Chapter 53: Tsunami(1)
After an intense conversation, their emotions calmed down, and they decided to rest for a while to update their situation and check on their family. They drove back and found a secluded area to enter the space.
Elena immediately called them. Upon hearing that Elena was inside the space, they quickly entered and asked about the situation around the city.
"We’re currently outside City D and heading to City F. The city was devastated by the earthquake, and it will likely take a long time to clean up. Given that this is a national disaster, I’m afraid the government will have to double its rescue efforts, leaving little time for minor issues."
Elena described the situation of the people and the current government response. After a few minutes, they hit the road again.
This time, they needed to move faster. As they approached City F, they noticed that the situation here was far worse than in City D. People were panicking to leave the city.
They stopped momentarily and asked someone, "Sir, what’s going on in the city? Why are people running?"
The panicked man replied, "There’s a big sinkhole in the city. I suggest you don’t take this route anymore."
He hurried away after giving them the warning.
"Call Grandpa to see if he knows what’s happening in this city," Elena said.
Ethan immediately tried to call, but there was no signal. "Can’t be reached. Use your skill to contact them."
Elena focused and said, "Grandpa, we’re currently stuck in City F, and a big sinkhole is nearby. Do you have any news from TV about the situation here?"
Understanding the gravity of the situation, Grandpa Caldwell replied, "We don’t have any information. The signal and electricity were cut off a while ago. A big explosion happened near the power plants. We don’t know the situation yet."
Stunned by the unfolding events, Elena relayed the message to Ethan.
"We need to go; we just have to pass through. We’ll detour away from the city center," Ethan suggested.
As they entered the city, they encountered a scene similar to City D: people shouting angrily, some crying, and others blaming the government.
As they approached the sinkhole, they could hear helicopters flying overhead, military vehicles surrounding the area, and rescuers working to save the trapped.
Ethan was not supposed to go near the sinkhole, but curiosity got the better of him as he approached it. When he finally saw it, he gasped. It was enormous, over 100 feet in diameter and at least 50 feet deep, and had swallowed several buildings.
Now, he understood the people’s panic.
"Wife, let’s leave here soon," Ethan said, calm but firm.
Though not panicking, Elena felt worried about the future.
"Let’s go," she agreed.
They quickly left the area, helping anyone struggling along the way by lifting debris when they could, but not overexerting themselves.
Elena believed that kindness should still be shown amid chaos but should be based on one’s capability.
After an hour of navigating, they finally exited City F and were ready to head toward the coast of City C.
"I hope we don’t encounter any bizarre situations like the previous city," Ethan said.
Elena looked at him and replied, "Don’t jinx it."
After their lighthearted bickering, they slowly left the road, hoping for a smoother journey ahead.

On the coastal road of City C, people were suffering from the devastating aftermath of the earthquake. Grim faces filled the streets as they made their way to the medical center.
Little Lucy, a 6-year-old girl, looked at the debris-filled area with fear in her eyes.
"Brother, where are we going?" she asked, worry evident in her voice.
Daniel, her older brother, felt the same fear but masked it for her sake. They were orphans; their parents had abandoned them a long time ago, and now he was the one raising his little sister.
Thankfully, they had been outside when the earthquake struck.
"Let’s get out of this city and travel to City B. It’s safer away from the sea," he replied, trying to sound reassuring.
"I’ll listen to you, brother," Lucy said, trusting him completely.
They quickly gathered their belongings, ready to leave the coastal city. But before they could escape, the sound of a tsunami warning alarm blared, sending a wave of panic through the streets.
"Sister, hop on my back! We have to run!" Daniel urged, as he took off his own bag.
As the streets filled with frantic people, Daniel decided to look for higher ground. He sprinted as fast as he could, but the water was rising quickly behind them, flooding the streets like a chaotic wave.
"Help!" a man shouted as he was trampled by people.
Another one shouted, "Don’t push me," as she tried to balance herself.
Panic erupted as people screamed and stumbled over one another, desperate to escape.
"Hold on tight! Sister" Daniel shouted as he ran, searching for a way to safety.
The water on his back crept closer, swallowing everything in its path.
They dashed through the streets, dodging debris and desperate crowds, but the roar of the tsunami grew louder. Daniel felt a surge of fear as he realized they might not make it in time.
"Lucy, take off your bag! We need to get inside the hotel faster!" Daniel said as he told his sister to unload the baggage.
As they tried to sprint inside the hotel, the people on their side’s reactions varied as the tsunami water surged closer and closer.
Some were frozen in shock, staring wide-eyed at the approaching wall of water, unable to comprehend the danger.
Some children cried, looking for their relatives.
"Mother, where are you?"
Some were yelling, "Brother, Run"
Others screamed, their voices filled with panic as they frantically called for loved ones, searching for familiar faces in the crowd.
Daniel rushed toward the entrance, but just as they reached the door, a massive wall of water surged forward and crashed down on them.
They were swept toward the hotel and tossed among debris. Desperate, Daniel fought to keep his head above water, scanning the swirling chaos for his sister.
He had to find her.
"Lucy!!" he shouted, his voice nearly drowned out by the ocean’s roar.
"LUCY!! Where are you? LUCY!!"
