Chapter 36: Spot On Part 2.
[DING!]
[Bonus Mission: Follow them to the first part of their destination]
Neo smiled. This was exactly what he needed.
Excitement flickered in his chest. Whatever skill or ability he gained from this could be the edge he needed.
When they slipped into an alley, he didn’t trail them immediately.
Instead, he veered to the side, choosing a different path that led to the same area.
He stayed close to the wall, using the building’s corner as cover.
’I need to be careful,’
Loose debris littered the floor—crushed cans, broken glass, and discarded wrappers. One wrong move, and he’d give himself away.
Neo’s breathing slowed as he stepped around them, keeping his presence as silent as a shadow.
The last thing he needed was to alert his targets before he even figured out what they were up to.
Though the system could make him stronger, its power needed time to develop before reaching its full potential.
He wasn’t like those typical fictional character who relied solely on unexplained abilities.
No, he was a man who relied on logic.
And for this bonus mission, he figured he would gain another skill.
Depending on how he completed it, the system would grant him a corresponding ability.
When he ran for his life, the system gave him a movement skill. When he tortured someone, it assigned him a skill that made him better at it.
So, what should he prioritize now?
’Stealth? Assassination? Melee combat? Guns?’
Neo’s mind raced through the possibilities
Stealth would help him avoid unnecessary fights. Assassination could ensure clean, efficient kills. Melee combat would make him deadlier up close.
And guns... well, firepower was never a bad option, especially against enemies who had no problem shooting first.
Neo exhaled slowly. ’Stealth is the easiest to get now.’
Just as he was lost in thought, the group came to a stop at the backdoor of a one-story building.
Neo snapped back to focus, watching as they glanced around, scanning for anyone who might be following them.
Only when they were sure the area was clear did they slip inside.
’I need to move!’
The second the last man stepped inside; he sprinted forward.
The door was almost shut.
Neo lunged, jamming his foot between the door and the frame just before it could close completely.
Holding his breath, he listened. No alarms, no immediate reaction. They hadn’t noticed.
Carefully, he pressed his palm against the door and peeked inside.
The group was already gone.
They must have moved the moment they secured the area.
’It’s okay. As long as I have the general area, I can track them.’
[DING!]
[Reward: Bronze Box]
The box materialized, and Neo inhaled the gas.

’I knew it,’ he smiled, confirming his hypothesis.
At the same time, he felt his body grow lighter. Now, he just needed to complete more missions to grow stronger.
[DING!]
[Bonus Mission: Follow them to the second part of their destination]
Neo gladly obliged, but since he had lost them, he started checking the floor.
Luckily, tracks from their boots were visible. It also helped that the mercenaries’ shoes had a distinct mark, making it easy for him to follow.
Neo began to move until they led him to a door.
It didn’t look well-secured, and when he grabbed the knob, the door swung open easily, revealing a set of stairs leading down into some kind of basement
The stairs didn’t go straight. Instead, they curved, much like the ones used in tall buildings for fire exits or when the elevator was out of order.
Tight corners made it harder to see what was ahead, but they also provided plenty of hiding spots, allowing him to stay concealed if needed.
As he moved around each turn, he kept his body low, listening for any sounds that might indicate movement.
Reaching another corner, he paused, pressing his back against the wall and peering around the edge.
The dim light from above barely illuminated the path ahead, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
He moved forward until he reached what seemed to be a storage room.
Stacks of crates and metal containers were scattered all over the place, but there were no signs of any people at all.
He searched the room for another door, another way, but found none.
’Did I make a wrong turn?’ he wondered to himself.
’No, that can’t be. There must be a hidden mechanism here somewhere,’ he muttered to himself. He looked around again, eyes scanning every inch of the room.
The walls were lined with crates and containers, tightly packed, leaving no obvious exits.
Then it hit him—maybe the containers were meant to mislead him.
The exit could be hidden behind one of them. He stepped closer to the crates and examined them carefully, looking for any irregularities.
He pressed his hands along the edges, feeling for any give or difference in the surface.
After a few moments, he noticed a faint gap in one of the crates—a small seam that wasn’t quite as tight as the others.
Neo paused, listening carefully. No sound of hollow space from knocking, but something still didn’t sit right.
He crouched, inspecting the floor beneath the crates. A subtle draft touched his skin, almost imperceptible, but enough to catch his attention.
Neo pushed against the container, and it moved slightly, revealing a narrow key slot in the floor.

[Active Skill: Tracking – Grants the ability to easily detect faint traces of movement or disturbances in the environment, such as footprints, scuff marks, and subtle shifts in the air or ground.]
When the skill activated, his eyes briefly glowed gold green.
As he looked around, he noticed that the prints that couldn’t be seen before now glowed faintly.
Even fingerprints and other small details were visible, standing out clearly.
’Nice, now this is handy. I wonder what kind of skill I’ll get with a Silver Box, or even a Gold Box.’
He got excited, seeing that the skills he was gaining were getting better and better.
