Chapter 74: Chapter 74: The Endless Blood (02)
The six strangers ran as fast as they could, but they weren’t ordinary people. Even from this distance, Liora’s sharp eyes caught the flashes of power that were used by them continuously in the hope to slow the horde behind them.
A sharp crack of lightning hit the ground behind them. One man turned quickly, his body covered in blue sparks that jumped across his skin. He raised his hand without hesitation, and a powerful burst of lightning shot forward.
The electricity struck a group of zombies, lighting them up instantly. Their bodies shook as they were burned from the inside out, then dropped to the ground in no seconds. He didn’t stop to look. More zombies were already pushing through the smoke.
Next to him, a woman moved both arms as the molecules around her started shifting. Water gathered at her feet and started to rise at an alarming rate. There was no hesitation on her face. The water shaped itself into whips and sharp points that she sent flying toward the closest zombies.
Each strike hit directly, some through the head, others wrapping around their necks or legs before tearing through. She kept moving while attacking, not wasting time or energy.
A short distance away, a man with messy hair and tired eyes was hurling fireballs like it was the only thing keeping him alive. Each one exploded when it hit, burning several zombies at once.
The heat from the flames made the air hard to breathe, and he was already sweating heavily, but he didn’t slow down. He just kept throwing fire, again and again, clearing out the path in front of him.
The last man ran silently along his friends, surrounded by blades that floated around his body. They spun in the air, ready to move. When he pointed toward the zombies, the blades flew forward one after another, cutting into bodies and coming back just as fast. He didn’t move much, just kept sending the blades out, killing anything that got too close. He was chopping the zombies effortlessly.
Liora’s eyebrow raised at their powerful moves. No doubt they were strong and powerful.
But even so, it wasn’t enough.
No matter how many zombies they killed, it was like fighting against the tide. For every one that fell, three more took its place. Their powers slowed the horde, pushed them back, scattered them briefly, but they couldn’t stop it.
They were being chased like prey.
"Idiots," Liang Zihan muttered, his face twisting in anger. "What the hell are they doing? Bringing that mess right to us?! Are they trying to get us all killed?"
Zhou Yinuo looked just as furious. "They’re going to lead the whole damn swarm to our front door."
Liora narrowed her eyes, her expression unreadable, but the tension in her jaw said enough. She took a step forward, her fingers tightening around her blood-soaked sword. Her voice was calm, but there was no warmth in it.
"They should’ve turned the other way," she said. "Now they’ve brought death with them."
Chen Wei glanced between the running group and the massive horde. "They’re not weak. They’re powered users... and still, even they couldn’t outrun this."
The cries grew louder.
"Please! We need help!"
"Let us in! Don’t leave us out here!"
They were close now. Only a few hundred meters away.
Zhou Yinuo clenched her teeth. "What do we do?"
Liang Zihan didn’t even hesitate. "We close the gates. We don’t open anything for them. I’m not dying because of someone else’s mistake."
"They’ll die out there," Chen Wei said with a frown.
"And we’ll die in here if they bring that horde through our front door!" Liang Zihan snapped.
The fire user looked over his shoulder as he ran, face wild with exhaustion. "Open up! Let us in! Please, just for a minute!"
But Liora didn’t move.
She stood still, eyes locked on the approaching wave of undead, her mind already racing. The strangers were strong, that much was obvious, but she did not know what they had done to attract such a large number of zombies.
"We don’t have the choice to stop them... they would still come here either with force or willingly. And the zombies, they are already here. We could not run, and neither was our gate strong enough to stop any of them."
The stranger group’s face fell when they got no response from them, and a flash of hurt and unwillingness appeared in their eyes. But soon it died when Liora removed the iron gate blocking the zombies and indicated for them to come inside.
They all hurriedly walked inside before Liora closed the iron gate again in the face of all the zombies. The angry screams of zombies echoed everywhere in the entire neighbourhood.
The group collapsed as they just landed inside. They were all too exhausted from the continuous fights.
Liora did not even want to guess how much longer they had been fighting because their conditions were really bad. All of them were very, very much injured, and only one girl and boy were slightly in good condition, who had been at the front shouting for help.
Liora decided to help them because she knew they would not be able to handle all the zombies alone, so it was better to group together rather than fight against each other.
If the situation were different and the horde of zombies was not already waiting at her doorstep, she would have never allowed this trouble inside her home.
Soon the loud banging and screeching sound came from the door. It looked like even the door would not be able to withstand such a large horde. They did not know when it would fall and they would be swarmed with zombies, so it was better to reduce their number while they still had the time.
Bang....
Screech...
"Give us a few minutes, we will then help fight the zombies and control the horde," the man who was slightly in good condition pleaded with them. Liora did not know what they would do in just a few minutes, but she did not decline them and nodded.
