Chapter 102: Scold? Yes! 3
"She is also someone’s wife and someone’s daughter-in-law. She had more responsibilities than she usually had before. She had to take care of not just the Ford’s reputation but also the Jeffery’s. If you insult her in front of everyone in the Jeffery’s place, where do you think she would put her face? Thankfully, she is a smart lady. If she isn’t smart, not just her but even you would have lost your face in front of everyone. She acted according to the situation and salvaged everything. Look at her and then look at yourself. I don’t know when you will mature."
Faye sighed. She took a deep breath before speaking. "About earlier. I accept. I am wrong. I said the wrong words. I realized that a second later. I was about to apologize to her when Grace got involved. She made me look like a bully and an arrogant person out of nowhere. In fact, Helena understood that I was about to apologize as well. Even if I did not, she would have just scolded me.
"I never cared about how Helena scolded me. After all, like I just said, that was how we have always been. But before Helena could scold me, Grace stepped in. That fake woman turned everything into something weird using just a few twisted words. That was why Helena and I had to get together and act against Grace.
"I am not trying to justify my actions, but mother, can you understand what I was saying?" Faye took a deep breath.
She no longer knows what she was talking about or what her mother was scolding her about. She just brought up everything she wanted to talk about and explained.
Madam Morris looked at her daughter and sighed.
No one talked a word for a while.
Minister Morris coughed, nudging his wife with his elbow.
Madam Morris understood what he meant and spoke, "Faye. I understand the relationship between you and Helena has been like that for so many years. Even though I don’t understand why you two children behave like that, since I had seen you for so many years, I am used to it.
"But honey, just because we are used to it, does that mean it was right?"
She waited for Faye to think about her question for a few seconds.
"When you two were kids, it is cute seeing you two quibbling with words. But now you two are older. I see that Helena stopped provoking you like she did when she was little. She started behaving maturely. She only talks back to you when you start something.
"If she can try and become mature, why couldn’t you? Are you really incapable of changing yourself? I am not asking you two to act friendly, am I? But behaving the way you did earlier and in the previous event is not acceptable.
"You said that if Grace did not get involved, then Helena would have scolded you. But Faye, are you sure she would have really scolded? Even if she did, would she have scolded you the way you talked to her or would she just give you an apt reply to your words?
"You think that you are behaving the same way with Helena as you did before. But I think you should realize that Helena isn’t behaving the same way as before with you. Do you understand what I mean? Think about what I said carefully and you will understand.
"Also, you said that Grace got involved and said some weird things, making you look bad in front of everyone. But I want to ask you, if you did not say those words in the first place, would she even have a chance to do such a thing? In short, it was you who gave her the chance to behave the way she did.
"Think carefully. Grace involved both you and Helena when she trapped with her words in front of everyone. But faye, Helena could have easily escaped the trap. It was because she did not say a wrong word. If Helena wanted, she could have gone along with Grace and made you apologize to her in front of everyone and would simply say that she forgave you. That way, no one would have really criticized her. But what about you? No matter how the issue went, you would be in the losing end. It wasn’t because they were smart. It was because what you did was wrong. If what you did was right, you wouldn’t have to be scared no matter how many traps she laid for you.
"You said that Helena sided with you because of Grace’s words. But I am still saying that Helena helped you and not herself by siding with you. She is being the bigger person by helping you out of a humiliating encounter. She is behaving as the hostess and mistress of the Jeffery’s while you are still being the same immature child of the Morris family.
"Now if you still think there is anything wrong with my words, please tell me."
Madam Morris finished speaking and walked away before taking a seat on a couch present in the room.
Behind her back, Faye was stunned in her place.
Her mother’s words enlightened her. It felt like she just came out of her cocoon and saw the world outside her little bubble.
Her mother was right. Helena has changed long ago. It was just her, who wouldn’t change and even justify her actions by saying that ’they’ couldn’t change just like that. But it was just ’her’ and not ’them’ who couldn’t change.
Faye bit her lips and raised her head to look at her mother, trying to say something. But no words came out.
Her mother looked at her and raised her hand, "You don’t have to tell me anything. As long as you understand, I am good. Anyway, we can talk once we go back home even if you have something to say."
