Chapter 117: Chapter 116 Duality
Olivia sat in front of the grave with a tombstone that had Luke’s name carved on it. She did not say a word. She was solely focused on his name carved in the stone. For some reason, instead of bawling her eyes out, she was oddly calm but blank.
After minutes of silence, she finally opened her mouth. "I’m sorry I could not attend your funeral... and I came in a rush, I forgot to bring you a flower. I’m such a bad friend, aren’t I?" she chuckled, but it was so empty and devoid of emotion.
"I’m doing fine, you don’t have to worry about me..." her gaze turned stern. "I promise, I’ll make them pay... I won’t leave any stone unturned."
Footsteps echoed from behind her. When she turned, she saw Abigail standing behind her, sweating profusely. She had a worried look on her face, but she didn’t come any closer to her.
Abigail wanted to scream at her not to pull such a stunt again, but seeing how she was sitting dejectedly, she had to hold her emotions back.
She scratched the back of her head, remembering how she had almost turned the hospital upside down when she realized that Olivia had gone missing. Now looking back, she might have overreacted a little.
She stood behind her, giving her all the space she needed.
Olivia returned her gaze back to Luke’s tomb. She believed she didn’t have to say much, she had to let her actions speak for her.
The screen of her system blinked a couple of times before opening fully, as if it was awakening from a deep slumber.
[System Alert: Host is awake]
[Mission: Failed]
[Repercussion: None]
[Alert: New Mission]
[Mission: Host need to Level Up to level 12]
[Failure to accomplish will lead to a backlash, hence the probability of host losing all her level is exceptionally high]
[Time left for mission: 96:59:50]
The system shut as soon as she read the information.
Olivia’s lips curved up a little. Perfect timing. She was even planning to upgrade her level, hunt those monsters, and take the sacred flame. She would grow strong enough to protect herself and her loved ones.
.......
A ragged breathing echoed through the woods. Lucian held his head, his eyes squinting from pain. His body burned in ways he couldn’t explain.
He couldn’t understand why he didn’t kill them. He had never spared a life before. And why was his head hurting as if it was about to split into two, like something—or rather someone—was trying to take over?
He fell on his knees, as scales rippled around his body, sparkling under the sun’s rays. His fingers dug into the ground, resisting the force. He could not lose control now. He had just come back. He could not leave now.
A groan escaped his throat. "I’m the real one. This is my body... I can’t be a vessel for someone else." His eyes blazed.
"It’s not time yet."
A voice echoed in his head.
Then, a yell escaped from his lips. The woods shook from its power. And then... silence ensued. Afterwards, the sound of a thud followed.
Dimitri, who had been looking for Lucian’s trace, finally found him lying on the ground unconscious. He couldn’t believe his eyes. His master was unconscious? What could have happened?
He had come with the thought that he would have already done something outrageous, but here he was, with his face on the ground. He sighed before he walked towards him. When he got closer, he squatted in front of him.
Reaching out his hand, he wanted to wake him up, but he halted midway. He had been with his master for a very long time. If he was woken up by him, would he tie him up on the dartboard, throwing knives at him?
The thought brought bolts of shivers down his spine. His body vibrated. "I’ll let him wake up by himself," he muttered, standing up.
"But what if he woke up, and maybe this time punished me because I let him lay on the ground?" He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Well, f**k this. Whichever I choose, I’ll still get punished."
"My Lord, wake up. The ground is not befitting for your gracious body," he said, tapping his arms as gently as he could.
However, no matter how much he tried to wake him up, he wasn’t budging. Dimitri closed his eyes before hissing in frustration. It seemed like he could not avoid his fate this time around. He internally shed tears for himself out of pity. Who knows what plan he was going to formulate for his punishment?
.......
Lucian’s eyes opened to the warm light of his dorm. His throat was so dry as if he had just made a trip to the desert without any water. He gently sat up, groaning weakly from the pain that was shooting up his spine.
Blankly, his grey eyes scanned his environment. Then, he caught sight of Dimitri who was rushing towards him.
He wanted to ask for some water, but before he could say anything, Dimitri fell on his knees, bowing before him. "My Lord... I’m sorry for my incompetence. I have failed you... Please accept the sincere apology of your servant."
For a moment, only silence was the translator of their communication. Lucian frowned, unable to find the reason for his extremely weird behaviour. He had told him several times not to address him as his lord.
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Lucian thought maybe he was referring to the battle he had fought without him.
"It was not your fault. I was the one who didn’t inform you about it..."
’What is he talking about? And was he taking the blame instead of putting them on me? This is so unlike him,’ Dimitri thought inwardly, thinking this was the calm before the storm.
"... And I have told you countless times, don’t call me your lord."
Dimitri’s head shot up to look at him, confusion smeared on his face. "Lucian?"
