Awakening of the Scheming Wife
Chapter 19: Best friend? Not sure!

Chapter 19: Best friend? Not sure!

When Vernon heard Helena defending him strongly against Tristan, he had a mixed feeling in his heart.

He understood just then how much Helena had trusted him. He was happy.

But he knew that he did not stand by her confidence. He felt guilty.

In his last life, she did not trust him as much anymore. He did not understand the reason. He was confused about what changed in her so much.

But when he recalled how she had treated him at the end of his previous life, he was furious.

With so many emotions, his entire body trembled.

"Vernon, are you okay?" Theo placed a hand on his shoulder and asked in concern.

Vernon looked at him and after a few seconds of processing what was happening, he nodded, "Yeah."

Theo did not ask anymore.

Despite many emotions and thoughts, the idea of Helena leaving the place alone made him feel bad for her.

He stood up from his seat and said to Theo, "I will go to her. Let’s meet again later."

Theo smiled and nodded. He felt that his unruly friend finally got some brain and started to act in a mature way.

On the other side, Tristan couldn’t bear seeing Helena leave like that and called out to her once again, "Helena."

Helena stopped and looked at him.

"I will take you to your car. let me accompany you until there at least," Tristan smiled and offered.

Helena wanted to reject but she stopped when the words were at the top of her tongue.

Tristan looked genuinely concerned for her. She couldn’t reject him twice after throwing accusations at him just a moment ago. So, she smiled back and nodded.

She smiled, but her smile only looked more sad when Tristan looked at her.

He did not say another word and took her out.

As they were walking, they heard a voice, "Helena?"

They stopped and looked at the woman who called. "Grace?"

"That’s really you. I thought it was someone else for a second when I looked at your back." Grace walked towards them with a smile.

She then looked at Tristan and smiled, "Hey, Tristan. I didn’t recognize you earlier. I just felt that you didn’t look like Vernon and that was why I doubted if she was Helena for a second."

Tristan couldn’t help but frown. He never liked this woman who always said she was Helena’s best friend.

Her words sounded very normal but on a closer look, they sounded like Helena should be with her husband and not with him. It almost sounded like they were having a secret meeting behind Vernon.

Helena smiled normally and replied, "Oh, I came here for lunch and met Tristan by chance. So we shared the meal. What are you doing here anyway? Didn’t you say you were going out with your mom?"

Tristan sighed in relief. Helena really knew how to talk. She would never keep herself in a low position in front of others.

Grace smiled as if nothing happened in their conversation and replied, "Yes. We were about to leave when my mother got an important call and she had to leave for work. So, I was left alone and came here."

"Oh. Do you have any appointments later? Or are you free?" Helena asked her.

Grace was her best friend after all. Since the latter said she was left alone by her mother, she thought it would be good to spend some time together. That way she would spend some time with her good friend and also could clear her mind from her disturbing thoughts.

Grace shook her head, "I won’t disturb you. Looks like you are going somewhere with Tristan. How can I spoil your time?"

Helena frowned when she heard her words. "What are you talking about? Why do your words sound so weird?"

"Huh? Did I say something wrong?" Grace asked in confusion.

Tristan wanted to punch her in the face but he did not because she was a woman. He really couldn’t understand Helena. On one hand, she is very smart, and yet on the other hand she had such a bitch as her best friend.

He knows that Helena never doubted Grace. She genuinely treated Grace as her best friend.

Even now, she did not realize that Grace was speaking those double-meaning words on purpose. She thought she was just a silly woman who did not know how to talk and started lecturing her, "Oh Grace. You shouldn’t say such words. Since it was just us three nothing happened. But if you say such words in front of outsiders, it would sound like you are accusing me of having an affair with Tristan."

"What? Helena, I did not mean that." Grace looked shocked as she placed her hand over her lips and eyes wide.

"Then what did you mean?" A male voice spoke suddenly and everyone turned around to see Vernon walking towards them.

"Vernon. I didn’t know you were here as well," Grace acted like nothing happened and she smiled normally while greeting him.

Vernon did not listen to their entire conversation. He just heard a few words Helena spoke and understood that something happened there. Since Grace smiled normally, he felt that whatever went wrong wasn’t a big issue and did not mind much.

He smiled back and greeted her politely, "Sister-in-law."

The three people around him looked at him in shock as soon as he said those words.

He blinked and looked at them and asked, "What happened? Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Vernon. Have you gone crazy? Why did you call Grace your sister-in-law?" It was Tristan who asked his friend.

Vernon did not realize his mistake. He blinked his eyes in confusion. But suddenly something seemed to hit him and his eyes widened in shock.

Yes, Grace isn’t his sister-in-law yet. She was nothing but Helena’s best friend right now. He had completely forgotten about the timeline and his tongue just slipped casually.
