Chapter 115: Chapter 114 Prey vs Predator

"Is that all?" Lucian’s gaze scrutinised him.

" Ummm... He has also been searching for the marked one. The one marked by your flames... however we have not been able to find her," Dimitri lied through his teeth.

"The marked one.." He drawled, "We have to look for her first, she bears half of my powers... I need to take it back."

Lucian glanced at his bandaged body, a frown formed between his brows. "And how did I get these wounds?"

"You... I mean Lucian was almost killed, he had made some enemies," Dimitri’s heart pounded in his ears, when Lucian stood up and walked closer to him.

"You have proven that you are a good follower..." Lucian raised Dimitri up, his hand patting his shoulder. " When I ascend, you will be second in command to me... as you have always been," he said with a proud look.

Dimitri stared blankly at him, he was very happy to see his master back... however he had grown used to Lucian’s kindness. A part of his master he had long locked away and threw its key into the bottomless sea.

" Get me some clothes, the world has to know its king has awakened... But first I have some hunting to do." His eyes gleam with mischief, he has given his prey enough time now, now he has to chase after her.

Before Dimitri could say a word, he had already disappeared through the door. He closed his eyes, why the hell does he have to awaken now, this was bad timing... and if he laid eyes on Olivia, that would be the perfect recipe for disaster. Without a second thought he chased after him.

.......

Olivia rested her hand on the wall of the school. Her charred lips and pale skin made her look like a ghost that had just walked out of a tv, her legs threatening to buckle beneath her, not to talk about the pain that was vibrating through her body up to her skull.

But none of that was worth her worry, she needed to see her best friend, she needed to apologise for the life she had cost him.

Someone had told her that he was buried in the Survivors graveyard, which was a long walk from the hospital.

After walking for several minutes, she reached the bushy area, a sign that she was close to her destination. However she halted, when she caught a movement from the corner of her eyes. Her heartbeat raced in her chest, this was exactly what had happened before she and Luke were abducted.

Leaves rustled under her bare feet. Her body protested every movement, but her will kept her going. She had to see who was spying on her.

She followed the winding path, pushing past tall grass and creeping vines. The trees thickened, and the air grew heavier, and quieter. Olivia’s steps faltered when she noticed something slumped behind a tree up ahead.

Her heart skipped a beat when she saw a leg protruding out behind a tree.

Olivia cautiously walked towards the body, curiosity getting the best of her. She dragged herself toward the figure, as she got closer, her eyes widened. "Diana?" she breathed.

The girl was hunched over, her back pressed to the tree, blood staining her clothes, her arms clutched at her side as if trying to hold herself together. Her entire body trembled, she looked like she had been in a horror film , her wide and haunted eyes flicked up toward Olivia.

"Diana, what happened? Who did this to you?" Olivia’s voice cracked as she knelt beside her.

Diana opened her mouth, but only a whisper escaped.

"...Lucian."

"What?" Olivia leaned in to hear her properly.

"He’s... he’s not the same," Diana choked out, her lips pale. "He... he wanted to kill me. I tried to stop him, Olivia, but he’s someone else. He looked at me like I was a prey, Olivia, I told you before that he is dangerous... I told you to kill me."

Olivia’s blood ran cold. "No... that can’t be true. Lucian—he wouldn’t... he’s not like that."

Diana shook her head desperately. "I swear. Something’s wrong. He doesn’t remember anything. His power... it’s overwhelming." She whimpered, her gaze lingered on Olivia’s reaction, as long as she buys it, she would make her kill him, since she had failed.

Olivia tried to steady her breathing. Her heart pounded as she scanned the forest behind them.

And then... A soft whistle echoed through the woods. It was a slow, casual melody.

Diana’s nails dug into Olivia’s arm.

"No... no... he’s here," she whispered, her entire body going rigid.

A tall figure emerged from the shadows, his movements graceful, unhurried. Lucian. But something was different.

He wasn’t the boy she knew.

His golden eyes glowed with a low flame. His steps made no sound, and expression held none of the warmth she had once clung to. It was blank, and empty. His eyes scanned over her like she was something beneath his notice.

He stopped a few feet away, hands in his pockets, his lips curled in faint amusement. "Oh. There you are."

Olivia stood up, shielding Diana behind her despite the pain. "Lucian... what are you doing?"

He tilted his head. "Funny. You talk like we’re close."

Her breath caught.

That tone. That indifference. This was clearly not him.

"You’re not yourself," Olivia said through clenched teeth. "What happened to you?"

Lucian gave no reply. His eyes dropped to Diana. "She ran like a coward. Tried to put a knife through my heart. How pitiful."

"She was afraid!" Olivia snapped. "You were strangling her!"

Lucian slowly turned his gaze back to her. "And now you’re defending her? Hm. How amusing."

He stepped forward. The air around him thickened with pressure. Olivia instinctively stepped back, her hand trembling as she held her ground.

Lucian’s smirk deepened. "You do look familiar, but I can’t seem to remember where I’ve seen you before."

"Did you hurt your head in the fight?," Olivia asked, a look of concern flashed through her eyes. "And I’m not letting you hurt anyone else."

His eyes narrowed.
