"Fuck you!" she spat.
One corner of Archie’s lips pulled up into a smirk, and he took a step closer while answering, "You don’t know how much I’d love that, Ava. But I am holding myself back mainly because it might be your fucking revenge to take but it is also my fucking duty to protect you!"
It would be a lie if Archie said he didn’t know yelling at her would only make her angrier and more aggravated but he still did it anyway. If her symptoms were anything like what the doctors had informed him about few weeks ago, and what Neil told him earlier, then it would be better if he tested the worst level of her insanity. That would determine if he was to let her carry on with this game of revenge or if he was to halt everything all at once.
"By doing that?" Avery pointed at the TV, her vision getting clearer as she spoke, "Is that your way of protecting me, Archie? No! Instead, you just disrupted my plans in so many ways!"
"And that’s totally your fault for not letting me know what those plans were beforehand. Remember?"
In a bid to alleviate the fury coursing through her veins, Avery looked around for anything else to break or throw. Anything at all for her to destroy. Her eyes caught the throw pillows on the sofas but left them almost immediately, those would only make her more angry. Her eyes swept around the room twice and there was basically nothing within arm reach she could destroy except...
Her raging eyes flickered upwards to settle on a particular man’s face. Or rather, the glasses which sat elegantly on his face.
"You won’t break any more objects apart from those you already broke," His cold words slipped out of his lips just at that moment, making Avery almost accuse him of reading her thoughts.
"I can pay for them," she lashed back at him. Though she was still living on his money for now, she was sure she’d be able to pay him back later on.
"I can consider that if you won’t be paying with money but with sexual favors," Archie deadpanned.
Avery’s breath caught in her throat, rendered speechless by that one sentence from him. She was even more shocked when the anger that had previously filled her bloodstream disappeared to be replaced by fear.
"I can’t—"
"Did that sound like I was asking, Sweetie? I’ll take you when I want but for now..." he trailed off, his face assuming a more serious expression. "Let’s keep it at that and return to the topic at hand. You can’t leave the penthouse for another two weeks."
"Another punishment for not telling you I was supposed to see Valentina?" Avery questioned.
"The punishment would be asking you to go out and risk getting mobbed and stoned to death. I don’t have to tell you by who," Archie replied.
’That’s true,’ Avery reasoned in her mind. The public acted before thinking; and she would not be surprised if this gossip news sparked another round of insults for her overnight. And if she stepped out, either to school or anywhere else, wouldn’t that be calling death? She could guarantee she’d be injured by an hysterical fan before anyone decided to remind them the person they were mobbing was an Ava Donovan and not Avery McCAllum.
In short, it would be stupid of her to leave the protection of the penthouse at this critical time.
"But if I just stay home, I am wasting two whole weeks of a year. There’s so much I could do in that time."
Archie nodded in support of her words, eliciting a smile from her. However, the smile disappeared from her lips when she heard his next words.
"One of the things I’d recommend that you do during that time is undergo therapy sessions. The doctor will visit everyday so you don’t have to worry about leaving the house," he said, interrupting her before she could refuse, "You are losing yourself, Ava. You know it even without anyone telling you."
"I...I don’t care," Avery said, her voice low.
"I don’t give a damn either. But what did I tell you about revenge?" he asked. "It is pointless if you end up losing more than you already have, and that includes your health and part of your soul."
Avery brows raised in surprise. Just like the last time, she could glean from Archie’s words that he was familiar with the word ’revenge’. But who would have offended him to the point that he had to take revenge, thereby getting this much knowledge about it?
"It would be much more believable if he’s the one being revenged against," she murmured.
Archie’s voice broke into her thoughts, "One more thing, I got an assistant for you. She only knows you as Ava Donovan so don’t make a slip, and she’ll be contacting you any minute from now."
"Wait...you said i won’t be leaving home for two weeks but even if I would, what would I need an assistant for?"
"Mistake. I didn’t get you an assistant, I got you an agency and one of the perks of that is that you have an assistant."

The days slipped away like grains of sand in an hourglass and in the twinkling of an eye, two weeks had passed with Avery spending each and every passing day alone with Lake and Thorne. Once in a while when she woke up earlier, she got the opportunity to exchange pleasantries and a dialogue or two with Nancy. And on other days, Jodi came to visit her when she had no classes or meetings in her new agency.
It was one of such days, and Jodi had the same opening line she had whenever she saw Avery throughout the past week.
"Jeez! You really do look like the Avery," she said, her voice reflecting the same hint of surprise it had on that night she had called. "I’d have been convinced you were her if I didn’t know you personally. Plus the fact that you have been married to Archie for three years? That alone overrules all doubts."
