Chapter 23: Acquiring weapons.
With all that she had to do in such little time, Sunshine had barely kept up with Moon, what she was certain of though was that Moon was preparing for the apocalypse.
"Ha-ha thank you for giving me that information Hades." Sunshine laughed in a mischievous way. "Knowing Moon, she is setting up a private base in case things do not work out with pastor Salem. She must be expecting to be his right-hand woman or something. If he treats her as anything less that that then she will retreat to Cross town." Sunshine spoke with certainty. "I should block off all chances of retreat for her."
"Why do I feel like you are about to cause some trouble." Hades’ brows lifted in doubt as he scrutinized her.
Sunshine only rubbed her hands together; the mischievous smile still tugged on her lips as the car pulled up to the private airstrip. "Do you know where I can hire good thieves or mercenaries?"
"It depends on what you intend to do." He answered cautiously.
Sunshine could not believe that he had not grasped her intentions just yet. "Raid her supplies of course."
She jumped out of the car, and he followed her, very careful not to re-injure his leg. He walked slowly and she joined him. Sunshine even put her arm around his to aid him with his movement.
Owen was expecting to see his boss shrug Sunshine off. To his surprise, nothing like that happened. He even seemed to lean into her a little bit.
"I would love to hear the story about this great enmity between you and your sister. It seems to me like you want her dead, but you have not decided how you want to do it just yet. I guess you are going to sentence her to starvation in the apocalypse."
"Actually, I am giving her exactly what she wants." Sunshine replied with a mysterious smile.
Didn’t her sister want to live as Cassius’s queen in the apocalypse? All Sunshine was doing was giving her the opportunity to do so.
"How long will it take for us to get to Runfield?" She asked Hades as they entered, they settled into the helicopter.
"About thirty minutes." Hades answered as he placed noise canceling headsets over her head.
It was a thing that made Owen freeze and blink a few times. Since when was his boss helpful? Was he being amiable because Sunshine was proving to be a capable woman or was he just being nice because he needed her to survive the apocalypse?
The helicopter rose and all conversation was put on pause. The flight was short and soon, they arrived in Runfield. The moment they touched down, black waiting cars swallowed them up, speeding off to the strong hold of an arms dealer named Poncho.
Sunshine was once again impressed with Hades’s reach. Indeed, having a powerful rich husband was the best. She was lost in such thoughts that she almost missed what her husband was saying.
"When we get there, allow me to do all the talking. I will get us a good deal."
With deliberate slowness, Sunshine withdrew to observe him. "I don’t know how much you know about guns Hades, but I think it will be better if I negotiate. I know best what kind of weapons we will need."
"I may not know much about guns, but I know about Poncho. They say he has a few lose screws in his brain and anything can set him off. Your confidence is outstanding but to some men, it can be intimidating." Hades responded carefully. "If you say one wrong word, we might die before the apocalypse. Oh, and please, keep your hammer at bay."
He looked at the tool belt around her waist. He had no clue how it managed to hold all the tools it did.
They got out of the car and eight bodyguards flanked them, four on each side. The deal was to take place inside of a normal looking family home. It was well guarded, and they were searched before going in.
Poncho was waiting in the living room, eating cereal out of a kiddish bowl. He asked for their secret code which Hades presented.
Sunshine was using the chance to look around. After finding out that they were to meet an arms dealer, she had been expecting a disorganized den, but it was quite the opposite. This was a clean house, there was no loud music playing. Instead, cartoons were playing on the television.
There did not appear to be any children around. She guessed that Poncho was the one watching the cartoons.
Poncho did not look like what she expected of an arms dealer. He was wearing a suit, without the coat. The arms of his shirt were pulled up and she could see that he had no tattoos at all. His hair was clean cut, and he looked like a responsible businessman that worked in an office.
"Check the weapons to confirm that these are the items that you ordered for." He said as he led them to an empty garage with thousands of crates "From the looks of things, it may take you days to check everything here. Not just here but every bedroom in the house is stocked with your weapons." A slow whistle escaped him half admiration half disbelief. "Never have we got such a massive order of weapons before."
Poncho crossed his arms across his chest and leaned towards Hades. "Mr. Quinn, when a man like you buys weapons of this volume, people get nervous. Might I ask if there is something you would like to share?"
"I was told that no one would ask any useless questions." Hades opened one of the boxes exposing the guns inside.
Sunshine came closer and picked up one gun, a long-range sniper rifle. She held it like an expert, as if she had been raised around guns. She was handling it from memory and instinct.
"You have been around guns." Poncho noted. "Are you a soldier or something?"
"Or something." she replied.
She put the gun down and rifled through the weapons. Hades had ordered for everything from handguns to machine guns. He had also ordered for bullet proof vests, grenades, drones. Even blades of all types.
"We could not get our hands on rocket launchers so quickly." Poncho told Hades.
"It is no trouble; we will just build our own." Sunshine said as she backed away from the boxes.
There was no point in looking anymore. The guns were genuine and dangerous to humans. To some of the monsters from the mist and some super humans, not so much.
It seemed, it was time to repair some of those assembly lines she had taken into her space and begin upgrading the weapons.
Meanwhile, Jon Kingsley’s assistant Trevor had used every resource he had to find out everything that Hades had been up to and he was reading this information to his boss who was sulking because he had already spent two and a half billion on acquiring some of Quinn groups subsidiaries.
"He got married."
"He did what now?" Jon nearly fell out of his chair.
Trevor repeated his words. "He got married Sir, to the daughter of one of his handy men."
Jon Kingsley threw his head back and laughed.
