Chapter 138: Chapter 137 A Deal With A Monster

"Protect my young, and I promise you unfathomable powers." Olivia groaned as the voice echoed in her head. Her eyes widened when she realized that it was the monster.

"Why do you trust me with that task... I hate monsters," she thought in her head.

"Because only you can keep it safe. Say yes, and I’ll pass all my powers to you."

"I can take your core after you die."

"Not if you die first. The power of my core is just one-tenth of my power. I’m different from the normal monsters."

"How so?"

"Say yes. And you will know. I don’t have time." The monster’s voice became urgent.

Olivia thought to herself. She doesn’t have anything to lose if she said yes. "Yes."

The monster laid on her body. To the watchers, it looked like it was devouring her. "I’ll hide it in your sea of consciousness."

"How do you know about that?"

The monster didn’t reply. Olivia felt a cold surge of energy through her body and mind. She felt her strength coming back stronger.

A barrier of fire and ice formed around them. The wave of energy it was exuding made the onlookers shield their faces with their elbows.

"What is happening?" one of the students asked.

Micheal gritted his teeth as he could not tell what was happening there. But there a golden and white light formed within the barrier. From the outside view, it looked like they were intertwining together.

Then they saw her body floating upwards, her black hair dancing along the energy.

"The monster is transferring its essence to her," one of the teachers pointed out in complete shock. This has never happened before, as monsters and humans were enemies and always at each other’s throat.

"This was the purest and most powerful form of gaining their powers, as it is transferred willingly."

"I thought it was nothing but a myth."

"But why did the monster choose to give almost all its cultivation to her?"

Micheal walked a few steps closer to the railing, his hand tightened around the cold steel. His master wasn’t wrong, rather he was the one who had been overlooking her potential. This just confirms that she was the one they have been searching for.

Back in the arena, a gush of cold wind whirled around the monster and Olivia. The markings on her head burned with so much intensity, before it began to absorb the cold white energy from the monster.

"I have done you a huge favor, even increasing your lifespan. You shall protect my child no matter the cost... even when all the creatures are after it." The voice of the monster faintly echoed in her head.

Before she could ask what it meant by that, it was like her core had opened its mouth wide, sucking all the essence from the monster as she began to absorb more and more essence.

A blood-chilling scream escaped her lips as she felt her internal body getting colder. It was painful, and at the same time, she grew hungry for more.

She managed to open her eyes, and all she could see was how her fire was trying to neutralize the frost coming from the monster.

"Your body is still weak. You can’t take all of my essence." Its voice became fainter.

Olivia felt her skin tingling as two opposing powers surged through her veins. One moment she was feeling very hot, and the other moment extremely cold.

"Farewell..." the monster’s voice disappeared into silence. Its icy blue eyes closed gradually, a streak of cold tears flowing down its eyes.

Olivia’s body floated midair as the energy rushed into her with so much intensity that it made her feel overwhelmed. She could feel all her wounds healing, but the strain on her was too much, and she lost consciousness.

Her body slowly dropped to the ground.

As the energy died down, the watchers were now able to look without shielding their faces. Gasps filled the air.

The pit was covered with icy frost, spikes of ice formed around the walls and the ground. It was as if a massive snowstorm had just rained in the arena. They saw Olivia’s small frame lying on the ground close to the monster’s body.

Red flames flickered around her body, as if it was guarding against the cold. However, her body, including her lips, brows, and eyelashes, were covered in frost.

"Go check if she is still alive," the announcer said to the healer who was standing close to the arena.

The healer entered the pit, although he was a little afraid to go inside, because he didn’t know if the energy would freeze him alive. But as he stepped onto the icy floor, a second went by, and nothing happened. He sighed out of relief before making his way towards her.

He squatted beside her, his brows knitted into a frown. This was strange—how could someone be burning with fire yet have their body frozen in frost? He tried to make out her features, but he couldn’t because of the blood that had stained it.

He dared not touch her. "She is still alive," he yelled out to the crowd, his eyes fixated on the weak rise and fall of her chest.

The crowd erupted into a cheerful cry.

....,.

Olivia’s eyes fluttered open. The calm blue sky with serenity made her want to breathe out in relief. She sighed, knowing that she was back in her sea of consciousness. This had been a place of escape from her harsh reality, although it could also be like a pain in the ass sometimes.

She sat up, scanning the area for Eritrea. She wanted to talk to her about the things she had encountered. She had a faint feeling, more like a tug in her chest, that the decision she had made could lead to drastic consequences.

But she wanted to believe there was nothing that could have gone wrong with adopting a monster, a species she hated to her bones.

"OLIVIA!!!" came the raging voice of Eritrea.
