"You knew you’d be meeting other men but you still dared to dress in that manner?!"

Avery flinched, her mind blanking out at his question. Could that even be regarded as a question when he already knew the answer?

"Answer me, Ava!" he snapped, with a harsh voice. "You suddenly do not know what to say?"

"No," Avery shook her head. "I was just a little bit confused. In the first instance, I had no idea we would be joining...No, Alice only told us her brother and his friends would be present in the last minute and as for the dress I wore, it was a bit provocative yeah, but did it really make you so angry that we have to argue in the middle of the night?"

She didn’t get a reply, at least not a verbal one, but got one from Archie’s eyes which was growing colder by the minute. Feeling his grip loosen on her shoulders as his hand came off, she watched as he took off his glasses to look at her with his bare eyes.

"Have I really been that nice, Ava?" he asked, his tone icier than normal.

"What are you trying to—"

"You are a married woman."

"What does that have to do with—"

"Just answer me with a fucking nod, will you?! You are a married woman and I am your husband."

Avery took a step back from him, nodding her head subconsciously.

"You are... You are my husband and I am a married woman," she repeated.

"Good," he inhaled deeply. "Good that you know, Ava." he added. A smile flitted across his face for a second and disappeared the very next, but Avery was quick to notice it. Just as she wanted to ask what was wrong with him, he beat her to it. "What are you doing down here by this time?"

"I uh... couldn’t sleep," she replied with the first words that came to her mind.

"Do you need a doctor?" He asked next and just like before, he responded to his own question before she could shake her head, "I bet it’s a no. I’ll be in my room if you need anything." With that, he flashed her a ghost of a smile and walked away.

Avery who was left behind was not sure she had ever been in a situation as confusing as this. He walked into the house at 4am and asked her a series of jumbled questions, made her confirm she was a married woman and his wife, and then walked away without answering any of her own questions.

’He must be drunk,’ Avery breathed. It was the only explanation she could come up with on what just transpired. ’He had a drink or two with that woman...’

Few kilometers away from Dove’s luxury building, an almost similar scene was being manifested in the 222nd apartment in the building.

Jodi had her palm wrapped around a large mug of warm milk, lounging on the sofa with a big book lying open on her lap.

"Only an island bum like me would depend so much on reading overnight to get this script in my head," she murmured, turning a page as she took a sip of the milk. If she had known from a young age that acting not only needed her skills but also her memory—if she wanted to be perfect at it, that is—then maybe she would have paid more attention to it at the time.

Hearing the sound of a door opening, she was quick to drop everything she had in hand, including the script as she hurried to stand up from the sofa. As she expected, it was Neil who walked into the living room.

As the latter had not expected her to be awake at this time, he was taken aback when he saw her standing in the living room.

"What are you doing?" he asked, at the same time Jodi asked, "Are you alright now?"

The two stayed still for a few seconds, staring at one another as if each was waiting for the other to answer first.

"Did you stay awake because you were worried about me?" Neil broke the silence.

"Partly because of that," Jodi replied, without mincing words. She added, "And partly because I had to stay up to memorize some lines. How are you feeling?"

"I’ve been alright for a few hours now since I didn’t drink much. Arch gulped his to the very last drop out of habit so I can’t say the same for him. But he has wonderful self control unlike... someone else; we don’t have to worry about him."

"If you are okay, then I shall go back to reading—"

"One minute, Jo," Neil interrupted, taking slow steps to approach her until the sofa was the only obstacle between them, "Did Miss Ava invite you to the night club last night knowing Arch would be there?"

Brows furrowing in confusion as to why she was being asked that, Jodi shook her head. "Not at all. Ava and I were actually shocked to find you and Mr. Donovan in there," she replied, her words coming out slowly as realization dawned on her, "Now that I think about it, Neil, Alice said her brother and his friends would be present and that Ava and I could have ’fun’ with them if we wanted, does that mean you’d have hooked up with a girl if we weren’t there?"

"Right back at you, Jo," Neil fired back,"You and Miss Ava readily attended the damned nightclub without expecting to meet us there; were you planning to have fun with Benedict Sherman?!"

Jodi refused to respond to him, her eyes hardening as she continued to stare at him. She asked first and he intentionally avoided her question; meaning he’d have really settled for one of Alice’s friends.

"What was I expecting?" she spat, before she could herself back, "You couldn’t control yourself in the presence of a mere driver last year, how would you have managed when beautiful models were present?"

She regretted her words the moment they dropped from her mouth.
