Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 63: Tour.
Chapter 63: Tour.
"Sure it does."
Leading the way into the living room, Avery could not help but sigh, preparing herself for the lies that were about to spill out of her mouth.
"Why can’t everyone else just believe that this...what is she called? Avery person is dead and stop pestering me for a resemblance I can’t even see? I can’t just go ahead and scream an announcement ’I’m Ava Donovan and I’ve been married for three years so there’s no way I’m that person you seek’, can I?" she asked rhetorically.
"Of course, you can’t. It’s a good thing Mr James kept your work profile private and didn’t release it to anyone or you’d probably have people throwing stones at the building by now. But trust me, it’s slowly getting into their head that you are not the same person they loathe," Jodi reassured her. A reassurance Avery wasn’t sure she needed.
"I hope so. How’s your day going?" she asked, changing the topic of discussion almost immediately.
"Not great, that’s for sure. Classes have been super exhausting, especially because I applied for a month’s leave starting next week."
"For what— Omg! I forgot shooting is starting next week," Avery exclaimed. As she talked, she picked up her phone from the table and went straight to check her mails."I was asked to stay off all social media or messaging platforms so I missed the reminder email."
Contrary to Archie’s words before he left, the doctor hadn’t visited. Not even once. As for the assistant, the lady only sent Avery a message telling her to create new social media accounts and avoid the accounts after that, until further notice from her. When Avery asked why, the bland reply had been, ’It’s for your mental wellbeing.’
"That’s acceptable," Jodi concurred. "No one would want to read hate comments that aren’t meant for them."
She slumped on the sofa beside Avery, her hand going straight to the back of her head like a pillow.
"Yeah, you were saying something three days ago before I left in a rush," she pointed out.
Avery looked up from her phone for a brief stare at Jodi before returning it, her eyes furrowing in annoyance when she remembered what she wanted to say.
"I was telling you about the new assistant, or should I say manager, that I got. The one that advised me to create social media accounts and forbade me from visiting the apps until the commotion dies down," she said, as the memories of the night from 2 weeks ago rushed into her mind.

"Mistake. I didn’t get you an assistant, I got you an agency and one of the perks of that is that you have an assistant."
"An agency? What kind of agency?" she had asked.
"You mentioned modeling and acting so I went with one that scored high in both sections," he responded blandly. "I just know it’s one of the best in the country. CS Agency, you have heard of them."
"Owned by the Sherman family? No! You didn’t ask them to," Avery muttered in disbelief.
"In fact, I did. And I got drugged in return."
"But I already told you I don’t need your help in this area." She had been agitated, but it didn’t seem like he understood things from her point of view.
"Who says I’m rendering my help? That’s just my protection. And for your information, the agency won’t accept you unless you do a good job on your upcoming project. You have one year to do this, Sweetie, chose wisely, and cut corners if you can."
She had only grown more confused, "If there’s no hundred percent assurance I’d get signed there, why am I getting an assistant now?"
"To help in tackling this problem. It shouldn’t affect your career in future," Archie replied. "Prepare yourself. You’re staying home for two weeks and during that time, the only people you have meetings with your assistant and doctor scheduled. Last but not the least, stay away from my room."
Her lips thinned in displeasure, "First of, I don’t have any reason to go there. Two, you talk like you are traveling or leaving home for a while."
"I am. For three weeks. Don’t kill anyone or yourself. Don’t break the house before I get back. Curb that fucking anger if it surfaces."
The way he fired off the instructions almost made Avery feel like she was back in highschool and talking to an overprotective older brother. Just that Arthur’s voice would never leave a trail of goosebumps on her skin and send a flush of heat down her belly. Not even Brian’s voice had had that much effect on her.
Only Archie’s did.
"Where are you going?" she could remember asking him, a small inkling in her mind that he might be abandoning her now that her secret seemed to be halfway out.
"Out of the country. Solidifying your alibi in case anyone decides to carry out an extra check," he had replied, in a matter of fact tone.
He had walked off after that, Lake and Thorne wagging their tails as they followed after him to wherever their room was. Once again, she had missed the opportunity to ask him where the dogs slept.
Maybe now that she would be idle for the next two weeks, she could take a tour around the penthouse. One that was more thorough than the one Archie had given her when she just came.
The tour had yielded results, more surprising ones than she had expected. She found the rooftop pool, the gym with state-of-the-art equipments, and a much bigger library than Archie’s study.
Now that she thought of it, the library wasn’t surprising consider Archie’s love for books. Who knows what the books were always about?
A deeper tour of the house had resulted in her findings of the den, dogs room, and other guestrooms further down the hallway. Finding out that Archie had left out more than half of the penthouse on the tour he gave her, had been more disheartening than annoying.
"You won’t stay here for much longer anyway," she had reassured herself.
"So what have you been busy with?" Jodi’s voice snapped her out of her reverie.
