Chapter 104: Chapter 103 Captured

The trees stood still as he blurred past them, the fog made it harder to see. His heart raced in his chest. They didn’t say anything about where to meet. This meant that he had to cover most of the forest area before he could find it.

...

Olivia lay on the ground, dirt clung to her hair. Her eyes fluttered open to the voices of some men.

’Luke,’ alarm rang in her mind. She turned, searching for him. She saw him lying motionless on the floor.

She tried to move closer to him but was restricted, as both her arms and legs were tied up. She crawled on the ground like a caterpillar.

When she got to where Luke was lying, she nudged him with her head. "Luke, wake up," she whispered.

After several nudges, Luke finally gained his consciousness. His eyes squinted from the rays of the sun that filtered through the canopy of the trees.

He groaned before his eyes landed on Olivia. "Olivia... are you okay?" Concern flashed through his eyes as he saw the way she was bound.

"I’m fine... what about you?"

"I’m good. I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you," he said, his eyes averting hers.

"You don’t have to apologize. It’s not your fault. I’m sorry for dragging you into this," Olivia’s breath hitched.

"No, you shouldn’t apologize." Luke finally looked at her. "What we need now is to find a way to escape," he whispered.

Olivia nodded as they glanced at the men who were standing, exchanging conversation as if they were waiting for someone. The fog made it hard to make anything out of their facial features.

"Can you reach my rope?" Luke asked. He moved closer to her. Olivia turned her back against him, her hands reaching for it.

She tried to loosen it, but no matter what she did, or how hard she tried, she couldn’t do it. "I think the rope is a magical tool," she said, turning to face him again.

Luke wanted to say something but clamped his lips shut as footsteps echoed toward them. The twigs snapped, and the dried leaves crunched under their feet.

"You are finally awake," a voice mused, his tone sending shivers running down Olivia’s spine.

Olivia’s face turned ashen. That voice—it sounded so familiar that her body slightly trembled with fear and anger.

She turned slowly, praying inwardly that it wasn’t who she thought. But before she could turn, a hand pulled her up by her throat.

He hadn’t applied pressure yet, but he yanked her closer to his face. Olivia’s breath stuttered as she came face to face with him.

Luke panicked. He got on his knees. "Let her go," he growled at the man.

The man turned to Luke, flashing him a cold smile before he returned his attention to Olivia, who looked like she had seen a ghost.

"Gauss," she whispered in horror. He had escaped the last time after he had stabbed Lucian, but she didn’t believe he would show up so soon.

He let out a loud laugh before his eyes turned cold. "How does it feel that you are in my hands again?" His gaze pierced through her like a pincer.

From her first encounter with him, she knew how petty he was. "Let my friend go, and we can settle this between us," Olivia tried to stop her body from trembling like a leaf before the wind.

Gauss’s eyes flickered to Luke, whose face looked like he wanted to gut his throat. His eyes lingered on him with amusement. "I’m afraid I can’t. The more, the merrier," he said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

Luke struggled to tear the rope that was binding him. He couldn’t let any harm get to her. But no matter what he did, he couldn’t get it loose.

Olivia gritted her teeth. "I have to get back to you for what you and that pretty boy did to my Pubby and Bummy." His words brought chills with a promise of unleashing hell.

"You are the one who got them killed. If you didn’t try to take what didn’t belong to you, if you were not that greedy, you would still have your pets with you," Olivia snapped at him.

Gauss clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Guess who is rushing here at this moment?"

The question was like a punch to Olivia’s stomach. Her eyes widened, panic etched on her face. Only one name replayed in her head like a broken tape. ’Lucian.’

She glared at him. "This is between us. Don’t let this get messier than it already is," she warned. But deep down, a terrifying fear tugged at her chest.

"It’s already messy, Olivia. I must get vengeance," his eyes flared as his hand tightened around her neck, choking the life out of her.

Olivia’s face turned red, her legs kicking the air. Luke struggled to his feet, trying to save her, but his bound legs made it difficult to move.

Gauss felt the shift in the air, all his hair stood up on their ends, but before he could realize what was wrong, a hand suddenly held Gauss’s. For a moment, it was like time stood still. And in the next second, he was sent flying before he crashed into a tree.

The impact shook the tree. Then he fell to the ground. Blood gushed from his mouth, releasing the coppery smell of blood into the air.

When he raised his head up, he saw the person he wanted to kill the most. The white-haired boy who had sent his priceless pets to their demise.

Lucian stood, holding Olivia in his arms. His gaze held her surprised one for a couple of seconds before he snapped out of it. He quickly burned the rope away.

"Release your friend and get out of here," he ordered. His eyes were cold and stern.

Olivia stared at him in a daze before his words registered in her head. She quickly turned to Luke and melted the rope with her fire.

"Luke, you are injured. Run." Her words came out in a rush. Her eyes were filled with concern.

"No," Luke growled, his eyes blazing. "I’m not leaving you behind. I’m fighting with you."
