Chapter 54: Daniel the madman

A few hours before the tsunami hit the coastal area of City C, Elena and Ethan were driving nonstop. As they approached the city, they stumbled upon a group of people struggling to lift a huge rock that blocked the road.

Seeing that they needed help, Ethan stopped for a moment and instructed Elena to wait for him.

"Wife, try to contact the team for their updates."

"Okay, go ahead so we can proceed out of here," she replied, calling the team while watching him join the others.

The group worked together to clear the road, and soon Ethan and Elena hopped back on the motorcycle. But just a few meters after they left, the mountain above collapsed, leaving no road to enter or exit.

They were taken aback by the sudden turn of events. Elena felt a wave of unease wash over her.

’Are they being jinxed? Why does it feel like the heavens want to kill them?’

Ethan glanced back at the collapsed mountain and scattered rocks, grateful they had passed through before it happened, but worry still gnawed at him. The disasters were just starting, but it felt like the world was ending.

"Wife, this..." Ethan was speechless.

He then urged, "Let’s move away. I’m afraid another collapse will happen"

"Oh, goodness, don’t say jinx word anymore," she replied, shaking her head.

They quickly left the scene and shifted their conversation to other serious topics.

Ethan was curious and asked, "Wife, in your dreams, are there more bizarre things than this?"

With a serious tone, she replied, "Yeah, far worse than this collapse. We must always expect the unexpected."

"Like what?" Ethan asked.

"In my dreams, changes in weather are pretty normal. Today it’s sunny and hot, tomorrow it’s winter, and the next day the world is covered in a sandstorm. We have to get used to this as if these natural disasters are pretty normal," Elena explained.

Before they could delve deeper, they arrived at City C.

"Let’s rest for a moment; we’ve been on the road for hours," Ethan suggested, concern etched on his face.

But Elena felt uneasy, her instincts urging her to leave as soon as possible.

"No, we have to go. I’m fine. Let’s have a quick snack and hit the road again."

"Wife, it’s almost evening, and it would be difficult to navigate the roads," Ethan disagreed.

Before they could discuss it further, a tsunami warning alarm blared throughout the city.

They exchanged stunned glances.

’What the heck is going on? Are they really jinxed? Is today not a good day to travel?’

"Let’s go find a higher place to stay. This tsunami wave shouldn’t be as high as a fourth-floor building," Elena reasoned, trying to stay calm.

Elena believes that since the natural disaster was just starting, the waves would not be as bizarre as they would become later.

’Right?’

Ethan nodded with an urgency in his voice. "Let’s head to the Blackshear Hotel."

Seeing her husband’s anxiety, Elena spoke gently, "Calm down!"

Though she felt distress too, her past experiences helped her maintain composure.

As they ran toward the hotel, they saw people rushing around, looking scared and confused. Families grabbed their children, and others shouted for loved ones. The atmosphere was chaotic, with people pushing to get to safety.

When they arrived at the hotel, the first wave hit the city with a powerful force, flooding the lobby with water. Just as they were about to enter the first floor, Elena heard a desperate shout.

"Lucy!! Where are you!! Lucy!"

Curious, Elena turned back to see who was shouting, only to find a teenage boy crying with all his heart.

His cry echoed the one she had let out when she learned Ethan had died.

She felt compelled to check on him, but when their eyes met, she was taken aback.

’It was Daniel the madman, Ethan’s loyal right hand from her past life, the boy who had always listened to them.’

She then remembered that he had mentioned having a sister, a very cute girl who had tragically died in the tsunami.

Urgently, she looked at her husband and said, "Help the boy; I saw him in my dream."

Without asking questions, Ethan quickly replied, "Give me a rope and tie the end to the secure iron railing."

Elena nodded and summoned a rope, tying it securely on the railing at the first floor. As the water rose rapidly, Ethan swam closer to Daniel, who was clinging to a branch from a nearby tree that had broken through the lobby windows, desperately trying to stay afloat.

"Come here, boy. The water current is getting stronger; we must leave this area," Ethan urged.

But Daniel was focused solely on calling for his sister, who had been missing for a while.

"Lucy!! Lucyy!" he cried out.

Ethan shouted to get the boy’s attention, "Boy, take my hand. We have to keep moving now."

Finally noticing Ethan, Daniel pleaded, "Sir, please find my sister. I beg you. Please, please," tears streaming down his face.

Elena knew she couldn’t transport someone without a mark into space at a distance; she needed to be in close contact with them.

While Ethan worked to convince Daniel to grab the rope, Elena scanned the area to find the girl.

In the left corner, she spotted a girl, unconscious and slightly shielded by a sturdy coffee table from the rushing water.

Seeing Ethan and Daniel still not moving, she urgently called out, "Ethan, take the boy now! Enter Paradise. The second wave will soon arrive."

She quickly checked the area, seeing no people around. She then summoned a small kayak and hopped in, allowing the water to guide her toward the little girl.

Ethan nearly had a heart attack when he saw his wife in the kayak. "Wife, what are you doing?" he shouted.

Elena used her [Telepathy] skill, urgently saying, "Take the boy to Paradise, then swim back to the first floor. Make sure you’re in a safe place before entering Paradise because I will exit at your entrance point later. I found his sister, and I’m trying to drag her to Paradise. Stop worrying; the second wave is coming."

Ethan nodded, concern etched on his face. Seeing that Daniel was now unconscious, he took the boy into the space.

Meanwhile, Elena was almost at Lucy’s location. The moment she touched the girl, they both vanished and entered the space.

Feeling relieved, Ethan said, "Wife, I have to swim back to the first floor and then hide on a higher floor."

He exited the space before Elena could respond, leaving her alone with two unconscious children.

She immediately called her Aunt Liza, realizing that the little girl was seriously injured.
