Chapter 103: Chapter 102 A Best Friend Before the Storm
Olivia pulled out of his embrace after she was totally calm. She wiped the remaining tears from her eyes.
"I’m sorry for being a mess... I don’t know why I was so emotional," she nervously stated, staring at the ground.
"You don’t have to apologize for that. Just know that you have my shoulder to cry on whenever you feel like it," he patted his shoulder, smiling softly at her.
Olivia nodded her head. "Thank you, Luke," she whispered, smiling sadly at him.
"Come on, we should get going now," Luke pulled her up. They both walked towards the school. He wanted to ask her what Diana had told her that made her break down to this extent, but he couldn’t bring himself to ask.
"You’re not going to ask why I was crying?" she asked, stealing a glance at him.
"No. But if you want to talk about it, I’m all ears."
Olivia looked at him with so much warmth in her heart. He was a great comforter; his presence was like a reminder that she wasn’t alone in this.
The feeling of knowing that someone had her back made her feel better and at the same time grateful. "You’re a great friend, Luke. I don’t know what I did to deserve someone like you."
"I think it is the other way around, Olivia. You gave me the chance to be one."
"Do you want to be my best friend?" she asked, her eyes brightening at the thought.
Luke’s steps faltered, his face lighting up. "Your best friend?... of course, I’d love to."
"So we’re besties now," Olivia smiled at the thought of having a best friend. Although her heart still ached, having something warm to fill it up made her believe that maybe she could attract good things. Maybe she deserved one.
Luke nodded at her. His heart pulsed with a new kind of warmth that he didn’t know existed. Right there, he swore to be a good friend to her.
As they walked down the pathway, a twig snapped, making them halt midway. Luke became alert, scanning the area cautiously for any suspicious movement.
But there was nothing. "Luke, maybe it’s some animal?" Olivia said, trying to push down the unease that was rising up her throat like bile.
Luke’s tensed body moved closer to Olivia. "We should get out of here," he said, glancing one last time around the bushes.
They hastened their footsteps. As they were about to step out of the bushy area, something moved with the speed of lightning. Before Luke could react, a hand struck the back of his neck.
He slumped to the ground. Olivia, who was unaware, only turned around when she heard the noise of the thud.
"Luke!" Her voice rose in panic. Her heart almost flew out of her mouth when she saw Luke lying unconscious on the ground.
She dropped to her knees beside him, shaking him to wake him, her palms trembling. " Wake up, please..." But unbeknownst to her, A figure appeared behind her.
The hair at the back of her neck suddenly stood on end. Something was wrong. The forest around her went terribly still, sending shivers down her spine. As she turned to know why she had grown so nervous, only a blur of a hand was what she saw before everything went blank.
.......
Lucian stared blankly at the empty seat behind him. He hadn’t seen Olivia after their fallout yesterday.
He had hoped that he would be able to see her today at school, but all his hopes flew out of the window when he realized she wasn’t coming.
His brow knitted together when he also realized that Klaus wasn’t in school too. They were together, weren’t they? Maybe laughing. Maybe kissing. The thought made something primal stir inside him, something he wasn’t ready to name.
Lucian gritted his teeth as bitterness spread through him like a virus. The pen in his hand suddenly snapped into two.
He closed his eyes as he tried to control his emotions. Why was he getting angry about them? They were in a relationship. He was the third wheel in their ride.
No matter how he tried to push the feeling away, he couldn’t. No reason made it better.
The sound of the bell rang through the school, indicating that school was over. Lucian calmly strode out of the classroom, cold aura spilling from him.
A student suddenly blocked his path. The girl blushed in front of him as she handed a piece of paper to him.
Lucian coldly glared at the girl, his jaw twitching from irritation. He didn’t have the time to be an idol right now. He needed to find out where Olivia was, even though he believed she was with Klaus.
Well... he needed to see it with his own eyes to be one hundred percent certain about it.
He eyed the girl before walking past her, but the girl ran after him. "You might want to read it," the girl advised, forcing the paper into his hand before dashing off.
Lucian looked at the paper in his hand, his eyes throwing daggers at it as if it was the cause of his problem.
He squeezed the paper, about to throw it in the trash, but he halted. ’Maybe there was a reason why she wanted me to read it,’ he thought to himself.
He opened the paper and began to read its content. "You have one hour to make it to the Forbidden Forest. Come a minute late... and all you’ll find is Olivia’s corpse."
Lucian froze, blood draining from his face. Without a second thought, he blurred out of the school building, arriving at the entrance of the Forbidden Forest. Fog covered the forest like a blanket, everywhere was silent, not even a single chirp of a bird.
A thought clawed at the back of his mind. ’This is a trap. What if they don’t have Olivia?’ He knew he should have brought Dimitri along, but he had no time to waste. He couldn’t risk losing Olivia over his doubts.
It was better he fell into their trap than let harm come to her. Without another thought, Lucian blurred into the forest.
