Chapter 25: More money, more problems.
"I..." Fifi started with zeal.
"Close your mouth Fiona Rosemary Quinn." Grandpa Quinn barked for he was not finished.
With a dramatic eye roll towards her father, Fifi closed her mouth unwillingly.
Grandpa Quinn looked at Hades and his eyes softened. "I don’t know what is going on son but I need you to know that even if the company goes bankrupt, we have enough in savings to live on for the next one hundred years and more."
With a hand that trembled a little, he lifted three bank cards. "Most of the money that you have given me over the years has remained untouched. I have around one hundred ninety million in savings. That is more than enough money for us to live on for a long time."
"That is not the issue father." Fifi Quinn snapped.
Ignoring his aunt completely, Hades focused his attention on his grandfather. The old man had lines of worry etched on his forehead and they would stay there until he got some answers. Hades dreaded his grandfather slipping into despair, knowing it would deteriorate his health further.
His grandfather was the person he was closest to in the family. The old man was the one he usually turned to when he needed advice on personal and business matters. He was the one that instilled the importance of loyalty, patience and cunning in him.
Apart from his parents, his grandfather was the only one that could demand for an answer from him.
"Grandpa, I cannot go into all the details but be rest assured that whatever I am doing is for the good of our family. I would never do anything that would jeopardize our livelihood." Hades seemed to be talking to his grandfather but the message was for everyone in the room.
Rori wiped cold sweat. "Phew, I can now breath." Her gaze traveled around the room that still had worried faces. "You have all heard my son. If Hades says that everything is fine then it is." Her words firmer than steel, telling them to end the matter there.
But she was wrong, the matter would not be ended there.
"Cousin, uncle and aunt can be convinced easily because they are your parents but the rest of us need an explanation which is more than just your word." Damien looked around, rallying others with the agitation in his voice. "Don’t you all think that something suspicious is definitely going on, if he had sold off maybe two or three subsidiaries of the company then it would be okay but the whole damn Quinn group! Even our assets in the country side! every damn thing. We contributed to some of those things." Damien’s voice became louder and sharper with irritation.
Fifi pinched her hands to keep from applauding Damien. She looked around, hoping that everyone would rally behind him and yet they remained seated, calm like tamed sheep in a pen.
She was no sheep and she would speak up. "I agree with Damien on this, our hearts cannot feel at ease just because Hades says that things are fine. Tell us where the money you have accumulated from the sales has gone. If you have no interest in business anymore then I suggest that we share the proceeds and each get our cut." She made an absurd suggestion that left a lot of Quinn’s in shock.
Brigitte, the most scandalous of all the Quinn’s was outraged. "My God Fifi, your greed truly has no bounds. If anyone deserves a share of anything it is Cassius whose father was once Hades’ partner at the old company. The rest of us only made small investments because we were afraid to risk making losses. You have not even invested up to one million in any subsidiary of Quinn group but you want hundreds in return. Aren’t you a little too shameless?"
All this while the Raine’s had remained quiet, they were new additions to the Quinn family and had no say on what Hades decided to do with his wealth. But after what Brigitte had just said, joyful shock swept across their faces like a mighty wave.
If Cassius’s father was Hades partner, didn’t that make him a billionaire?
Moon was so excited that she was about to faint as she realized that she was suddenly a billionaire’s wife. She could not wait to rub it in Sunshine’s face. This made them equals, wives of rich men.
Moon was already thinking about how to spend the money on acquiring more stock. She could get machine guns, nuclear war heads and hire armies of super humans.
"This is it! Demand for your imbecile husband’s share of the wealth right now. We cannot leave without it." Rowena urged Moon.
Moon nodded once and raised to stand confidently on her feet. "On that note I demand that Hades gives me Cassius’ share of the wealth, it legally belongs to me as his wife and guardian." Moon imprudently pressed.
A stunned hush descended as Moon’s audacity left everyone speechless. They had not yet dealt with Fifi and here came another greedy cow.
Sunshine could not believe her ears, she thought that Moon would continue to lick the Quinn’s asses. "Hades? Did you call your father-in law-Hades?" She asked, amused.
"Oh shut up Suni." Moon snapped. "If you think that I will play the polite game and allow you to steal what belongs to me you are gravely mistaken."
"Belongs to you." Warren laughed.
"This gold digging servant girl must be sharing her intelligence with Cassius. She thinks she is one of us just because she is now married into this family." Lisha commented.
The insult rolled off Moon like water off a duck’s back what she wanted was the money. She and her family had no plans to extend their stay here anyway. "You can call me a gold digger, servant everything that you want but my husband must get a share of this money." She swiftly turned to face Hades. "You would be nothing without Cassius’ father in fact the Quinn group would not exist! So just give us the damn money. It is what my husband and I are owed." She shuffled her feet as impatience set in, since there were no more avenues to get money, this was it.
"My goodness Rowena can you tame your child!" Rori’s voice rung out in stunned disbelief. How could the mother just stand there as her daughter spoke with such brazen defiance.
Who did Moon think owed her money? Is that why she had desperately claimed to love Cassius and volunteered to marry him? For the money!
Rowena quietly stood and linked her arm with her daughter’s. "I am one hundred percent in support of my daughter. She is not wrong, as Cassius’ wife she has every right to look out for his interests." She lifted her nose in the air.
Fifi lurched from her seat, trying to find her way to the Raine women whom she wanted to beat until they got back their senses.
"This is why I told you not to associate with the help now see where it has landed us!" She said while fighting out get out of Warren’s hold.
