Chapter 88: Chapter 87 Saved Again
Olivia’s eyes widened in horror as she watched the monster charge towards her. Its skin looked like it was covered in black smoke, its green eyes shone with intelligence and hunger.
Olivia’s heart, which had been racing against her chest, stopped. She couldn’t even close her eyes.
If someone was to die in a horrible way, aren’t they granted the gift of unseeing the approaching disaster? But why was this gift taken away from her?
Tears rolled down her cheeks, her eyes reflecting the incoming danger. But just as it was about to attack her, a figure suddenly appeared in front of her. Red flames and green energy collided, illuminating the surroundings.
"Are you okay?" the figure shouted, as he tilted his head slightly towards her.
Olivia was stunned, completely speechless. It took a while for her brain to register his question. She quickly nodded her yes. "Yes," but her voice cracked, barely a whisper.
Her eyes took note of the figure’s features. Silver-white hair, his frame looked exactly like that of Lucian. Her heart skittered in her chest at the thought of him. The look of disappointment and betrayal in his eyes the last time still haunted her.
Lucian drew a rune, embedding it on the ground. Gold glowing chains sprang out of the ground, holding the monster down. The monster struggled to free itself, but the more it struggled, the tighter the chains wrapped around it.
Lucian turned and carried Olivia before fleeing the scene. He knew his rune would not be able to hold the monster for a long time.
The monster moved hysterically as it saw them fleeing away. Even the sizzling of the chain against it did not deter its movement. By the time the chain disappeared, they were already gone. The monster’s eyes lingered in the direction they had disappeared into. An angry roar rumbled from its throat.
...
Lucian gently carried Olivia in his arms as he walked towards her dorm. They both didn’t utter a word. Only a suffocating silence followed after them.
Olivia stared at him now and then; she averted her eyes only when she was almost caught.
"You are still mad at me, aren’t you?" Olivia finally broke the silence.
"No." He curtly replied. His jaw tightened.
"It is not a real relationship. I... I only agreed to be his girlfriend because he has something against me," Olivia rushed to explain. She bit back her tongue when she realised how much information she was spilling out.
Lucian’s cold demeanour cracked before mending again. "I don’t care about your personal life. You don’t need to explain yourself to me," he coldly said. Meanwhile, deep down, his heart was having a little ballad dance. At least he knew the relationship wasn’t real.
Olivia’s eager face deflated like a balloon. He wasn’t even willing to hear her out. How was she supposed to make him understand?
She didn’t know why she was so eager to explain to him. It wasn’t like her. But Lucian always came to her rescue. It’s not wrong for her to trust him.
"Who did this to you?" he asked, his eyes blazing with something she couldn’t quite name.
"Someone that’s going to wish for death," she replied, her voice devoid of emotion. Her fist clenched as her eyes burned with anger.
Lucian didn’t press further. He had his own plan in mind.
They got to the door of her dorm. He gently put her down, cutting off the rope that was binding her. Olivia stumbled as her feet were still shaking from her tremors.
Lucian swiftly caught her in his arms. Her eyes met his, both swirling with unexplainable feelings.
She broke the eye contact, then lightly pushed his chest. "You are strong..." she said, her fingers hesitating against the firmness of his chest.
But Lucian didn’t say anything. Rather, he gave a cold stare that made her heart skip some beats. Should she have been scared of his deadly glare? Yes. But Olivia was blushing under his cold stare.
Her hand gently traced down to his abs. "...very strong," she added, as she stared back at him.
Lucian felt a jolt of electricity running down his spine. The tingle her little hand gave to him made a part of his body twitch. And the way she was staring back at him—the boldness, the audacity—snapped something inside him.
He wanted to kiss her. His hand wanted to explore every inch of her body. He wanted to...
Lucian’s breath hitched. He quickly stopped his trail of thoughts, and shoved her hand away. He gritted his teeth. This wasn’t the right time for this, even though it sounded pleasing. But he knew he couldn’t do anything as long as she was someone else’s.
"Goodnight," he said before walking away as fast as he could, afraid he might turn back and make her writhe under his arm.
Olivia bit her lips but grimaced as the pain from her injury shot through her.
"I didn’t even get to say thank you," she muttered underneath her breath.
It was then it occurred to her about the aura that emanated from Lucian, which led to the pain on her forehead. What connection does her pain have with him? Why does it always occur when she is around him while he is using his powers?
As much as she was feeling drawn to him, she knew deep down that she also needed to be careful around him. There was more to him than meets the eyes.
...
"Oh my God, did you hear the news? Alexa is nothing but a substitute and a whore," one of the students exclaimed.
"I heard she is nothing but a s*x toy to the leader."
"No wonder she rose up the rank quickly, considering the trash she came from."
"I also heard that the leader is looking for a person who has a... what’s it called again... yes, a sacred flame. So they thought she was the one because she is a flame wielder. But when they found out she was not, she became a pet to the leader."
The gossip of the students filled the hallway, spreading like wildfire.
