during their married life.

While he was thinking, he subconsciously stopped smiling and looked deeply into her eyes.

Helena saw the change in his expression and frowned softly. [What is he thinking? Why did he stop smiling? What exactly happened to him? What went wrong with him all of a sudden? Should I ask him?

I want to ask him. But will he answer? If it was the Vernon from the past, he would always speak directly to my face. I always felt free when I was with him. I don’t have to think about what he was thinking.

But this new Vernon was different. He is doing many things the previous Vernon wouldn’t even think of doing. And he wouldn’t speak his thoughts to anyone either.

Vernon blinked his eyes. Why did he feel warm in his heart when he heard her thoughts?

She just said that she would take care of him. Did she really think that? Or was he just hallucinating?

She also thought that she liked him? She liked how pure he was? She wanted him to stay pure forever?

Why? Is it because she genuinely cared for him? Or is it because if he stayed pure, she could manipulate him and scheme against his family like she did the last time?

From her inner thoughts, it looked like the first reason was correct.

He saw her take her phone out and send a message to someone. He did not know whom she was talking to, but he knew that she was looking for the ’villain’ around him, who was trying to ’taint’ him.

His lips twitched at this. But he did not stop her. There was no one around him to ’corrupt’ him anyway. So, whom would she find even if she searched?

He heard her phone ring.

Helena looked at him from the corner of his eyes. He pretended not to notice her action and looked through his phone calmly.

Helena placed her phone at the other side of her ear from him and softly answered, "Hello? Any news?"

(News? What news? Didn’t she ask that person to find just a second ago? How could that person find ’news’ immediately? There is no way, right?)

His ears perked up as he listened to her words keenly. He couldn’t hear what the other person was saying, but he heard her reply, "Oh. It’s okay. Continue searching. I should find the details of that journey as soon as possible. I am sure she left some clues. I don’t want to miss out on anything."

Vernon did not understand what she was talking about, but he was sure about one thing. That it had nothing to do with him.

(Who is the ’she’ she was talking about? What journey? What was she searching for? I did not know she had been searching for something in our previous life. What changed now?)

Once she had hung up on the phone, he asked her directly.
