Chapter 66: Chapter 65 No Other Choice

Olivia sat stiffly on a worn out couch in the other room, her heart still racing from what had just happened.

The room was filled with silence, a stark contrast to the chaos she had just left behind. Her fingers drummed anxiously on her knee as she stared at the wall, trying, really trying not to think about what she had just seen.

’I can never unsee that...’

She groaned, rubbing her face, the embarrassment was still fresh. In the silence, every rustling sound from the other room made her stomach twist tighter. She knew she had messed up badly.

A few minutes later, Abigail emerged, arms folded across her chest. She had an unimpressed scowl on her face. Olivia immediately sat up straighter, trying to gauge her reaction.

But Abigail didn’t speak. She just stared, her gaze piercing through Olivia’s frame.

"...I’m sorry," Olivia blurted out. "I really, really didn’t mean to ruin your... uh... moment." She cleared her throat. "And I didn’t mean to knock your boyfriend out, either. It was... an accident?"

Abigail arched a brow, crossing her arms tighter. "An accident?" she repeated. "You knocked him unconscious... with a vase he gifted me."

Olivia winced. "...Yeah."

Silence stretched between them.

Abigail exhaled sharply, shaking her head. "Do you even realize how hard it is to find a man in this school who’s not an absolute trash pile? And you..." She pointed a finger at Olivia accusingly. "...you storm in like some crazed lunatic and nearly kill him?"

Olivia bit her lip. "Okay, but in my defense, your door was open, your place looked like it had been ransacked, and the noises..." She stopped, face heating up. Nope. Not finishing that sentence.

Abigail narrowed her eyes, clearly not amused.

"...Look, I really am sorry. I’ll make it up to you." Olivia clasped her hands together. "I’ll... uh... get you chocolates? Pay for a date? Babysit if you two ever have kids?"

Abigail gave her a deadpan look. "Just stop talking."

Olivia snapped her mouth shut.

Abigail sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of her nose before finally slumping onto the couch beside Olivia. "...What do you want?"

Olivia hesitated for a second, then got straight to the point. "I need information on Alexa."

Abigail’s brows lifted. "Alexa?"

Olivia nodded. "Yeah. Anything you know. Anything weird, suspicious... anything."

Abigail leaned back, clicking her tongue. "Can’t say I know much. She doesn’t talk to anyone, doesn’t hang out, doesn’t even breathe in our direction if she can help it."

Olivia frowned. "Nothing at all?"

Abigail shook her head. "She’s a ghost, Olivia. No one knows where she goes when she’s not in class. She’s either training or off the grid." She paused, then tilted her head. "Though..."

Olivia sat up straighter. "Though what?"

Abigail hesitated, her eyes flickering with something almost cautious. "It’s nothing. Just... rumors."

"About?" Olivia pressed.

Abigail exhaled, her fingers drumming against her thigh. "The underground world."

The words hung between them, thick and heavy. Olivia blinked, her pulse kicking up a notch. "The what?"

Abigail’s lips parted, then snapped shut, as if she had just realized she had said too much. She quickly averted her gaze. "Forget it."

Olivia narrowed her eyes. "No, definitely not forgetting it. What do you mean by the underground world?"

Abigail shook her head, standing abruptly. "I’ve already said too much."

Olivia grabbed her wrist before she could walk away. "Abigail."

For the first time since the whole vase-smashing incident, Abigail actually looked serious. "Trust me, Olivia. Some things are better left alone."

But Olivia had never been good at leaving things alone. And she sure as hell wasn’t about to start now.

She went silent, her thoughts calculating how to get the answer out of Abigail’s mouth.

"Where is the underworld located?" she asked, her eyes gleaming with mischief. As long as Abigail couldn’t lie, she was bound to tell her the truth.

Abigail opened her mouth, but she quickly shut it, glaring at Olivia. The words threatened to spill out. But she couldn’t—saying it would lead to more trouble than anything Olivia had encountered before.

"Just say it. Where is it?" Olivia pressed.

After a couple of seconds, Abigail felt like she was being pressured from the inside out, as if a heavy weight was on her chest.

"It’s located in the eastern part of the fortress," she blurted out quickly, gasping for air.

A smile formed on Olivia’s lips. "Thanks for the information, Abigail. You’re the best," she said, standing up to take her leave.

"Wait. Where are you going?"

"To the underworld," Olivia said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Abigail stood up, holding her back. "Are you crazy? That place is dangerous. It’s ruled by outcasts from society," she whispered the last part.

"So they’re in the eastern part of the fortress. How are they outcasts if they still live here?" Olivia arched her brow. "I think you’re just overreacting."

Abigail shook her head. "No. You don’t understand. The eastern part is known as the dead zone. Even if you’re very powerful, you’ll be nothing more than a human without powers. And the leader is easily irritated, he can have your head with a snap of his fingers," she said, her voice laced with worry. Her bubbly self was long gone.

Olivia took a step back, her eyes staring intently at Abigail’s face. She would have assumed Abigail was lying, but she knew she wasn’t capable of telling lies.

"So you’re saying the underworld is a place where the laws can’t reach. And if I go, I’m basically wearing my life on my sleeve?" Olivia swallowed, a cold bead of sweat forming on her face.

She clenched her fists, her brows knitting together. There was no other choice. If she didn’t go, she’d lose what made her human. If she did... she might not come back.

She pulled her hand from Abigail’s grip. "I’ll be careful," she said before walking out of the door.

Abigail stared at the door where Olivia had disappeared from her view. "You’re going to get yourself killed. It’s a place cohabited by both high-level monsters and outcasted humans," she muttered under her breath.
