Chapter 95: The Black Widow’s Wrath
Chapter 95: Chapter 95: The Black Widow’s Wrath
Meanwhile, Liora faced off against another Level 2.
It charged at her, its legs pounding the ground like thunder. She waited with a calm expression, and right before it reached her, she jumped high and flipped over its head.
Her mana sword sliced down across its helmet-like plate, sending sparks flying. It didn’t pierce, but she landed gracefully behind it, twisted her grip, and stabbed into the thinner part between its neck and back.
The spider shrieked and convulsed, but Liora didn’t stop. She yanked the blade out, flipped it, and rammed it into the eye.
Splat!
The spider’s body collapsed. Liora pulled her blade free and turned just in time to block another spider’s attack.

One by one, the spiders fell to the ground with a thud. Their twisted bodies collapsed across the broken floor of the hall. Severed limbs twitched on their own while black blood pooled and spread like oil.
The thick smell of poison and rot filled the air, sticking to their skin and burning their noses. Everyone was breathing heavily, their shoulders rising and falling with each strained gasp. It felt like the end was near. The swarm had grown thinner, and fewer spiders remained.
But just as a hint of hope began to flicker in their tired hearts, a strange, screeching sound echoed from the gate.
Chiiiii... Chaaaaiiiii...
It was loud and very sharp. The kind of sound that pierced straight through the ears and made the back of their necks go cold. For a moment, no one moved. Then all of them turned toward the gate at once.
Their eyes widened in disbelief.
Something enormous stood at the gate—no, just outside it. They could only see the lower part of its body, but even that much was enough to know it was not like the others. It was a spider, yes, but it was unlike anything they had faced so far.
Its body was huge. Its legs were thick, far thicker than the support pillars holding up the villa. The top part of its body wasn’t even visible, hidden by the broken arch above the gate. Even while crouching, the spider was too large to fit through.
Then the spider slowly backed away, taking two heavy steps. Each step made the ground tremble beneath their feet. And then, with a sudden burst of terrifying speed, it charged forward.
In a single, unstoppable motion, it crashed into the archway above the gate.
The entire wall exploded.
Bricks shattered into pieces and tiles flew in all directions. Dust filled the air like smoke, blocking everything from view. The ground shook. Debris fell like rain, and a few pieces even rolled across the floor toward them.
When the dust finally settled, what they saw made every single one of them freeze.
A massive spider stood at the center of the destruction. Its body was sleek and shiny, like polished black armor. Long, spindly legs stretched out from its body, digging into the broken stone beneath it.
The red hourglass marking on its abdomen glowed faintly in the dim light. Its eight eyes gleamed with a cold, deadly light. It stood over ten feet tall.
None of them had ever seen anything like it.
"Black widow spider..." Yan Lin whispered in horror. Her face had turned pale, and she took a step back without even realizing it. "Before the apocalypse, even normal ones were deadly... but this..."
She didn’t finish her sentence.
She didn’t have to.
Everyone understood.
This was no ordinary spider. It was a monster. No one could even guess what level it was. Maybe Level 4. Maybe higher. There was no way to tell. But what they did know was that it was far more dangerous than anything they had faced so far.
A heavy silence fell over the group.
Zhou Ren and Shen Haoran were the only ones who still looked ready to fight. They had fought through dozens of spiders already, but their breathing was steady, and they had not broken out in sweat.
But everyone else was in much worse shape.
Zhou Yinuo was leaning against the wall, trying her best to stay upright. Her hands were shaking. Sweat dripped from her chin and soaked her clothes. Her hand refused to move; she felt like her muscles were protesting against her.
"I... I can’t even lift it anymore..." she said softly, her voice full of frustration and disbelief.
Liang Zihan was kneeling on one knee beside her. His arms felt numb. His fingers were raw and sore from the constant swinging.
"What is this place?" he growled through clenched teeth. "Why the hell are there so many spiders in a residential area? Isn’t this where people are supposed to live?"
"I thought people always cleaned their homes..." Zhou Yinuo mumbled, almost to herself. "Sprayed for pests every month... got rid of bugs... but this..."
They couldn’t understand it.
But what they didn’t know was that not far from them, there was once a man who lived here. A man obsessed with insects, who collected rare and dangerous spiders as a hobby.
He had cages and tanks filled with exotic specimens, some of which were banned in most countries. When the meteor fell and the acid rain followed, all his collections were exposed. The glass broke, and the spiders escaped. And like everything else touched by the apocalypse, they mutated.
Now, this entire area had become a breeding ground. A nest for them.
Liora turned her head and looked at the group. She could see how bad their condition was. Zhou Yinuo and Liang Zihan were both completely exhausted. They had only awakened their abilities today, and it hadn’t even been a full day yet. It was a miracle they had fought this long. But if they kept going now, they would collapse or worse.
"You two need to rest," Liora said calmly, but firmly. "You’ve done enough."
Zhou Yinuo tried to speak, but Liora stopped her with a shake of her head.
"Use the crystals. Absorb what you can. Regain your strength. You won’t be any help if you fall now."
Liang Zihan sighed heavily, then reached for his backpack. "I get it... but I still hate this."
Zhou Yinuo nodded weakly. "Okay. Just... don’t go far from here."
Liora gave a small smile, then turned away.
Zhao Ren stepped forward and spun his spear. The air around him turned, and small pieces of blades appeared in the air.
"I’ll go in first," he said with a calm expression.
Shen Haoran rolled his shoulders. "Let’s see what this thing can do."
The black widow spider let out another loud screech, even louder than before. Its legs scraped against the ground as it stepped forward. Its eyes glowed like tiny, burning coals. It raised its body slightly, and the red on its back shimmered under the dim light.
It was ready.
So were they.
Liora raised her sword and pointed it toward the monster. Her heart was beating fast, but her expression remained calm. She knew this would be the toughest fight yet.
But they would not back down.
"Come," she whispered.
