Chapter 136: Chapter 135 Last Man Standing (2)

Olivia’s eyes widened in horror as she saw something white running into the arena with the speed of lightning.

"AGGHHH!"

A blood-chilling scream echoed through the air as one of her opponents was sent flying into the air before slamming into the wall.

Gasps echoed through the air, as the only thing remaining of him was nothing but his shattered, frozen body.

The contestants’ eyes widened in fear. This... this wasn’t what they had signed up for, but they really didn’t have any choice now. They either fight or be killed.

Olivia knew she would be in a tight spot, but she didn’t know she would be facing such a monster that could freeze her with just a single touch.

The monster blurred through the arena, attacking two more contestants, who were turned into nothing but chunks of ice.

Olivia knew if this continued, they would be nothing more than ice. They needed to fight together. "Everyone, come closer." But the contestants only glanced at her as if she was crazy.

"That’s the only chance we have if we want to take on that thing!" she yelled. She wasn’t doing this because she wanted to be a hero, but because she needed them to survive.

"She might be right... let’s come together," one of the men with golden hair said.

The contestants began to huddle together. Olivia walked to their front, her eyes fixated on the monster, which had a fox-like body but stood 8 feet high. Its blue, icy eyes glared at them. Its fur was oozing with white smoke.

Without a second thought, it began to charge toward them. Olivia raised her sword to the sky, and a river of fire flowed out from the blade, forming a barrier around them.

The monster tried to break through but was quickly hurt by her fire. It stumbled back before pacing closer toward them.

The contestants gasped as they stared at her in complete awe. But a second later, Olivia spat out blood. She was clearly no match for an SS-level monster; the attack had caused her internal injuries.

"Don’t just stand there! We need to kill that monster," Olivia said through the pain.

"You guys attack from here while I shield you with my flames," she added.

"Okay, watch my back," the man with the golden hair said, walking in front of Olivia. He extended his hand, and a spear formed in his grip. "Attack!"

The spear flew out from the barrier, targeting the monster. But the monster swiftly maneuvered its body, dodging the attack.

"This won’t do. We have to get out of the barrier," one of the contestants said, turning to Olivia. "We’re putting our lives in your hands. Shield us whenever it comes in for a close attack."

Olivia nodded. She retracted her barrier. They all ran out, summoning their systems.

Lightning flashed through the arena as the sound of iron against iron echoed through the air. The monster nearly bit off one of the men’s heads, but Olivia quickly enclosed him with her flame.

She was like the protector of the group. Her job was to protect them from the monster’s touch while they stopped it from getting too close to her.

"Restraining order, proceed!" one of the men yelled. A white pentagram formed under and above the monster, and chains flew from the ground and the air, holding the monster in place. The monster let out a screeching wail.

For some reason, Olivia felt pain and pity for it. But she quickly hardened her heart. It was its kind that had killed her best friend. It didn’t deserve her pity.

Seeing how the three of them had tackled the beast, she knew they were in the highest level of the cataclysmic ascension ranking.

The man with the golden hair pierced his spear through the monster’s heart, drawing one last whimper from its lips. The monster’s eyes slowly shut.

She remained a few feet away from them. One of the men turned around, yelling to the crowd in victory. Then a spear suddenly burst out from his chest. He slowly looked down at the spear, a look of surprise contorting his face. As soon as the spear retracted, the man fell to his knees before collapsing to the ground.

A gasp escaped Olivia’s lips as she slowly stepped back. She knew this was going to happen... it was a game of the last man standing. What was she expecting?

The man with the golden hair and the other engaged in a fierce battle. The man with the power of runes formed a barrier around himself, as his power was more defensive than offensive.

But the man with the spear specialized in offensive attacks. He began to strike the barrier with all his strength, and seconds later, the barrier cracked. The man tried to defend himself, but his opponent’s attacks were too fast and powerful.

Then, with a swing of his spear, the man with golden hair slit his throat. The rune master clutched his throat as blood gushed out. He gurgled, choking on his blood before everything went blank.

Olivia’s breath hitched when the man with the golden hair suddenly turned toward her.

"You’re a very smart kid... but only one of us can leave here," he said, as if he truly felt sad in his heart, but the greed and bloodlust in his eyes told a different tale.

Olivia swallowed, cold sweat dripping down her spine. Her clammy hands tightened around her sword. This man standing in front of her wasn’t ordinary. The aura exuding from him made her shiver.

"I would have suggested you give up, but sadly enough, one cannot quit in the middle of the battle," he said, dragging his spear along the ground, leaving a trail of blood behind.

Olivia’s heartbeat thudded in her ears, each pulse a reminder that she was still alive, still fighting. She couldn’t afford to falter, not now, not ever.

"I wouldn’t quit even if there was a choice for it."
