Chapter 137: Chapter 136 Last Man Standing (3)
The man stopped just a few feet from her. "That’s very brave of you, I must say," he said with a smirk.
"Now prepare to meet your end." He ran toward Olivia with a speed she could not fathom.
Slash.
Olivia stumbled to the ground, avoiding his attack by an inch of luck. The silvery glint of his spear flashed before her eyes as it aimed for her chest. She quickly used her sword to block his attack.
The man pressed harder, exerting all his strength. Olivia’s sword lowered to her chest, cutting through her clothes and drawing blood from her skin. The sharp pain made her realize this might really be the end for her.
She was still in the Ember ranking—how could she compare with someone at the Cataclysmic ranking? But when had she ever fought someone or a monster at her level? She was not going to die now... at least not today.
Her green eyes turned gold, her hands engulfed in flames.
"Scram," she uttered, and the next second, the man was sent skittering across the ground. He managed to stop midway, his chest heaving up and down, his eyes burning with disbelief and anger.
How could someone with such a low level make him fly a few meters back? Who was she? His gaze burned as he locked eyes with her.
Olivia stood to her feet, a devilish smirk forming on her lips, but as she raised her hand to attack, she stopped midair. Her eyes flicked from gold to green, back and forth.
Olivia wanted to stay in control of her powers, not let her powers control her. This was her fight, and she wanted to fight it with her full consciousness.
The man smirked when he saw that she was battling with herself. He immediately charged toward her, leaping into the air, yelling as he held his spear with both hands, aiming for a final strike.
But Olivia’s golden eyes stared with amusement. She raised her fiery hands, burning like lava. She effortlessly stopped his attack, her hand tightening around his spear. Her lips tugged up into a devilish smirk beneath her mask.
Red liquid began to drip to the ground. The man’s eyes widened when he realized that his weapon was melting into nothing but liquid. He tried to take back the weapon, but it was too late.
Some of the red liquid dripped onto his hands, and he quickly retracted them, feeling as if they were about to melt away like his weapon.
He watched in horror as his weapon turned into nothing but molten metal. Anger and pain brewed in his chest.
After Olivia had melted the weapon, her eyes instantly turned green again. She shook her head to clear her foggy mind. When her eyes became clear, before she could fathom the next move, a hand suddenly grabbed her, slamming her against the ground.
Blood sputtered from her mouth from the impact, her eyes widened when she saw the fury in the man’s eyes. A blow landed on her face, splitting her mask in a horizontal line.
Olivia quickly held his hand, but she was too weak to actually stop him. Another blow landed on her face, and she swore she saw stars. She was surprised that her teeth didn’t fly out of her mouth.
Everything blurred in her gaze. She had been in close contact with death before, but this was different. This time, she wanted to win, she wanted to survive. Was she being too ambitious?
At that moment, she saw all her memories replaying in her head—Abigail, the crazy Klaus, Alexa, Diana... and Lucian. At that point, she regretted why she hadn’t kissed him and why she hadn’t said yes to his half-girlfriend request.
Another blow landed on her face.
As she stared death in the face, she now knew what she had lost. Oh, how much she longed for him, for love. Oh, how much she longed to be in his arms again, to feel his warmth against her skin, to feel those tingles of electricity down her spine.
Another one landed on her face, blood gushing over her skin, her mask splitting away completely.
If she could survive this, she would give them a chance. She would live a life she wouldn’t regret, even if she died.
Her eyes threatened to close, then she saw a white figure towering over them. Her lips slowly pulled up in a smile. She didn’t cry for help or alert anybody.
The crowd began to cry out, panicking, as they tried to get the man to look behind him, but he was too invested in his rage to hear their warning.
When he saw the smile on Olivia’s face, he hit her one more time, then he realized she wasn’t looking at him but above him.
As he raised his head to see what she was staring at, he saw nothing but red before darkness wrapped around his consciousness. The monster he thought he had killed opened its jaws, severing his head.
His body froze, and with a nudge of the monster’s foot, his body shattered.
Olivia’s breath hitched, blood oozing from her nose, skin, and mouth. Her emerald green eyes locked onto the monster’s icy blue ones.
As Olivia’s vision blurred and her breath came in ragged gasps, she felt a strange warmth in her chest—a desperate flicker of life, a stubborn refusal to fade into the darkness. She clung to that spark, even as her body screamed in agony.
’I can’t die here... not yet,’ she thought. ’There’s still so much left undone, so many promises unkept. I won’t let it end like this.’
The icy chill of the monster’s presence crept closer, its shadow stretching over her broken form. But even in that moment, as her blood pooled around her, she chose to keep her eyes open, to face death without fear.
The monster walked closer to her. When she thought all was over, she felt its cold body around her. She looked up, and she swore she saw pain, sadness, and a tinge of hope in its eyes.
