Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies -
Chapter 232: One down
Chapter 232: One down
Everyone joined in and worked together—except for the kids, who stood by the windows with telescopes in hand, eyes sharply scanning the outside for any sudden swarms of mutated pests.
Grandpa Caldwell had allowed them to take part, wanting them to grow more familiar with the situation.
So, he assigned them to monitor the outside, and they took the task seriously.
"Sister Lucy, when will the pests come?" Little Mia asked, her stomach beginning to growl.
"Little Mia, I don’t know," Little Lucy replied, keeping her eyes on the outside. "But let’s stay sharp and let everyone know if we see anything."
"But I’m hungry! Can we finish already so we can eat? And I haven’t seen my mom and dad today. Where are they?" Little Mia asked sadly.
She had spent the whole morning helping the adults, and now that she was finally sitting down to watch outside, she suddenly remembered her parents.
Well, she missed them.
Little Koby chuckled and replied with a serious yet cute look on his face.
"Little Mia, we don’t have the power to command the pests to come out. We just have to wait and let the adults know if we see anything strange. This is Grandpa Caldwell’s task for us."
Little Mia was a bit confused, but she still nodded. She believed in her brother Koby.
"You’re hungry? Come here, Sister Sera will make you something to eat," Sera said gently, patting her small head.
"Your parents said they’d be busy today. If you need anything, just tell me, okay?"
"I’ll listen to Sister Sera... I just miss Mom and Dad. And Sister Elena isn’t here either. She promised we’d pick clothes together later," Little Mia whispered, lowering her gaze.
"Don’t worry, Little Mia. I’ll help you pick out clothes once we’re done here. I promise," Little Koby said with a smile, while Little Erick nodded beside him, agreeing to help as well.
Soon after, Angela handed out snacks to make sure none of the kids went hungry.
Seeing the kids happily eating their snacks and now settled, Grandpa Caldwell turned to Xander and said, "Let’s move the Paradise Homes kids to your unit. It’s too risky to worry about them while defending against the pests."
Xander nodded in agreement.
He had been thinking the same thing, and now that Grandpa Caldwell brought it up, he was more than ready to carry it out.
He then went to Unit 2402 and instructed Keith to transfer the kids to his unit for better security.
As everyone busied themselves preparing for the incoming mutated pests, Elena and Ethan finally managed to locate the sniper’s position.
"Wife, let’s get ready," Ethan said, narrowing his eyes as he looked through the binoculars.
He caught a glimpse of the sniper’s clothing on the higher elevation—they were hiding extremely well.
If he hadn’t been trained, he might never have spotted them.
And it wasn’t just one—there were many, scattered and concealed in different positions.
Pausing for a moment, they double-checked the snipers’ locations, carefully memorizing each position.
They needed to teleport from different angles later to ensure they could shoot accurately.
"Alright, let’s move now, husband," Elena replied, eager to finish the task.
She was worried about the situation in the building. Grandpa Caldwell had already informed them about the incoming mutated creatures.
Though he told them not to worry, she couldn’t shake her unease—she wanted to be there in case something went wrong.
Soon after, Elena used her [Blink] skill and teleported to another crater, ready to shoot the first sniper.
Without hesitation, Ethan fired a shot, killing a sniper who was caught off guard.
However, their hiding spot was soon discovered, so they quickly teleported again to another crater, preparing for the next shot.
"They seem to have some kind of teleportation ability. Everyone, stay alert," the leader warned the hidden guard, alarmed after one of his men was taken down.
When they fired back, their targets had already vanished—like ghosts.
"Boss, I think we should regroup. Maybe we—" But before he could finish, he was shot and killed.
"Everyone, fall back and hide for now," the leader ordered, choosing safety.
At this rate, they’d be wiped out if things went on. This mission had turned out to be far more dangerous than anyone had expected.
Seeing them hide so well, making it too difficult to shoot, Elena smirked and turned her attention to the scientists.
’Since you won’t come out, then I’ll make you show up.’
She then used her [Blink] skill once more, reappearing nearby and tossing a grenade into the group.
She didn’t want to play anymore—she wanted to end this.
Moments later, a loud explosion shook the area, followed by the screams of Troy’s men and several scientists.
Boom!
They hadn’t even recovered yet when another attack came, leaving them completely helpless.
"What exactly are they?" one of them shouted in disbelief.
"I want out! Fighting them isn’t worth it," another muttered anxiously.
"Ughhh! Help me! A shard of ice stabbed into my leg!"
The snipers were shocked by the sudden turn of events and quickly repositioned themselves—but it didn’t matter.
Each time they appeared, Ethan shot them with precision, taking them down one by one.
With his cover fire, his wife was free to go on a rampage, eliminating Troy’s men without mercy.
He was taken aback by how well they worked together, as if they had been doing it their entire lives.
His wife moved in perfect sync with him, sometimes even catching him off guard.
Before he could give her any instructions, she was already taking action. He could feel just how deeply she understood him, as if it had become second nature to her.
He smirked, thinking they truly were perfect for each other.
Their onslaught kept repeating, putting the snipers at a clear disadvantage. The two staff members moved unpredictably, making it nearly impossible to track or target them.
After tossing another grenade, Elena teleported back to her hidden spot, panting; her space core was nearly drained from repeatedly using her ability.
Still, they had managed to eliminate most of Troy’s men and the scientists’ hidden guards—only a few were left.
"Wife, are you okay?" Ethan asked, noticing she was struggling to catch her breath.
"I’m fine. I can still use my ability, but we need to finish this quickly," she replied honestly.
"Alright. But if you’re too tired, don’t push yourself. Your safety comes first," Ethan reminded her firmly.
He supported her resolve, but not at the cost of her well-being.
"I know, I will make sure I’m safe no matter what," Elena promised, then ready herself once more.
"Be careful," he sighed, concern evident in his eyes as he steadied himself—ready to shoot the moment the remaining snipers appeared.
This time, Elena had one goal: to take down either Dr. Cee or Troy. But she chose to go after Dr. Cee first.
Troy hadn’t been a major figure in her previous life, and she wasn’t even familiar with the name Troy Heather.
She assumed he had either died early after awakening or never gained any noteworthy ability.
Still, she wasn’t going to let him live. Anyone with the surname Heather was her enemy.
And with Heaven seemingly favoring him, she remained cautious.
What if things changed and he became stronger in the future? That would only put them in more danger.
She paused for a moment, then used her [Blink] skill to reappear right in front of Dr. Cee.
This time, she didn’t throw a grenade, as every time she tried to use one near him, it failed to explode, as if some invisible force was stopping it.
However, when used against the minions, the grenades worked perfectly fine.
Now, she was certain—Heaven was interfering.
The scientists and Troy’s men rushed to protect Dr. Cee upon seeing her, but Elena shot them down without hesitation.
Bang! Bang!
They dropped dead before they could even get close.
Those who did manage to approach were met with powerful kicks, sending them flying from the sudden impact.
One by one, the henchmen were slammed to the ground—only to be shot before they could even rise.
Meanwhile, the snipers who dared to show themselves were quickly taken out by Ethan, rendering them completely useless.
Now, facing this terrifying masked staff, Dr. Cee finally felt fear. He had been the one to instill terror in his test subjects, but now that same terror had come for him.
He didn’t understand why the staff was so determined to reach him, but he could feel it—if she touched him, he would surely die.
Panicked, he ordered everyone to protect him, promising them support and rewards once the fight ended.
He no longer wanted to face this staff member directly and planned to retreat first and attack later.
But escaping wouldn’t be easy—they didn’t know where the safe path was with mutated creatures everywhere.
"Don’t come near me!" Dr. Cee yelled, scrambling to run away.
But just then, one of Troy’s men—flung by Elena’s powerful kick—crashed into Dr. Cee, sending him sprawling to the ground.
In an instant, Elena quickly activated her [Blink] skill, reappearing beside the mad scientist.
Finally, no more guards stood between them now.
"Your time is up," she said coldly.
Afterwards, she kicked him with force, sending him into space. And then, she vanished without a trace.
Everyone who saw the scene was frozen in shock and fear. But Ethan didn’t give them time to recover—he kept shooting, taking out the rest.
Not allowing any witnesses to remain alive.
Before he could fire again, however, a sudden swarm of mutated pests stormed in, wreaking havoc across the battlefield.
Ethan narrowed his eyes, tense.
’Where was the assault police team? How had these pests managed to breach the camp?’
