Chapter 40: Evolving Part 1.

’Is she even still alive?’ He wondered to himself and started moving her body.

His hand unintentionally brushed against her melons—yeah, totally an accident, not him thinking with his other head.

’So soft...’ He shook his head. ’I mean, this girl is dangerous, so I need to find a way to contain her when she wakes up.’

That was the first thought that crossed his mind. As for the other three, they would be out cold for a while.

But just to be safe, he shot the nurse with a low-dosage dart, then hit the mercenary with a high-dosage one. He really didn’t care if he died

[DING! Bonus Mission Complete]

[Calculating Reward...]

[DING!]

[2X Bronze Box]

The notification was music to his ears, and he hurriedly claimed the reward.

[Agility Increased]

[Intelligence Increased]

[New Skills Acquired]

[Low Presence: Reduces the host’s presence by 20% when activated. If the host successfully blends in with the environment, the reduction increases proportionally.]

[Gun Handling: Increases the host’s mastery over firearms by 40%, depending on their complexity.]

Neo touched the mercenary’s rifle, and information started flooding into his mind.

He felt as if he could now fire it without having to practice, like it was already ingrained in his muscle memory.

’My system is better than I expected,’ he chuckled to himself.

He checked his stats and saw they had increased as well.

His focus then shifted to the naked girl, still lying on the cold floor.

Slowly, he picked her up. She was surprisingly light, which puzzled him

’How could someone like her take out all those people?’

FLAP!

His hand sank into something soft, and he was surprised to realize it was her melons.

’This is not good for my health,’ he muttered, shaking his head.

He summoned every ounce of willpower, even calling upon his ancestors for support, praying that his primal instincts wouldn’t betray him.

And then he started walking until he found another room.

The door was made of metal, with no windows perfect.

All he needed to do was swipe his keycard.

BLIP!

The lock clicked open, but instead of an empty room, he was greeted by two women in hazmat suits, both looking terrified.

"Oh my god, are you from the main lab?" one of them stood up, looking relieved.

"Yes," Neo nodded without hesitation.

"That’s No. 8900. I’m glad you managed to neutralize that goddamn monster," she spat, her eyes filled with disgust.

"Do you have a way to contain her?" Neo asked.

"Why?" She raised an eyebrow. "Aren’t we going to the main lab to transport her?"

"No, the surface is already crawling with zombies, so we need to contain her here and wait for backup,"

He sounded so sure that the two women could only believe him.

"Come with us. We just need to put her in the cryonics chamber," one of them responded.

Neo nodded, and they wasted no time heading deeper until they reached a new room.

The temperature was freezing, and five cryonic chambers stood inside. Four were closed, while one remained open.

He checked the others and discovered they were all empty.

"Just put that thing there so we can start the cryo process," one of them instructed.

She looked visibly disgusted, making it clear she didn’t see the girl as human. That reaction was expected.

Everyone who could endure this place was the worst kind of evil. The urge to kill them rose within him.

[DING!]

[Bonus Mission: Extract information from the two scientists regarding the mysterious girl.]

[Bonus Mission: Kill them.]

A smile curled on his lips upon hearing the mission. The system adapted to his way of thinking.

He decided to follow the instructions for now, fully aware that the girl was still a potential threat. Better to be safe than sorry.

Neo lifted the limp body and placed her on the designated platform.

The scientist adjusted the restraints, securing her wrists and ankles to the cold metal.

With a mechanical hum, the glass cover slowly lowered, sealing her inside.

A faint mist hissed from the sides as the cryo chamber activated.

One of the scientists tapped on a control panel, bringing up biometric readings.

"Vitals are stable. Cryo process will begin in sixty seconds."

The machine whirred to life, releasing another burst of icy mist.

The girl’s breathing slowed, her body reacting to the freezing process.

The lead scientist adjusted a dial. "Dropping temperature now. Full stasis in one minute."

Neo didn’t interfere and let them finish. Once the process was complete, he would make his move.

When it was over, both women sighed in relief. They collapsed into their chairs as if they just prevented the end of the world.

"Is she really that dangerous?" Neo asked, starting his information extraction while taking advantage of the fact that they hadn’t noticed him yet.

The two scientists exchanged glances.

"I’m sorry, but we can’t just tell you classified information, even if you’re from the main sector," one of them said cautiously.

"Really?" Neo raised an eyebrow before revealing his keycard.

Their eyes widened the moment they landed on the print.

"You’re B-Rank personnel?!" One of them gasped, and they both shot up from their chairs.

Neo struggled to hold back his laughter.

On the way here, he saw them use their own keycards—they were only D Rank. Even the two nurses outranked them at C Rank.

He hid his card right away.

"I’m from the main sector and was tasked with figuring out what really happened here. You all know what my identity means, right?"

The two swallowed hard and nodded.

"Good. Now start from the beginning. I want to know how she managed to escape and if this place is connected to the zombie outbreak outside," he demanded.

The two scientists exchanged uneasy glances before one of them hesitantly spoke.

"We don’t know about the outbreak, but we can explain how this thing escaped."

Neo remained silent, waiting for them to continue.

The first scientist took a deep breath.

"She wasn’t supposed to wake up, but her body evolved while on statis state. She overcame the cryo process by rapidly increasing her body temperature."
