Chapter 87: Chapter 86 The burning Mark
"You’re strong, Klaus. But you’re trying to hold fire in a cage made of rules." His voice grew quieter. "And I am not made to obey."
Stefan’s voice echoed through the barrier, grim and awed.
"The winner... Lucian."
The crowd didn’t cheer. They didn’t move.
They stared wide-eyed, hearts thundering at the boy who had just broken Klaus’s law itself.
And Olivia...
Olivia couldn’t look away. Something in her chest twisted, a strange sense of dread and awe clashing inside her. She felt her core responding in a way that frightened her, as if... it was part of him. Her forehead burned with fiery pain. The mark... it was appearing again.
Lucian turned, caught her gaze... and smiled.
But for a moment, just a heartbeat, she swore she saw something ancient flicker in those eyes... like the ones she saw during the essence transfer.
She quickly covered her forehead with her hand, disappearing from the crowd. Her mind was a pure definition of mess. Her gaze turned blurry, her steps were like that of a drunk. She reached out blindly, desperate for something to hold onto.
She wanted to head back to the school, but suddenly a yellow ball of energy was hurled right in her direction. Her dizzy eyes stared at the incoming danger, her body swirled, but she could not move out of the way on time.
Clash.
The blast hurled Olivia into the wall. She weakly shook her head to clear her blurry eyes. Her ears rang in her head, as blood dripped from the corner of her lips.
A female black boot with a dripping chain came into her view. Olivia had no idea who the person was or what she had done to make her come for her.
Before she could fathom the next thing, a hand grabbed her neck and slammed her against the wall. That was when Olivia saw the face of the person.
"Lydia..." Before she could finish her words, a fist connected to her face, causing her head to turn to the other side. She grimaced when her tongue tasted the metallic taste of iron.
"I warned you not to get on my bad side. I told you to stay away from Klaus... but what did you do?" Lydia’s eyes blazed with fury. "You became his girlfriend."
She hit Olivia again. And again. And again.
By the time she let go of her, Olivia slumped to the floor, completely weak and unfocused.
Olivia groaned. The hit was the least of her worries. It didn’t even compare to the pain that was burning through her skull, threatening to liquefy her brain content. She even believed that they might evaporate into gas.
She could not do anything except take her hits with open arms.
Lydia smirked when she saw how weak Olivia was, a devilish plan brewing in her head. "I know exactly what to do with you," she giggled at her brilliant plan.
Olivia’s mouth and face were covered in cuts and blood. The strong smell of iron filled the air. Lydia whistled as she held Olivia’s legs, sweeping her through the dirt towards a place nobody dared to enter.
Olivia tried to fight back when she found herself sweeping through the ground, but the pain shooting from her head stopped her from moving. Her eyes fluttered closed as she welcomed the warmth of darkness.
...
The chirping of the crickets and hooting of the owls slowly echoed in Olivia’s ears. The smell of damp air, greens, and woods invaded her nostrils. Her hand clenched; she could feel the sharp twigs, decaying leaves, and moist soil.
Something was wrong. Shouldn’t she be in her bed? Her eyes snapped open. The dark sky and the bright full moon, whose light filtered through the leaves, came into view.
AAAAAARGH!
A terrifying scream escaped her throat, sending the birds to fly away from their nests. The crickets went silent. Soon, it was only silence that was her companion.
She didn’t know why she had screamed—knowing it was a dumb move—and if there was any monster here, then only God could help her.
But she just wanted to scream, to vent out her anger, her fear, and her injustice. When she tried to stand up, she felt she couldn’t move, like her limbs were tied together.
A yellow bright rope was tying her feet together and her arms together. She pushed herself to sit up, but she fell on her back again. After several tries, she managed to sit upright. Her green eyes scanned her surroundings.
Everywhere was dark except for the moonlight showing some grace to her. When she tried to move her lips, sharp pain emanated through her body, sending shockwaves to her brain.
"That b**tch," she cursed under her breath, anger flooding from her veins to her eyes. She promised to pay back this favour a hundredfold. But that wasn’t the problem now—she could feel a burning gaze piercing through her back.
She turned around. She saw nothing but the leaves dancing to the tone of the winds. There was nothing out of place. She wondered if it was her own imagination.
"Please don’t tell me that I am hallucinating now," she tried to move her hand to see how much space she had in order to free herself. But to her dismay, the more she moved, the tighter it became.
Olivia’s breath became heavy as she gasped for air. Her heart constricted as an overbearing pain filled her chest. Cold beads of sweat began to form on the back of her neck and her face.
She tried her best to remain calm and breathe, but it was not working. Her heart palpitated in her chest.
And as if the situation wasn’t bad enough, a deep growl reverberated through the air, causing a wave that shook the trees and the air itself.
Olivia slowly turned around, her heart pounding in her ears. And there she saw it—the exact monster Klaus had saved her from.
The monster let out a final growl before charging towards her.
