Chapter 92: Mutated Jumping Spiders

Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Mutated Jumping Spiders

A giant jumping spider crawled into view. Its round body was big and shiny, covered in something sticky that looked wet. Its hairy legs were long and thin, and they tapped on the floor like sharp knives. The spider had many black eyes, all staring straight at her. It looked like it was ready to attack, and just looking at it made her skin crawl.

Without warning, it straight leapt forward at the first sight of humans. Maybe finally seeing fresh flesh excited him, so it rushed towards them with full speed. Its movements were horrifyingly fast for something that size.

But Liora didn’t back down at all. She was ready to face this giant spider and overcome her fears. She would not allow these mutated insects to ruin everything She worked hard for.

She steadied her breath, calmed her mind, and raised her sword.

The spider shrieked and shot a sticky, thick web straight at her. Liora barely moved in time. Some of it still splashed across her face. It was cold, slimy, and smelled like rot. She almost screamed from sheer disgust as it clung to her skin.

But she clenched her jaw, wiped it away with her sleeve, and gripped her sword tighter. "Fucking asshole, she would chop its same mouth that dared to spit on her." She cursed the damn giant spider.

She dashed forward and swung the sword with all her might, slashing through the creature’s legs. But the spider was fast and stubborn. It kept dodging, kept shooting more webs at her, determined to trap her and feed on her like prey.

But Liora didn’t allow the sticky web to fall on her again.

This fight was far more hectic than even killing a level 2 zombie. The spider’s movements were erratic, and its legs was covered in hard shell-like armor. It screeched and hissed as she cut it again and again, but it still lunged at her.

Finally, while dodging, she straight jumped on its legs and reached towards its brain and pierced a small dagger on its skin so she would not fall down and kept her balance. The spider screeched as it was injured in a soft spot and tried to shake Liora off. But she held on and drove the blade through its head with one swift motion.

Only the hard part was of this mutated spider was its legs, that were hard to cut, but its upper body was super soft just like human skin and was easily pierced. Maybe because it was just a level 1.

The spider twitched violently for few seconds... then stopped and fell with a thud on the floor. Liora jumped off from its body and landed on the ground before its body fell.

And right then, a new notification chimed from the system.

[Successfully killed Mutated Jumping Spider – Level 1]

[Rewards Gained: +80 Strength, +50 Agility, +48 Health, 200 EXP, +1 Mana Sword, +1 Military Backpack]

Liora raised an eyebrow at the sheer number of rewards. These rewards were too high for just killing a level 1 mutated insect. Far more than what she got from killing any Level 1 zombie. It wasn’t even close. This was closer to killing a Level 3 or maybe even a Level 4 zombie.

Just one mutated insect gave her so much. But she realised that killing it is also hard compared to killing a zombie.

But still she couldn’t help the thrill that rushed through her. Maybe mutated beasts like this spider were rare... but they were worth killing. Before she could get too excited, she heard multiple sounds behind her.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

The same sound of long legs tapping against the floor. Only this time, it wasn’t just one. Her blood ran cold as she looked at the multiple spiders that were heading towards them. Maybe the smell of blood or their own kin’s screams attracted them.

But it did not end here. From the far end of the corridor, more spiders appeared. Big, fat and their eyes glittering with the same hunger as finally they spotted their prey. Their movements smooth and eerily fast. Five... no, seven of them, crawling over walls and across the floor toward them.

Everyone’s expressions shifted from frown to horror. Damn, from where so many are coming?

"Why the hell are there so many of them?!" Liang Zihan hissed as he wiped the sweat from his hands on his clothes. His hands had become sweaty after controlling his power. He felt so drained after only a small amount of time. Maybe because today was his first day of using his ability.

Zhou Yinuo cursed under her breath. "I thought we were done with spiders after that first one! What the hell is this, a nest?!"

Zhao Ren kicked a broken chair aside and readied his floating metals. "Yeah, well, we just pissed off the whole damn family."

Ji Ming muttered darkly, "I hate spiders. I really hate spiders."

"They’re Mutated Jumping Spiders," Yan Lin said, eyes narrowed as she observed the incoming swarm. "I’ve read about them in the reports. They have fast reflexes, unpredictable patterns, and they leap across large gaps and have insane burst speed."

Liora added, "Their legs are sharp as blades, but their upper bodies are weak. Aim for the center, not the limbs."

Everyone nodded and believed her words as she has already dealt with one, so she must know how to kill them easily.

"They’re jumpers," Liora said again. "They’ll lunge the moment we move."

Liang Zihan spat to the side and raised a pile of dirt and soil. "Well, then let’s give them something to jump into and then I will bury it alive... humph!" he added and removed a good amount of soil from the floor.

The tile was already nowhere to be seen. He could almost control most of the solid structure aside from pure soil like tiles and rocks and even debris... after all, all of them were part of ground.

"Took your positions, they are close!" Liora shouted as more and more mutated Spiders approached
