Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Mutated Jumping Spiders (02)

In an instant, they moved like trained warriors, each falling into place.

Liang Zihan stomped hard on the ground. The floor cracked, and sharp rock pillars burst up beneath a spider mid-leap, impaling its abdomen. Liora rushed in beside him, ducked under one of its flailing legs, and cleanly sliced through its head with her sword in one swift move. The creature fell and stopped moving without even knowing how it had suddenly died.

Liora instantly heard a notification chime after killing the spider, but she didn’t focus on it as another spider was already coming for them.

The spider skittered across the wall toward them with fast and wild speed.

Zhou Yinuo narrowed her eyes. She lifted her hand and summoned a sharp gust of wind, sending slicing currents straight at the spider. The air pressure hit with such force that it flung the spider off the wall mid-crawl. It landed hard on its back, all legs raised high in the air. Chen Wei dashed forward, slashed its exposed underbelly with his daggers, and cut open its brain in a few seconds.

Meanwhile, Zhao Ren stood firm in his position, his arms glowing faintly with metallic energy. As a spider lunged at him, he hardened his skin into steel plates. The spider’s leg hit his arm with a clang but didn’t even leave a scratch.

"My turn," he growled and formed a jagged metal blade from thin air. With one clean swipe, he beheaded the spider with a single swift move.

Yan Lin knelt slightly and swept her hands through the air. Water burst forth from her fingertips, lashing around a spider’s legs and freezing momentarily to slow it. Then vines slithered out from under the debris and wrapped tightly around the creature’s body. As it struggled, Yun Shou appeared beside her, his body sparking with electric current.

"I got this one," Yun Shou said with a smirk and drove his electrified fist into the spider’s head. A loud hiss echoed as the current fried its brain, making the spider convulse and collapse on the floor.

Further ahead, Shen Haoran spun his sword once and then ignited the blade in bright orange flames. As the spider lunged at him, he slashed sideways, flames dancing through the air and scorching the beast. It hissed and screamed, trying to retreat, but Haoran’s second swing sliced through it cleanly, burning as it cut. "Barbecued spider. Not bad," he muttered.

Mei, with her sword in hand, moved with fluid grace. She circled around a wounded spider, cutting deep into the joints of its legs. Each time it tried to jump or lash out, she dodged and cut again—until it finally fell.

Ji Ming was doing the same, fighting with all his might as he killed the jumping spider that suddenly decided to give him a scare by dropping on his head from who knows where.

And Liora, soaked in sweat and grime, charged into the last spider as it tried to retreat. She leapt and slammed her sword down with both hands, cutting it from head to thorax. It screeched in one final spasm before dying.

ding....

another notification chimed in..

They all stood and surrounded by black blood and twitching spider corpses. All the weaker parasites and bugs had long gone into hiding after seeing these spiders.

But now all eight mutated jumping spiders are dead.

They had taken down all of the spiders together. Breathing heavily, the group gathered together.

"Check for crystals," Shen Haoran said.

Without wasting time, they cracked open the heads. Some of them only oozed black mush. But three of the spiders had something else—shimmering crystal cores.

Liora crouched near the one she had killed earlier. She found the core embedded deep in its skull. But it wasn’t like the usual ones.

It wasn’t round. It was oval, slightly misshapen, and gave off a strange glint. Greyish in color.

The same happened with Zhao Ren as he found a dull greyish crystal, but as soon as he touched it, the color deepened into dark grey. A metal-type affinity.

Another core shimmered water-blue. A water-type. One more pulsed with a rich, earthy brown. Earth-type.

And the last one—the one Liora had harvested—glowed with a dull greyish tone. It did not reveal its color even after being shown to everyone. They looked at each other in confusion. They had mostly all types of abilities, but still not all abilities.

"No time to refine these now," Chen Wei said. "We’ll take them and move." Everyone nodded. He was right—they didn’t know what this crystal would bring them. What if something strange happened when they absorbed it?

And most importantly, survival was more important.

They all started moving through the hallway. Liora wiped her face and hands clean with a damp cloth. She was thoroughly disgusted with these insects, and she still remembered that first spider silk on her.

She had cleaned her face, but her hair was still clingy with that spider silk. As she grumbled, she looked down at the still sleeping child tied to her front.

Liora knew it was not ideal to keep a child with her while fighting, but she simply didn’t have any other option. She couldn’t leave him anywhere when they had to keep moving and get out of this place.

So the only option was to tie him to herself. It looked uncomfortable and heavy, but Liora had no problem because she was far stronger now than when she had first arrived here. And a child’s weight was nothing for her to carry. She only had to make sure that during fighting and attacking, she kept him safe too.

Liora gazed at his sleeping figure and felt her heart soften as his cute face tilted slightly to the side, nestled into the carry bag. He was like a cocoon wrapped from all sights, and only she could see him. Liora felt her ovaries react to his cuteness. Maybe she could also have a cute baby like him someday.

But first, she needed to find a man. What a hassle. Can’t she just have a baby without a man? Liora fiddled with the cloths and continued walking, she did not dwell much on this thought...after all it was simply impossible in the apocalyptic world.
