Chapter 100: Scold? Yes! 1
"Enough." Madam Morris shouted. "Are you done? What nonsense are you doing, fighting against a little girl? Aren’t you ashamed? Even if you are not, I am. To say that you are my husband, when Helena talked about how I should put a leash on you and teach you a good lesson, do you know how humiliated I was? I lost face because of you. And yet you want to punish that little girl?
"If you want to punish someone for my sake, then you have to punish yourself first. If not for you, I wouldn’t have suffered any of that."
"I..." Minister Morris wanted to say something, but no words came out of his throat.
"What ’I’? Where did all your words go?" Madam Morris crossed her arms and asked.
Minister Morris coughed and sneakily turned to look at his daughter for help. It all started because of you. You should have helped me instead of going against me.
Faye blinked her eyes innocently. I didn’t do anything.
"Why are you looking at her? Since you did something, you should answer. What use is there in dragging your daughter into your mess?" Madam Morris asked.
Faye immediately nodded her head and even stood behind her mother as if seeking her protection. But her father knows that she is just trying to get on her mother’s good side so that the fire wouldn’t be directed towards her after his turn was over.
"Honey, listen to me, okay. How did I drag our daughter into this mess, huh? If not for her, why would I even have to go against that young lady Ford? Why would I even have any grudge against her?" He softly spoke while slowly taking small steps towards his wife. He held her hand slowly and looked into her eyes with love, trying to melt her heart.
Madam Morris looked at his actions, and her lips twitched. Anyway, she softened her voice and asked, "Didn’t you say that she talked bad about me earlier? Now why did it involve our daughter again?"
She narrowed her eyes and looked at her daughter from the corner of her eye. Faye stiffened when she was pointed at all of a sudden.
The father and daughter duo took turns and explained the situation from the past. Both tried their best to make themselves look innocent, but the other made the matter clear, and somehow the story became crystal clear to Madam Morris.
She took a deep breath. "You both..." She shook her head in exasperation.
She first looked at her husband, "You are an adult. A reputable Minister at that. How could your comprehension skills be even less than a little girl, huh? Look at yourself. And then look at Helena.
"What exactly did she say? Did she really scold me? Or did she just try to make her point? There is a vast difference between the two. Just because my name came up in the topic doesn’t mean that she was scolding me, right? What exactly did she say? She just made me an example to explain a point to your daughter.
"In this state, there are many people who use my name to make an example. Would you go around and punish everyone just because they used my name?"
Once she was done with her husband, she turned towards her daughter.
Her expression became more stern as she faced her daughter. She was stricter with her. "And you," she said.
Faye jolted in her spot in fear. "Mother!" She tried to act cute.
"Shut up." Madam Morris did not give her the chance to sweet-talk at all.
Faye trembled, but she turned obedient at once.
"I think Grace is right. I am not as good as her mother when it came to educating a daughter," Madam Morris’ statement stunned not just Faye but also her father.
"Honey," He called out to her, trying to stop her from saying such degrading words about herself.
Madam Morris just raised her hand at him. She did not turn her head away from her daughter at all.
This moment is for her to teach a lesson to her daughter. She doesn’t want anyone getting involved in the middle.
He immediately closed his mouth and took a step back.
"Mother," Faye was stunned and looked at her mother with tears in her eyes. "How can you compare me to that fake woman? Grace had been trying to be a saint in front of everyone, but I had never seen a woman more fake than her. You always tell me to be real, and that is what I always do. How can you be any inferior to a mother who always taught her daughter to stay fake in front of everyone to gain some gains?"
"Oh? But being real is the only thing I have taught you? Nothing else? What exactly were you trying to prove when you asked Helena such a question, huh? A married woman shouldn’t come out to a banquet? Why exactly is that? Why shouldn’t a married woman attend a birthday banquet of a classmate? Please tell me. I want to know. I mean, I have never seen such a thing in this day and age." Madam Morris crossed her arms and asked her.
Faye shook her head, "I didn’t mean that."
"You didn’t mean that? Then what did you mean?"
Faye shook her head, not saying anything.
"Faye, answer me. I want to understand what exactly you meant when you said those words. I want to understand what my daughter thinks about a woman’s actions in the society. If a woman married a man, it meant that she ’seduced’ him. If she attended a man’s birthday, it meant she wanted to seduce another man. If she attends a banquet in public, it means she is shameless and doesn’t deserve her husband? What else? What more were the rules a married woman had to comply with in this society? Please teach me. I have to follow those rules as well, right?" Madam Morris pointed each and every point Faye had said to Helena and asked.
