Chapter 65: Chapter 64 The Worst Way to Ask for Help

[SYSTEM ALERT: Mission time remaining – 47 Hours, 03 Minutes]

The digits hovered at the corner of Olivia’s vision, glowing a dull red like a countdown to doom. Her eyes fixated on it, mind numb as the lecture buzzed in the background.

"...and that is why energy runes cannot be layered over unstable fields—Miss Olivia, care to repeat what I just said?" the instructor’s Vaelis voice rang sharply.

Olivia blinked. Her hand, still holding her pen, hadn’t moved in minutes.

"No, Instructor," she said flatly.

A few snickers echoed across the classroom.

The instructor clicked his tongue and moved on, but Olivia barely noticed. Her thoughts spun in relentless loops. Forty-seven hours. That’s all she had left to figure out Alexa’s connection to the school.

She had no idea how she was going to go around it. ’How can I get information about her?’

She exhaled deeply and rubbed her temples.

Alexa.

That name alone made something tighten in her chest. The prodigy flame wielder. Cold, unreachable, terrifying in her strength. But there was something underneath her perfection—something brittle and broken. Olivia had seen the flickers. The too-long stares at the higher-ups. The haunted look that vanished the moment she was acknowledged.

’The best way to know about someone is information, and that is gotten from gossiping.’ Her eyes flickered around the room, momentarily stopping on Freya’s empty seat. Her stomach churned. She clenched the pen, almost snapping it in two.

’Focus Olivia,’ she muttered. Then, her eyes landed on Lucian, whose cold aura was spilling through the classroom, causing goosebumps to crawl on the students’ bodies.

She gritted her teeth in frustration. The only thing she is good at is to mess things up.

Her gaze then moved to Klaus, who was busy staring back at her, before smirking. Olivia closed her eyes in distress. She didn’t even know how she ended up in this place.

After she had glanced around the room, she couldn’t find anyone to talk to. The rest of the students saw her as an eyesore; they wouldn’t even spare her a minute to have a conversation.

’Abigail.’ The name rang in her head. A small smile tugged on her lips. She was the perfect person for this, as she was unable to lie.

Finding a new lead, Olivia could not help but glance at the clock every now and then. Adrenaline rushed through her veins, her fingers tapping on her desk, her leg shaking impatiently.

By the end of class, Olivia took her bag and dashed out of the classroom, purposely avoiding Klaus.

She headed straight to Abigail’s room, whose building was situated outside the school.

Getting there, she knocked on her door a couple of times but there was no answer. Olivia panicked. If she can’t get hold of her right now, she is doomed.

Her hand shakily reached for the doorknob. She mindlessly pushed it down, and the door opened. Her breath hitched. ’Why is the door open?’ she thought inwardly.

She inhaled deeply before taking a hesitant step inside the room. The light was switched on, but the sight before her made her freeze midway.

The air was thick with perfume and something else she couldn’t place... Sweat and... She couldn’t find the right word.

"Was there a burglary going on here?" she whispered to herself. A crease formed between her brows. Shoes, clothes, undies were scattered everywhere. There were broken shards of glass.

She heard faint noises coming from the other room compartment. ’The thief is still here,’ she thought to herself, grabbing a vase from the shelf.

She slowly walked towards the other room. Her heart skittered in her chest, each beat sending waves of nervousness down her spine.

Getting there, she steeled herself. ’You can do this, Olivia. You have fought monsters before. This is nothing,’ she reminded herself.

With a strong resolve, she flung the door open, dashing inside the room. Her half-squinted eyes locked on the figure that was looming over the bed. Without a second thought, she smashed the vase on his head.

"AAAAAARGH!!!"

A scream echoed through the room, making Olivia open her eyes wide.

Olivia stood dazed, absolutely stunned by the sight in front of her. Abigail was sitting in front of her, completely naked, screaming in horror.

Olivia’s eyes slowly turned to the man who was lying on the floor, naked. Blood gushed from his head, staining the white floor.

"AAARGH!" She joined Abigail in her scream, completely taken aback by the sudden turn of events.

That was when the realisation hit her like a thunderbolt. When she had entered earlier, there was a leg wrapped around his waist, and the moaning sound echoed in the room.

’Why didn’t I look properly?’

"Oh my God!" Olivia cried out in shock. As everything became clear, she quickly turned around from the view before her. Her lips stretched into a silent cry. Her hands fumbled uselessly.

"What have you done?" Abigail cried out before running to the side of her lover. She grabbed a towel to cover herself before grabbing her first aid kit.

"I... I don’t know. I thought you were being robbed," Olivia replied, feeling anxious and confused.

"Is he dead?" she asked, her voice cracking with fear and guilt. She had hit him from the best angle she could get, and she had used all her strength. What if he didn’t survive? She would become a murderer?

Abigail let out a sigh, totally annoyed and worried, not to add to the fact that she was left unsatisfied, and she was so close to .....

"He’s not dead, yet," she said, her voice laced with anger. "And who the hell would think this was a robbery? Are you so dumb that you cannot easily connect the dots?"

Olivia shut her mouth. Tears threatened to escape from her eyes. She bit her lower lip, as her heart pounded in her chest. It was like she was being poured with cold water.

She couldn’t believe it. After everything she’d done to meet Abigail... she ended up here, in the most awkward situation possible.

"By the way, how did you get in?" Abigail asked, her hand skilfully treating the wounds. The smell of antiseptic filled the air.

"Your door was left open," she whispered. Olivia decided to sneak a look to see if the man was okay. She wondered if her nose had gone numb.

Her breath caught in her throat. She immediately regretted her actions. Her eyes landed on the man’s... not-so-little brother. She gagged, and immediately turned away.

Her face flushed with embarrassment. ’I can never unsee that.’ She cried inwardly, officially declaring the day as one of the worst days in her life.
