Chapter 186: Chapter 186: A Month of Growth (02)
The base had changed a lot. New buildings were constructed. The defensive walls were stronger. She even brought energy towers and automatic defense systems from the mall and installed them.
One night, while everyone was asleep, Liora quietly activated a new item from the lottery she was rewarded and she actually got a mill on the lucky draw. It was a milling machine that could process wheat into flour. She secretly set up the machine during the night to avoid drawing attention. By morning, it was fully running, and basically just like the canteen and other things, the residents thought their mysterious boss had prepared it for them.
When many new things started building day by day, people also grew curious and decided to stay awake to find just how such buildings could appear like that from nowhere. But surprisingly, they always fell asleep even though they did not want to, and the next day, just like before, a new building was created.
The wheat they had gathered from the forest was processed into flour, allowing them to bake buns, dumplings, and make new kinds of food. Everyone in the base was happy. The food variety increased, and the mood in the base grew lighter.
In that one month, nearly 200 more survivors had arrived at her base. The population rose to nearly 400 people. With the growing population, more missions became available. Liora completed several high-level missions that earned her rare rewards and important items.
Her convenience store system also upgraded. She opened two new product slots. The first was compressed biscuits, which were high in nutrition and easy to store. The second was energy chocolate bars, which could quickly restore stamina.
On top of that, she had completed a side mission that rewarded her with a rare upgrade core. After using it, the convenience store was also upgraded to level 2 and the production speed increased greatly. Now, it could produce goods 300 per week faster every week.
The base was thriving. The people trusted her more. The defense was strong. Food was stable. Supplies were constantly increasing.
With the base growing stronger each day, Liora knew it was time to build new facilities. They had enough people now. More residents meant more needs. Food, medicine, and proper care were becoming more important than ever.
The first thing she built was a clinic.
Mei and Old Zhou were the first ones to step forward to manage it. Both of them had experience in medicine and healing. Mei handled most of the treatment and patient care. Old Zhou helped prepare medicine and managed the supplies. Along with them, a young boy who had awakened a minor healing ability also joined the team. Together, they took care of injured residents, treated illnesses, and gave regular check-ups to everyone.
The clinic was not very large but it was well-equipped. Liora had bought many medical tools, herbs, and supplies from the system mall.
After the clinic was running smoothly, Liora moved to her next plan. She wanted to grow their own food.
Until now, they had relied on gathered supplies, forest resources, and the convenience store products. But she knew they needed something stable and renewable. She opened a small plot of land beside the main base walls and started a small farm.
Several people stepped up to help without hesitation. Some had awakened plant abilities, water abilities, and soil abilities. Their powers made the farming process much easier. Along with them, many ordinary survivors who had farming experience volunteered too.
Among them was the man who had once rushed into the wheat field in excitement when he saw it for the first time. He naturally joined the farming group. Yan Lin and Ling Zihan also offered to help. They had never done real farming before but were willing to learn and work hard.
Liora purchased many types of seeds, fertilizers, and farming tools from the system mall. She even thought about using the special soil from the forest behind the base because it had cultivated many rare plants. But when she tried to bring the soil back, its vitality disappeared the moment they left the forest boundary. The idea failed. So she dropped that plan and used the items from the mall instead.
Slowly, the small farmland started to grow. Vegetables sprouted, green leaves covered the ground, and rows of healthy crops began to fill the space. It was not large but it was enough to support the base with fresh food. The residents were happy. For many of them, seeing fresh vegetables after so long in the apocalypse felt like a luxury.
Now, the base had five functional buildings. The clinic and the farmland counted as well because even though the farm was not a building, it was fully functional and vital to the base’s growth.
At the same time, Liora continued working on her system missions.
Her convenience store was upgraded. She had increased the output to three hundred units per week by upgrading the factory and completing side missions.
She also completed two advanced production tasks. One focused on food, where she mass-produced dried meat and preserved vegetables. The second task produced large quantities of medical kits which basically have some healing ointment and a few bottles of level 1 potion for the clinic. Each task yielded more than one hundred units, meeting the mission requirements.
During these thirty days, no deaths, disappearances, or accidents happened in the base. Every resident was healthy and safe. Thanks to Mei and Old Zhou, even small illnesses were treated quickly. The survival rate stayed at one hundred percent.
With all requirements completed, her system notified her that the base was ready for the next upgrade.
However, Liora knew the upgrading process would once again shake the ground. She did not want to alarm the residents with another sudden earthquake. Many of them were already confused by how new buildings kept appearing overnight. Some had even tried to stay awake, hoping to see how these buildings were being built. But strangely, no matter how hard they tried, they always fell into deep sleep before anything happened. The system made sure of it.
Now, for this major upgrade, Liora directly contacted the system. She requested the system to put the entire base into a deep sleep during the upgrade process. The system agreed. On the chosen night, everyone fell asleep peacefully. Even those who tried to fight the drowsiness could not resist it.
With the residents asleep, the system activated the upgrade quietly.
Her base had finally reached level three.
The rewards arrived as promised. She received the level three upgrade license, six hundred experience points, blueprints for a sentinel tower, five packets of aether vegetable seeds, and two rare-grade special lottery tickets.
Looking at the upgraded base, Liora felt satisfied. The defenses were stronger. The people were safe. Food production had started. Medicine was fully supplied. The clinic was running smoothly. Farming was steady. Even she successfully upgraded her level.
