Chapter 101: Chapter 100 Kill Him Before He Kills You
Olivia rested her hands on her knees as she gasped for air.
Luke walked out slowly, his face beaming. "I thought this would be a perfect gift for you," he said, shyly holding a sword with its sheath on. "Your attribute is fire... this had been in my lineage, but no one was able to use it. I think now it has found its rightful owner. I made some changes to it... just a little."
Olivia looked down at the gift in his hands, and for a brief second, it felt like someone had cracked open a window in her chest, letting in warmth she hadn’t known she was missing.
She reached for it; she drew the sword out of its sheath. A gasp escaped her throat, her eyes widened in amazement.
The blade’s steel sparkled under the sunlight. Its hilt was designed with an intricate green emerald embroidered with black steel. It was like a vine flower, while the green stone gleamed sharply underneath it.
Olivia bit her lips. "Your gift is really nice, Luke, but it had been in your lineage. I can’t accept it," she handed the sword back to him.
"I just said no one has been able to use it. If you don’t accept it, then it is as good as useless."
Olivia bit her lips. She really wanted the sword—it was cool. But another part of her knew that it must have been important for it to be kept so long in their family.
"I insist, Olivia. You really are the only one who deserves to use it," he gave the sword back to her.
"Since you insist, the sword is now mine," she beamed at him.
"Sure!" He grinned, his heart blossoming like a flower. "Now, come with me, I will take you to Diana."
"Luke, thank you for your gift. I love it," she said, her voice laced with gratitude.
Luke only smiled. "Don’t mention, come on."
They both headed to Diana’s dorm.
When they got there, "I will wait for you here," he said, resting his back on the wall.
"Okay, see you later," she said, before knocking on the door.
After a couple of bangs, the door finally flew open.
"What?" Diana’s stern voice echoed through the air; her gaze was cold and tired.
Olivia beamed at her. "Hello, it’s me again," she tried to sound as lively as she could.
Diana rolled her eyes at her, attempting to shut the door, but Olivia quickly blocked her midway with her arms.
"Hear me out, please," Olivia’s eyes stared pleadingly at her.
"But I told you all I have to say. I have nothing more to tell you," she tried to lock the door again.
But Olivia blocked it again. This time, she pushed the door open, entering her dorm.
Diana closed her eyes to rein in the anger that was close to erupting.
"Olivia, leave."
"Why are you being so cold and distant to me? You weren’t like this back in the domain. You looked at me... you cared for me. Did I do something wrong?" Olivia ranted out, her voice cracking with emotions.
Diana averted her gaze, shutting the door closed. "Olivia, people change. I have my priorities now, so I can’t be a good friend to you." Her voice was nonchalant.
But deep within her, her heart ached. She didn’t want to be like this, but this was the best way not to hurt her... so she wouldn’t be surprised if she plunged a sword through her chest one day. That was her destiny, and Olivia had become her nemesis—one she had to eliminate to balance the peace of the world.
Olivia’s heart went numb. She had a feeling that Diana didn’t mean what she was saying, but she also knew that whatever this was, she was also not willing to tell her.
"I understand, Diana. It’s okay if you can’t be a good friend. But we can still be friends," she managed to say, forcing a smile.
Diana looked away. She believed her emotions would give her away. She hoped maybe in the next life they could be good friends without the world pitting them against each other.
Olivia’s gaze lingered on her frame. She had become thinner and a little pale. Her heart squeezed out of pain.
The room fell into silence. Olivia’s hands twitched by her side, hesitant about how to start the conversation.
"I came because of Lucian. Can you please tell me why he is dangerous? I need the full details, Diana, please," the last part came out in a desperate whisper.
Diana turned slowly towards her. She scoffed in amusement. "It seems like you have doubts about my warnings."
"No, I don’t, Diana. But... but he is my friend. If I have to stay away from him, then I have to know the reason why," her throat tightened.
"You really want to know?"
"Yes," Olivia answered without batting her eyes.
"All you have to know is that you have to stay away from him. Or you’ll be killed and your essence devoured by him," Diana said with so much calm, that Olivia found it hard to breathe.
Olivia’s gaze wavered. ’Lucian will kill me and consume my essence?’ She quickly shook her head at that thought.
"How do you know about that?"
"I saw, Olivia. I saw it with my two eyes. He plunged a sword right through your chest," Diana pointed at the left side of her chest. "You looked so surprised. I saw the tears rolling from your eyes, mixing with the rain and blood. But he only smiled in satisfaction. He enjoyed killing. That is why you must stay away from him... kill him before he kills you."
Diana’s eyes filled with hope. If she could get Olivia to kill Lucian, then maybe they could be good friends, and she wouldn’t have to kill her. This plan was brilliant and perfect. She only needed to persuade Olivia to do it.
Olivia staggered back, completely shocked by her revelation. Her hands trembled beside her. Her chest burned with disbelief. Lucian... the Lucian she knew with his warm gaze and selfless act, would smile while ending her? And the only way for her to escape it... is for her to kill him?
