Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive -
Chapter 208: Ye Xuan’s Threat
Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Ye Xuan’s Threat
Before the shock could sink, he saw Ye Xuan appear in his scope also walking on the surface of the water with dry hair, dry clothes, and equally dry shoes.
’He can walk on water too?’ That was his next thought.
What kind of people had they met? Exactly how powerful are they? He was now glad that he never had any malicious intent towards these two otherwise he could imagine with this kind of power what would happen.
At that moment, he made the same decision as the Zhao family, to be loyal to the Chu family and Ye Xuan and never, ever even think of betraying them.
Before his heart to settle back into its rightful place, he witnessed another scene that made him drop the binoculars for real.
Chu Miao waved her hand and a yacht appeared in front of her. A whole yacht with a deck, cabins, and everything was sitting on the water right in front of his eyes.
Not in the sea or the ocean, but in the flood water in a city!
Bending down slowly, he picked up the binoculars and brought them to his eyes. He had even forgotten about his plan to follow them. He doubted he could be of any use following them with his emotions running everywhere.
He needed time to absorb everything he had just seen and calm down. Moreover, since these people had hidden the things he had just witnessed, he also had to keep it a secret and not tell a single soul.
He thought that he was lucky and the two didn’t notice him.
Seeing Chu Miao walk ahead and get on the yacht, Ye Xuan followed behind her. He was about to breathe a sigh of relief that they hadn’t noticed him when Ye Xuan, with one foot on the yacht turned his head around and looked at the window he was standing by accurately.
His breathing hitched. Indeed, as the youngest Major General in the country, how could he fail to notice someone watching him for so long?
He could see Ye Xuan’s sharp eyes accurately through the magnification of the binoculars. Those eyes spoke of danger and pain if what he witnessed leaked.
Yang Leo didn’t need to be told twice. That was a secret he would take to his grave.
After the yacht left, he turned around and lowered his body to the floor. His legs were too weak to walk. Not even the short distance of two meters to his bed.
Thinking of what he had just seen, it looked like Chu Hao wasn’t the only one with space power. But thinking of the light power he saw when Chu Miao attacked that man together with her brother, then thinking of her teleportation, he wondered just how many superpowers she had awakened.
He also didn’t understand what kind of power she and Ye Xuan had used to float on water.
He stopped thinking because if he continued, he wouldn’t be able to remain sane. After all, all he thought about was Chu Miao’s power and he hadn’t analyzed Ye Xuan’s. If he did, he might go crazy.
Ye Xuan didn’t mention Yang Leo to Chu Miao. He believed that Yang Leo was a smart man who would do what was best for everyone. So, he didn’t need to worry about him leaking information.
But this was also a lesson. Until they were strong enough to counter everything, they had to be careful.
Ye Xuan walked straight to the helm of the yacht with Chu Miao following behind him. He pressed a few buttons, checked the engine and the other apparatus to make sure they were working properly before bringing the engine to life.
He pulled the throttle, and the yacht jerked, then it smoothly moved forward. He took the wheel and steered the yacht in the direction of the outskirts of the city.
Navigating the yacht within the city, even when it lay in ruin, wasn’t going to be easy. As the engine hummed steadily, he used his excellent memory to navigate the yacht out of their community and headed in the west direction of the city.
That was the exit that led to Jianchen. Because of the flood waters, they couldn’t follow the roads like driving a car, so Chu Miao sat beside her boyfriend with a tablet in hand and an electronic map of the city displayed on it.
She was studying it seriously to determine what the best route was that would prevent them from facing too many obstacles.
"For now, follow the huge corridor of empty space between the still visible buildings until we leave the central business district. That is a highway and there won’t be too many issues like fallen or submerged buildings. But beware of abandoned cars below. Make sure to check the radar. I need to study this map for a few minutes before we exit the city." Chu Miao said to Ye Xuan as she bent over her tablet to get busy.
Ye Xuan didn’t look at her but hummed in response. Not that he was ignoring her but just as she said, there were too many abandoned cars on the road and he needed to concentrate on avoiding them.
He couldn’t be as carefree as he usually was on missions as he had his beloved on board and he had to protect her.
Narrowing his eyes, he tightened his hold on the wheel and maneuvered through this chaotic expanse that used to be the capital city of one of the greatest nations in the world.
It was no longer a bustling city, flood waters had submerged some low buildings while high-rise office buildings and malls were swimming in water up to the third or fourth floor, depending on how low or high the first floor was.
Roads and cars had been swallowed and street signs and advertisement boards could barely be seen poking through the water surface. Tree tops were swaying eerily like ghostly seaweed.
One could barely recognize this city. Just a month and half ago, he was sitting on the top floor of one of the tallest buildings in the city controlling part of the economy of this country. But now that building could only be said to be one of those that hadn’t flooded too much.
Life was really unpredictable.
Leaving the city business district behind, Ye Xuan carefully steered the yacht around the protruding skeletons of already submerged structures’ rooftops, power poles, and the occasional balcony railing that floated past.
There was debris drifting in the water, broken furniture, and even shards of glass and some ghostly shapes of capsized cars could be seen as the yacht moved with Ye Xuan’s steering to avoid collision.
This was the first time he had seen something so devastating. Even after the apocalypse began, they had been training in areas close to their community. They had never gone outside the city. With the flood carrying most of the loose things that had been destroyed, the situation was magnified.
This wasn’t something anyone would want to see.
Chu Miao could feel the shift in his mood and seeing the devastating sight, even she felt her heart ache, but they could do nothing for now. They could only help to the best of their abilities. Like now how they were braving the rain and all this chaos to pick up new team members so that they could expand their team and grow.
This way, they could fight the apocalypse better. Chu Miao held his arm and squeezed it a little as if to tell him that he wasn’t alone.
Ye Xuan took a deep breath and reassured her, "I am fine. Don’t worry."
As soon as they left the city, Chu Miao started to help with the navigation.
"We are approaching the west side of the city, the structures there are very low and most likely submerged with significant wreckage. Move towards the signal tower and navigate about ten meters to its left. It is the only landmark left visible. The walls surrounding it are low and won’t hinder the yacht. Also, on the other side there are low-roofed street stalls. Those won’t hinder us either." Chu Miao instructed Ye Xuan as she kept looking at the map.
As they left the drowned city stretching behind them, Chu Miao felt her heart become heavy. She wondered how many survivors who had avoided turning into zombies had ended up drowning.
As they passed the partially submerged signal tower, a shiver of unease ran through them.
