Chapter 24: A family in turmoil
Trevor had to pause the updating and wait for his boss’s thunderous laughter to die down. But it did not seem like it would end any time soon.
Jon Kingsley was so amused that he took to his feet and jumped up to do a victory dance. For so many years, Hades had defeated him in the business department. But it looked he was going to lose when it came to their personal lives.
Kingsley’s wife was a young supermodel from a wealthy wine family, Hades’s wife was a young housemaid from a no name family.
"I cannot wait for everyone to hear this." Jon could already picture the judgement and whispers that Hades was going to get.
He would not be the first man in their circle to dip into the servant pool and the judgement would eventually die down, but while it lasted, Jon intended to fan the flames.
"Find the ugliest picture of his wife that you can get your hands on Trevor and make sure that it is printed in all the newspapers." Jon snickered like a two-dollar villain. "I should congratulate my friend on his marriage."
"Sir, do you want to hear the rest?" Trevor asked him.
"I want the picture first Trevor. Come back and update me after you have seen to it that it is done." Jon barked.

Unaware that she would soon grace the front page of every newspaper in the country, Sunshine was fielding phone calls from different Quinn’s. Hades was doing the same. The calls had been coming in all morning, and they had not stop.
All the couple could do was ignore them. But the closer they got to Quinn manor, the tenser Hades looked. Sunshine was reluctant to admit it but there was something sexy about a smoldering Hades Quinn. His clenched jaw was sharper than usual; his gray eyes seemed to be burning with passion or fury.
Since they left Poncho’s place, he had been wearing silence like a perfectly tailored coat--effortless, hard to ignore.
She was done with the silence, and she poked him on the arm. "Let me guess, you are worried about facing your family regarding this matter."
Hades run his fingers through his hair. "I honestly have no idea how to calm them down; they must be anxious about the entire thing." He let out another heavy sigh.
"Yeah....money issues create a lot of drama in families. I guess many of the people in your family are very anxious because of how they benefit from the Quinn group. The collapse in their status must also be worrying them." Sunshine aired her thoughts.
Hades’ gaze hardened with disapproval as it met hers. "You are wrong, the people in my family are not greedy for any of my things. I have made sure that they are well taken care of over the years and I will make sure that it continues to remain that way even during the apocalypse." His voice reinforced his words.
"Your Quinn family thrives on loyalty but not all of them are loyal to you. The first rule of the apocalypse Hades, you trust no one or you find yourself naked and chopped up for parts for dinner by cannibals or monsters." Sunshine countered.
The car door was opened for Hades, taking away the opportunity for him to ask Sunshine what she met by her statement. He wanted to know who in the family was not loyal. Whoever it or they were, they would not be following the rest to Westbrook.
As she stepped out of the car, Sunshine could feel her husband’s hot gaze on her back. She was not sure if her words had angered him. Bringing to mind that theirs was a business relationship, she decided to stick out of his personal affairs and strolled towards the house.
Her pacing was slow, and it allowed Hades to catch up to her. But he said nothing about what she had said in the car.
"Welcome home Mr. and Mrs. Quinn the entire family has been awaiting your return; there is an ongoing meeting right now in the living room." Kanan Keane, the butler welcomed and informed them, leading the way to the living room.
The vast room fell silent the moment Hades and Sunshine walked in some people shot to their feet while others like Fifi who had dug deeply into the matter glared at Hades with disdain.
"How could you sell our company and assets without our knowledge? Are you running insane? Did that freak accident mess with your head?" Fifi bombarded Hades with questions all laced with accusation and anger.
Without gracing her with a response, Hades wobbled to the front and stood closer to his grandfather. "Hello grandpa." He kissed the stunned old man’s cheek.
"I thought that you were paralyzed my boy." Grandpa Quinn studied his grandson’s body.
"Obviously it was all a lie! Was the faking the accident part of your game to sell our company? Everyone in the business world calls you a wolf, your ruthlessness and predatory behavior is not shocking in that circle. But we are your family you son of a bitch. How could you cheat us? " Damien Quinn’s voice cut through the room--rude, relentless and unapologetic.
Hades’ leg was paining him by now, exhausted after moving around more than his doctor had recommended. He sat down and sighed in relief. His eyes moved and remained pinned on his cousin Damien.
It seemed like the loyalty Sunshine had talked about was being put to the test right now.
"My company you mean." He responded coldly. "Quinn group is my sweat and blood. How dare you put me on the spot for selling my own property. I have cared for all of you for so many years and I never asked for a single thing in payment.
While you slept, shopped and partied on money that I provided, I braved danger, lost sleep, made enemies and worked hard to give you all a good life. The only time some of you ever said thank you to me is when I handed you bank cards, when I gave you jobs you barely qualified for or when you were giving thanksgiving toasts.
If any of you has a claim on any of my properties that I have sold or I have yet to sell then, by all means sue me." Hades’ voice was low yet; it sent chills down the spines of many.
His unexpected, direct and precise response chilled their hearts and shocked them into silence. His aggressiveness was unexpected, and many had no response to the truth which he laid bare.
Among them, even those that worked for the Quinn group, none had shares in the company. Some had made investments over the years, but they did not have management rights.
A bitter laugh caught in Fifi’s throat, tangled with a sob. "I knew that this day would come eventually! All this talk of his about us being part of the Quinn group was just bullshit." She sank in the chair.
"My God Fifi, stop being dramatic and let the boy explain. You know nothing about how to run a business, but you are quick to leap to conclusions." Grandpa Quinn expressed his displeasure. His attention shifted to Hades. "Child is it true that the Quinn group is bankrupt?" He asked.
