Chapter 113 - 112 Surprise

Chapter 113: Chapter 112 Surprise

The beeping sound of a life support machine echoed through the room. Olivia’s eyes fluttered open to the sound.

The ceiling seemed blurry at first, but it slowly became clearer after several blinks. She looked around; the strong smell of antiseptics invaded her nostrils. Her brow arched when she realized that she was in a hospital bed.

Her eyes wandered down to the drip plunged into her bloodstream. The memories of what happened came crashing into her head.

She closed her eyes again. This was a sad truth that she needed to accept, but why was it so difficult to?

The sound of a snore made her look down beside her. Someone lay her head down on the edge of the bed while she sat on a chair.

Her wavy brown hair was tied into a ponytail.

"Abigail?" Her voice was barely heard. Olivia tried to reach her, but a searing pain shot through her body. Her fingers trembled before falling down to their position again.

"Abigail," she called out again, but this time louder.

Abigail grunted before continuing her sleep. Olivia closed her eyes, sighing deeply. What was she expecting? Abigail slept like a rock—difficult to wake up.

But she needed to know how many days she had been asleep. She had to know if Luke was buried or not.

Her heart stung at the thought of seeing him buried. She tried to sit up, but her body shook in protest. A groan escaped her lips as she fell back on the bed.

Abigail’s eyes opened groggily. Her mouth made some weird noises as it opened and closed several times.

She turned to Olivia. She froze, her sleepy eyes still processing if what she was seeing was real.

"Abigail... help me up," Olivia’s cracked voice echoed in her head.

She’s awake? Her eyes widened. She rushed to help her up.

Abigail’s lips stretched into a cry. "You sure scared the hell out of me."

Olivia stared at her. Her heart should have been warmed by her care, but why didn’t she feel anything?

"How long have I been asleep?" she asked in a monotone voice.

Abigail quickly blinked the tears away. "You have been asleep for a week now."

I have been asleep for a week? What about Luke?

"What about Luke?... has he been buried?" The last part came out more like a whisper.

"Yes, his funeral was five days back." Her eyes saddened as she saw the unresponsive reaction from Olivia.

So she even missed her best friend’s funeral? Her fingers trembled before they clutched the sheet beneath them.

"Can I get some food... I’m starving."

"Okay, wait for me, I will get you some food," Abigail said before dashing out of the door.

When Olivia saw that she was gone, she began to remove all the plunges on her body. She needed to see with her own eyes where his last resting place was.

A cry escaped her lips when she rose to her feet. Her legs trembled under her weight. Every step she took was accompanied by aching pain. She gritted her teeth as she made her way out of the room.

’I need to see him. Just once. Even if it’s just a grave.’

...

Dimitri paced around the room as he glanced at Lucian’s unconscious body now and then. It had been a week now, and he still had not woken up.

A knock snapped him out of his thoughts. He knew he had to go now. He could not let anyone see him. Else, it would create more trouble for him—and especially Lucian—sabotaging their plan.

He quickly vanished from the window. The door creaked open, and Diana’s head peeked out from behind it.

She scanned the room to see if anyone was there. When she confirmed she was alone, she stealthily stepped into the room.

She shut the door closed before walking closer to Lucian’s body. Her chest rose and fell, her heart banging in her ears.

This was the moment. She could not hesitate now. If she killed him now, then everything would be over. She brought out a white jade-like knife.

She held it tightly with both her hands. She raised it above his chest. She swallowed. The memories of his gaze piercing through her soul from her version sent shivers down her spine.

She closed her eyes, and when they opened, they shone with resolve. She had waited and delayed far too long.

Her knife plummeted down to his chest, aiming for his heart.

But then, Lucian’s hand moved and stopped it inches away from his chest. His eyes snapped open, and they burned like golden rings.

Diana’s breath hitched. Her eyes widened in panic. She exerted all her energy on the knife, pushing it down. But the knife didn’t move any further.

When she raised her head, her eyes met his golden ones. Her heart sank into her stomach. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up.

This... this wasn’t Lucian.

This was the gaze of exactly the man she had seen in her vision. Cold sweat formed all over her.

It was now or never. But before she could channel more of her energy, his hand gripped her neck. The next thing she knew, pain shot through her back to her head as she collided into the wall, cracks forming from the impact.

Blood splattered from her lips. Her body went limp, but his hand still pinned her neck against the wall.

"Impossible," she muttered. He wasn’t supposed to awaken now. Horror reflected in her eyes.

A cold smirk formed on Lucian’s lips. "Surprise," his powerful voice echoed through the air.

"Let go of me, you... you can’t kill me," she stuttered.

But the next moment, she saw stars. Lucian slammed her head against the wall. The coppery, rich scent of blood filled the air.

Diana’s gaze blurred. "I make the decision," he drawled, his eyes flickering with a devilish glint.

He raised his other hand to deliver the final blow, but a hand suddenly stopped him midway.
