Chapter 101: Scold? Yes! 2
"Mom. I didn’t mean that," Faye shook her head. She really didn’t mean that. She shook her head profusely, not stopping as sweat formed on her forehead and the back of her neck.
"Oh? You didn’t mean that? Then tell me what you meant. Please enlighten your uneducated mother, who couldn’t even comprehend the meaning of the words that were spoken out loud in front of the public."
Faye just continued shaking her head, not saying a word.
Looking at her like that, Father Morris felt bad. He placed his hand over Madam Morris’ shoulder, "Honey. Her condition doesn’t look good. I think you shouldn’t get so fierce."
"Fierce? Am I fierce? A woman being called a seductress for no reason at all is normal, but me asking her why is being fierce?" Madam Morris asked him.
Even though the question was directed at her husband, her eyes never left her daughter.
It was clear that the question was for Faye and not her father.
Faye stopped shaking her head. She lowered her head this time. She bit her lower lip while tears pooled in her eyes, "I didn’t mean that."
"Faye. Raise your head and look at me."
Faye raised her head and looked at her mother.
"Are you illiterate? Or are you a mentally challenged person who couldn’t form words properly according to your thoughts?" Madam Morris asked.
Faye blinked her eyes. This made the tears flow down her cheeks. She shook her head in reply to her mother’s questions.
"Then why couldn’t you form the words according to your thoughts? How did you say the words that you did not mean?" Madam Morris continued asking.
"Just saying that you didn’t mean it isn’t sufficient. One day, if you murder someone and say that you didn’t mean it, do you think the police would not arrest you?"
"Huh?" Faye was stunned. How did a murder come about in their conversation?
"Honey. Talking about murder is a bit too..." Even Father Morris felt she went too far with her example.
"Bit too what? A bit too exaggerated? Just because she did not use a knife to hurt Helena, does that mean she did not murder? She actually used her words to hurt a woman. How could that be any less of a crime?" Madam Morris did not think that she went too far at all.
"Thankfully, Helena is an arrogant and straightforward girl. She knows how to take a stand and could talk back to Faye. She doesn’t fear Faye’s status and has the power to face her head on. That was why she was fine after listening to her words. But what if the same words were pointed at a weak-willed woman instead? Do you have any idea how a person could be destroyed because of such words? Do you know how many suicides happened in the country just because of these hurtful words?
"If what Faye did to Helena was done to someone else, that person could have broken her soul and committed something that she shouldn’t. Am I really going too far with my words?"
Minister Morris shut his mouth immediately. As a Minister, of course, he knew that what she said was right.
Since he knew Helena, he knew that she would never do such a thing and did not care about the quarrel between his daughter and her.
But now that his wife pointed it out, he suddenly realized that he had undermined the issue a bit too much.
Faye understood what her mother was saying as well.
She took a step forward and grabbed her mother’s hands, "Mother. I was never a bully. Except for Helena, I never said such words to anyone else. I use those words in front of Helena not because I want to hurt her. That just was somehow how we got along for so many years. We always try to hurt each other with our words. That doesn’t mean that we really wanted something to happen to each other. I understand what you are saying. I really do. But not all the relationships should be seen with the same set of eyes, right? How can my relationship with Helena and with others be the same? How could I use the words I used on Helena on anyone else? I don’t even use those on someone like Grace, let alone someone weak.
"There is no way I would bully a weak woman until she takes a drastic step like you fear. I am your daughter. I know what to speak and what not to speak in front of different people.
"I accept that I shouldn’t have said those words to Helena. I am wrong. You can scold me or punish me for my mistake. But please don’t ever blame yourself and say that you did not teach me well. I would never hurt a woman or a man for all it matters for any reason.
"My relationship with Helena has always been an exception. I say a word and she says a word. That’s just how we always have been. Just because she got married doesn’t mean that I am going to change the way I treat her, right? I can’t do that. If you still doubt me, you can ask Helena yourself. The one who hurt her was my dad. Not me."
Minister Morris was called out, and he was stunned for a second. Why is his daughter pulling him again?
Madam Morris narrowed her eyes, "Once is wrong. Then what about the second time? What have you done earlier? That poor Helena. On one hand, she had to suffer your words just because she married Vernon, and on the other hand, she had to play along with you so that you wouldn’t suffer in front of everyone. Now that she is married, I think you should start changing the way you treat her. Now she is not just your classmate. She is also someone’s wife and someone’s daughter-in-law. She had more responsibilities than she usually had before."
