Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 53: First Plan.
Chapter 53: First Plan.
’’It went well actually. I managed to find one that’s not in anyway affiliated to A2 Corp, Neil, or any of the others,’’ Jodi replied. ’’It’s the reason I wasn’t able to get an agency earlier than this.’’
Sensing a hint of sadness underlying her tone, Avery asked, ’’Why? You are that averse to taking your boyfriend’s help?’’
’’Neil helping me isn’t the problem here. I guess it has been my wish to detach work completely from relationship and now it turned out successful.’’ Jodi pushed the large swinging doors open and waited for Avery to enter, before stepping in after her.
’’And now that you have an agency, why are you walking with an ordinary wannabe actress like me and not accompanied by your manager and assistants and lest I forget, company car?’’
’’Took this role without them. Gotta see it through without them too," Jodi replied. "And you, why are you here this early?" She had come here as early as she could because Neil left home early and she was not in the mood for classes, therefore she had not expected Ava, or anyone else to have arrived.
"One, I didn’t want to be late," Avery stated, counting her fingers like a kid, "And two, I wanted a chance to reread the script and discuss it with the next earliest person which turns out to be you. Your luck, Miss Jodi." In truth, those were not the only reasons she had arrived earlier but there was no way she was telling Jodi the third one, which was to scare Valentina.
They took their seats on the bench beneath the tree, and as if they had previously planned it, took out the respective script books.
"You didn’t tell me what role you got," Jodi pointed out.
"Almost similar to yours. Your character loves the male lead but will keep her feelings hidden, while my character loves him but won’t keep her feelings hidden. Instead, she’s expected to bully the female lead more than once or twice and end up destroyed by the male lead. I think I can pull it off." Avery had a creepy smile on her face when she concluded her words, at the thought of how easy and exciting it would be to bully Valentina. That was if the latter didn’t go hysterical from seeing someone that resembled her dead ex-cousin, before shooting started at all.
"Even if you can’t, we will practice until you get it," Jodi’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"I would love that," she agreed.
And practice they did, until hours later when the agency opened to visitors and they decided to go in and find the conference hall which was the venue of the script reading.
They were yet to find the conference room when Avery excused herself, "You go ahead, Jodi. I have to visit the restroom real quick."
"Can you find it? What if I come with you?"
"No, you go ahead. With the amount of employees passing by, I can’t lost my way," Avery replied.
"Alright then. I will call when I find the hall," Jodi agreed and walked off.
Avery did a 180° turn and began to walk in the opposite direction from where her friend was headed, her calculative gaze sweeping around the area and reading the signs on every door in sight. Valentina was an artist signed with this agency; surely, she’d have a space assigned to her. A space that would most likely be empty at this time since she was yet to arrive for the script reading event.
Walking down the hallway, she continued to read the signs on each door but her search was futile.
"Where the hell is..." she trailed off, the frustration in her mind dissipating as a thought popped in her head. What if...
She turned, looking around for any elevator in sight. She hopped into the one nearest to her without minding the fact that it was filled with an only-men audience, and that one of the men was someone she had met before.
As soon as the elevator slid open in her destination floor, she stepped out and broke into a sprint in the direction of the dressing room which had been owned by Emma once upon a time. Avery had only been here once and even she regarded it a miracle that she still remembered the location of the room.
She stopped dead in her tracks when she got to the door of the room, raising her head to look at the sign that was placed on the door. Where ’Emma McCAllum’ had once been, ’Valentina McCAllum’ was now there.
Avery’s mouth dropped in astonishment even though she knew it wasn’t supposed to be a surprise. Valentina had taken everything Emma used to own, as it was, it looked only right that she inherited her professional dressing room too.
’You have no time to waste, Avery. The bitch is arriving soon,’ she said in her mind as she pushed open the door to step into the room.
Her eyes travelled around the room in one fell sweep and stopped only when she saw herself in the mirror. Her face, the wicked glint in her used-to-be innocent eyes. She dropped her eyes to the combs and make-up kits that lined the dressing cabinet, and her gaze flickered.
Avery was sure Emma had once used those, but Valentina was the one using them now. The clothes that lined the hangers in the corner, the shoes which lined the rack; they were probably brand dresses Emma had refused to take home.
’But now...’ she halted her thoughts, reminding herself of her mission here as she slipped her bag off her shoulders. Avery unzipped the bag and dipped her hand in to retrieve a sheet of paper, which she placed on the dressing table.
It was a page she had torn out of a magazine that was released a year ago. That particular page featured an article based on the McCAllum sisters, an article that had made waves on the internet at the time.
She read the heading out loud, "McCAllum SISTERS: EMMA and AVERY’S DOMINANCE."
