Chapter 185: A Month of Growth
Chapter 185: Chapter 185: A Month of Growth
The cool mist of the forest curled around them like a living thing. Liora held Eli’s hand as they quietly walked deeper into the Misty Forest. The pale light of the moon filtered through the thick fog, giving the trees an eerie glow. It was silent, except for the crunching sound of dry leaves beneath their feet.
After returning from their last adventure, Liora had decided to bring Eli back into the Misty Forest. It was peaceful and rich in resources, and it would become their secret place to train, explore, and relax without anyone disturbing them.
As they walked deeper into the fog, Eli suddenly tugged on her sleeve. Liora looked down at him with a gentle smile. His face was serious. His usual playful eyes were now filled with hesitation, as if he was struggling to say something.
"Sister..." he whispered. His voice was soft and nervous.
"Hm? What is it, Eli?" Liora asked gently. She slowed her steps and knelt down so they were face to face.
There was a pause as Eli bit his lip. His small fists clenched at his sides. Then finally, he took a deep breath and spoke.
"I... I awakened my ability."
Liora’s eyes widened slightly, though she had expected this moment for some time. She had already noticed the strange things around Eli lately. Sometimes the way people seemed to listen to him more than usual. Sometimes how animals stayed calm when he was near.
She had suspected that Eli had awakened an ability, but she never forced him to speak about it. She had been waiting patiently for him to tell her when he was ready.
"You finally decided to tell me," Liora said softly, her voice filled with warmth. She reached out and brushed his hair aside. "I am very proud of you, Eli."
Eli’s face turned a little red but he nodded. "It’s called Mind Manipulation. But I can’t control it very well yet." He did not decide to tell her the extent of his power, only telling her little about it because he was afraid that if he told her that he could now easily control at least level 14 beasts, she might think he was some kind of strange child. If she remembers everything, he would not hesitate to tell her, but not now.
He did not want to see her eyes staring at him strangely just like other people stared at him when they found out that he had awakened a powerful ability from birth.
Liora was surprised. Mind Manipulation was a rare and powerful ability, even among awakeners she had never seen one. She gently pulled him into a hug.
"You’re doing very well to handle it this far," she whispered. "You don’t need to rush. I will help you train. We will master it together."
Eli hesitated for a moment, then suddenly looked up at her again.
He took a small pause before finishing. "The shadows you use... they are not just shadows. They are actually real souls who didn’t fully disappear after death, right?"
Liora was startled for a moment. She did not expect him to see through her secret so deeply. But Eli was always sharp. Much sharper than most adults around her.
She smiled gently. "You are correct. The shadows I command are souls who stayed in this world after death. My ability allows me to bond with them. They do not possess me, but they stay connected to me and help me."
Eli listened carefully, his young face full of curiosity and amazement.
That night, the two of them continued to wander the Misty Forest. They hunted nutrient-rich beasts and gathered rare herbs and plants. The Misty Forest was full of valuable resources that could not be found near the base. Every night had become their secret adventure together.
They worked side by side, fought together, laughed, and sometimes even competed on who would collect more crystals.
Liora watched Eli closely as he hunted. She could see that Eli was improving fast. Even though he was still a child, his control over his awakened ability was growing stronger each day. With her guidance and his natural talent, his progress amazed even her. If she could, she is progressing ten times faster than her. She really wondered, who would be his parents that actually gave birth to such a genius kid.
As the first light of dawn broke through the mist, both of them felt exhausted. They had gathered thousands of crystal cores and several bags of precious herbs. Liora activated the teleportation ball once again, and within seconds, they returned to the base.
Both of them were too tired to face anyone. Luckily, Zhou Yinuo had not been waiting for them at the entrance. Liora was secretly grateful. She really did not feel like explaining where they had gone or what they had been doing.
Silently, she carried the sleeping Eli to his bed, then went to her own room. They both slept deeply through the morning.
The days passed quickly. Soon, weeks turned into a full month.
During this time, Liora had been busy every day. She completed missions one after another. Whether it was clearing small mutated beast nests, protecting base residents, or finding supplies and rare herbs, Liora handled everything swiftly.
Every night, she still went into the Misty Forest with Eli. The forest became their secret training ground. She hunted, upgraded her abilities, and gathered resources. Through these nightly hunts, she managed to collect a large number of crystal cores, rare materials, and special items.
Her level increased steadily. By the end of the month, she had reached level 17. Eli also grew stronger. She did not know on which level he is, but he is definitely very powerful, maybe comparable to Xu Kai.
The man who looked harmless and had never shown his ability, Liora has a very strong feeling that the man was not simple at all. And maybe his ability is terrifying even more than hers. After all, his aura did not lie... it was too powerful even if he tried to control it around them, and most importantly she had noticed he also disappeared many times from the base, not even taking Yang Ming with him.
Back at the base, her hard work paid off. She finally upgraded her base to level 3.
