Chapter 42: Chapter 42: New Mission Alert...

Liora wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and threw the empty water bottle onto the ground with a loud thud. The sharp sound resonated through the supermarket, making the trio flinch.

Chen Wei was the first to speak, his voice cautious. "Uh... Liora?"

She ignored him, her fingers still curled into fists as she stared at the ground. Her shoulders trembled, whether from exhaustion or barely restrained fury, none of them could tell.

Zhou Yinuo shot a look at the other two, silently urging them to do something before she exploded.

Liang Zihan sighed, stepping forward carefully, like he was approaching a wild animal. "Look, I know you’re mad—"

Liora’s head snapped up, her eyes burning with rage. "Mad?" she repeated, her voice laced with disbelief. "I dragged boxes in the heat for hours while those bastards sat around doing nothing! And then, after all that, they had the nerve to drive off without us like we’re garbage?"

Chen Wei scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, that was pretty messed up."

"Messed up?" Liora barked out a bitter laugh. "That old bastard Xu didn’t just want to humiliate us. He wanted to treat us like beggars, make us accept this bullshit treatment like we don’t have a choice!" She exhaled sharply, pacing back and forth, hands twitching like she wanted to strangle something—preferably Xu.

Liang Zihan sighed again. "We don’t have a choice. It’s always like this after the apocalypse fell. We humans were treated worse than the dead. And alone, Chen Wei could also do nothing as he was only at level 1."

Liora glared at him.

"We do," she said, her voice dangerously low. "We always have a choice. And one day—one day—I’m going to make them pay."

"Then I will show them that just because they have awakened a shitty power, that doesn’t mean they can trample on anyone. After all, there is always someone above them."

And soon, she would be that person, Liora added in her mind.

The intensity in her voice sent chills down their spines. Zhou Yinuo hurriedly stepped forward, raising her hands in a placating gesture. "Okay, okay, we get it. We’re all pissed, but standing here wasting energy isn’t going to help. Let’s get back to the base first. Then we can figure out what to do next."

"If we wait more, the night will fall, and then we will be trapped here again."

Liora inhaled deeply, closing her eyes for a moment before letting out a long breath. The anger didn’t fade, but she shoved it down—at least for now. Because she knew she was too powerless to go against them. But a new resolve took root inside her. She had to become powerful and never allow anyone to trample on her.

She would do it, for herself and for her parents and brothers. Because she knew they would never be happy if they got to know that she was living such a hard life.

"Fine," she muttered. "But if I see that bastard’s face today, someone better hold me back."

Liang Zihan patted her shoulder hesitantly. "Noted."

With that, they gathered their supplies and stepped out of the supermarket, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows across the road.

The walk back to the base would be long and miserable, but at least now, Liora had calmed down. She knew her anger was baseless, but who could blame her? She had never lived a life like this.

She would take time to adjust to her new life and had to endure the bullshit from other people and even bow her head in front of them because she was not powerful enough to face them.

And her temper was not making anything good for her. In her previous life, she was famous for her notorious temper. If her parents saw her now, they would be proud of her. She had finally learned to hold her temper... but at a cost. Liora felt her eyes stinging with tears.

Whenever the thought of her family crossed her mind, she always wanted to bawl her eyes out. Now she had even learned to cry like a baby. But alas, she had no shoulder to cry on.

Liora fell behind the group slightly, her eyes lowered to the ground as she felt her eyes burning more, and the tears could roll down her cheeks at any moment.

She did not want to cry in front of them. They would probably think that she was some pampered princess who was crying just because she did not get a ride.

Liora wiped her cheeks silently behind their backs and silently murmured that she would be strong and make her parents proud of her.

The trio was aware of Liora’s emotional breakdown, but they pretended that they did not see anything, as Liora was the kind of person who would not like anyone seeing her tears and might even freak out or deny everything. So it was better to just let her cry silently. Maybe she was missing her family and her life.

After all, life was really cruel to her, making her forget her past. She looked like a rich heiress from some major family. Her way of talking, her little emotions, her disgust at slightly unpleasant things, and the way she could not withstand hunger and foul smells.

Everything about her—the way she spoke, her subtle reactions, her distaste for anything unpleasant, and how poorly she handled hunger and foul smells—hinted that she had come from a wealthy background.

In a world where regular meals were a luxury only the rich could afford, it was clear that she had once lived a privileged life. Her family was probably out there somewhere, worrying about their lost daughter, just as she must have wondered who they were and if she would ever find them again.

Everyone’s mind was filled with different thoughts as they silently walked towards the base.
