The men rushed forward without thinking.

They did not attack one at a time. They were not that foolish. They all charged at Liora together. They wanted to overwhelm her. Their heavy boots pounded against the floor as their hands reached out to grab her. All their fists swung at the same time to knock her down.

But Liora was ready.

She ducked under the first punch. She shifted her weight and spun on her heel. She grabbed the attacker’s arm. She used his own force against him. She slammed him into another man. Both of them crashed to the floor on top of each other.

The third man swung a crowbar at her head, but Liora stepped aside. The metal missed her by mere inches. Before he could move again, she struck him hard. She drove her elbow into his ribs. A loud crack filled the air. His bones had probably broken.

Another man rushed at her from behind. Liora twisted in mid-air. She landed a sharp kick to his stomach. He flew backward and skidded across the dusty floor.

The four men lay sprawled out and groaned in pain. Even their groaning was in perfect sync.

Liora exhaled. She flicked her wrist. "Is that all?"

The leader’s face darkened. He was done waiting.

"You think you’re strong?" he sneered. "Let me show you real power."

The ground shook.

Thick roots burst through the floor. They shot up like snakes and started wrapping around Liora’s limbs. She could not even dodge in time.

"What—?!" Liora gasped as she struggled. But the vines tightened around her ankle and wrist.

The rough bark dug into her skin. The roots pinned her down. The sting burned through her arms and legs.

Zhou Yinuo yelped as the vines trapped her too. Her arms and legs were tied. She could not move.

Liora’s eyes widened. She could not believe it. This man was not just a thug. He was actually an Awakener. She had been too confident because she knew they were just a bunch of hooligans, and even with their physiques, they did not look much stronger.

But never in her dreams had she thought that an Awakener would be willing to rob and become a thug. In her mind, Awakeners were all respected, had stable homes and resources.

Who would have thought that one of those respected figures was actually a low-life hooligan chasing girls in the streets? Did the base know about this, or was there something she was unaware of? Because in her mind, there was a high chance that there must be a reason he was not from any base.

Attacking a person from another base was simply suicidal. There was a law that no base member could attack another base member, or it would start a war against them and ensure their base crumbled to dust.

And she had also not seen any permit card or ID card with him, and vice versa, he still did not stop when he looked at her ID. That meant her assumptions were correct, but not entirely, because this fucking asshole was actually an Awakener. Liora was not sure if she could fight an Awakener or not.

Her previous confidence slowly died and was replaced with regret. She should not have been this arrogant.

"System.... System?" She decided to call the system in her mind. It was her only option to get her out of this situation. But the system did not respond, and before she could call him again, the man walked closer to her. Her body became tense as she felt him nearing her.

The leader let out a low laugh. He walked forward as his boots resonated against the floor. His shadow loomed over her as he crouched down.

"Not so tough now, hmm, bitch?" he said.

He raised his foot and stomped down hard on her hand.

Pain shot through Liora’s fingers. She clenched her jaw but refused to cry out. The pain was so intense and the way he stomped on it again and again. Liora felt like she was losing her mind, and maybe her finger bones had been crushed by this fucking asshole.

The leader grinned. He enjoyed her struggling. "You were so proud a moment ago," he said. "Where is that proud little whore now?"

He pressed his foot down harder. Liora’s nails dug into the floor. She held back a curse.

Then, he smirked. He lifted his mud-filled boot and shoved it toward her face.

"Lick it."

The stench of dirt and sweat hit her. Her stomach turned.

That was the last straw.

She fucking hated dirty smells.

Before the leader could react, Liora twisted her wrist and snapped the roots. They shattered like dry twigs.

She moved fast as her hand shot out for him. She grabbed his ankle.

The man barely had time to react before...

BANG!

Liora hurled him backward.

His body crashed into a metal shelf. The impact sent the shelf and the useless junk on it tumbling down on him. The shelf groaned and tipped over him. A loud clang rang through the warehouse.

Blood dripped from the leader’s mouth. His head spun from the intense force

Liora wasted no time. She broke free. She ripped the vines off her limbs. She turned to Zhou Yinuo, and their eyes met.

Liora gestured toward the supply crates with her eyes. She did not need to say a word.

Zhou Yinuo nodded. She knew what to do. She could not fight. She would only get in the way. She slipped into the shadows and hid behind the stacks of supplies.

The leader groaned. He pushed himself up and wiped the blood from his lips. His fists clenched, and his eyes burned with rage.

He glared at Liora, his twisted face filled with anger and shame.

"You..." he growled. He spat out blood. "You dare to fight back?"

Liora wrinkled her nose in pure disgust. She wiped a smear of blood from her lip and scoffed.

"Oh, was I supposed to just take it? Damn, guess I fucking missed the memo. Next time, send me a goddamn formal invitation before trying to beat the shit out of me."

Even though she was nervous inside, she would never let him see it.
