Apocalypse: Transmigrated with an Overlord System -
Chapter 73: The endless blood
Chapter 73: Chapter 73: The endless blood
The battle had not ended.
They had been fighting for more than two hours now, and the waves of zombies still kept coming, as if the night itself had turned into a curse.
The area was entirely filled with rotten moans and the shuffle of countless feet. The wet sound of tearing flesh and blood splashing. It had all become a constant background noise, almost like a nightmare that refused to end.
No matter how many zombies they killed, more just poured in. At first, there were just a few dozen, then a hundred, and soon they stopped trying to count.
They had never seen this many in one place before. Not even the survivors from the outer zones had ever mentioned anything like this.
Normally, a night attack would bring a few hundred zombies at most, but this time it was like the entire area had been emptied of the undead, only to gather them all at this one spot.
Liora’s sword never stopped moving, even once. She fought as if possessed by something far stronger than fear or pain. Her breathing was heavy as the time ticked, her muscles had become sore from constant swinging, and her clothes were soaked in blood, but her eyes were still sharp, focused, and calm.
The system continued to bombard her with messages as if trying to catch up with the number of kills she had earned.

Liora glanced briefly at the notifications, but she had no time to think about any of them.
So she did not read them in detail, it is just too many, she would look into it later. Right now, she only had one goal and that is to keep killing. Her hands were already moving again, slashing down another zombie that had crawled through the broken gate.
Chen Wei was starting to feel the strain too. His movements were still fast, his speed-type abilities giving him an edge, but his breathing had grown uneven and his body was bruised in more than one place. Even so, he fought on, disappearing and reappearing in flashes of light, his blade taking down more than one zombie
Zhou Yinuo had stopped complaining. She gritted her teeth as she dodged a zombie’s claw, driving her dagger straight through its throat, then spinning to knock away another that had lunged from the side.
Liang Zihan’s arms were trembling as he swung his axe with all the strength he had left. His strikes were slower now, but still deadly enough to knock them in one go.
"I can’t feel my arms anymore," he muttered as he smashed down another skull.
"You’re not the only one," Zhou Yinuo replied, panting beside him. "It’s only the first day of our training... why the hell are there so many?"
Liora didn’t answer, but deep inside she was wondering the same thing. This had never happened before. Zombies did not usually behave like this. They were mindless, chaotic, and scattered.
Even if they are attracted by sound or smell, they never gathered like an army like this. This time, it was very different. And that thought was enough to churn her from inside.
Did something bad is going to happen, was it indicating something? Countless questions swirled in Liora’s mind as she gazed at the horde of zombies.
The street outside was crawling with the undead. The trees beyond the fence were shaking with their movement. More kept pouring inside the villa, breaking through any obstacles, their groans were now louder and twisted than before. That it started hurting her ears.
"They just don’t seem to be ending." Chen Wei said under his breath, slashing another one in half. "Where the hell are they all coming from? This isn’t normal..."
Liora stood in the center of the chaos, surrounded by bodies and blood. Her blade dripped with black liquid, and her red hair clung to her cheeks. She looked so calm, too calm for the madness around her. She raised her head slightly, staring into the dark forest beyond the wall with narrow eyes.
"This feels like a siege," she said quietly.
"A siege?" Zhou Yinuo looked confused.
"Zombies don’t do sieges. They don’t think. They don’t plan."
"They didn’t," Liora replied, her voice soft but heavy with meaning. "But maybe...
something’s changed. And everyone wants that thing...."
Before anyone could ask what she meant, a new sound filled the air.
A voice. It was cry for help....
"Help! Please—someone, help us!"
The sound grew louder, clearer, more frantic with every passing second. At first, she thought she had imagined it. But then another shout followed, and another, and soon it became impossible to ignore.
Everyone paused for a brief moment.
Chen Wei turned his head. "Did you hear that?"
They all did.
From the distance, from beyond the trees, a group of six people suddenly emerged, running at full speed toward their house. Their faces were pale and their movements full of panic.
One man was waving his arms wildly, shouting at the top of his lungs, while the others tried to stay close. And then they realised what was the problem....
A horde. An actual horde was chasing them...
A sea of zombies, snarling and growling. It was pouring through the trees like a dark flood.
Compared to it, the group of zombies outside Liora’s house almost looked small. The zombies stretched far back into the forest, their numbers nearly impossible to count.
Liang Zihan’s mouth fell open. "What the—what the hell is that?!"
Zhou Yinuo stared in disbelief. "That... that’s more than five hundred, right?"
"No," Liora said quietly, her voice hard. "Closer to a thousand."
And they were heading right for them.
