Chapter 209: Chapter 209: Surrounded in the Water
That was a sign of danger. However, looking at the expanse of dirty water covering every inch of land in and outside the city, they couldn’t figure out what could threaten them.
Chu Miao remembered the feeling she had the previous day when they were collecting supplies. She felt like something dangerous was hiding in the dark.
It was undetectable by divine sense, or maybe her divine sense wasn’t strong enough yet.
But for something to give her that kind of unease, it had to be significant. She started to scan the waters with her divine sense immediately and found that about fifty meters on all sides, there were huge lumps that were almost unrecognizable.
At first she couldn’t tell what it was, but as the boat was moving fast, it covered the fifty meters ahead before she could warn Ye Xuan.
The radar showed some movement but couldn’t make out what was below. As they got closer, Chu Miao finally got a clear view.
She had never seen such a big leech before. Yes, there were dense and oversized leeches in the water and at that time they were attacking the boat.
To her surprise, with one attack, the boat almost turned over. This was a yacht, not some small boat, but these things had the strength to turn it.
She covered her eyes with spiritual energy and walked to the deck then looked below to see what was happening only to find a small dent on the side, right below the water surface.
It was like the leeches had concentrated their power and aimed at one spot. And what shocked her further was that they kept attacking.
She realized that if they didn’t take action a hole would be pierced into the yacht soon. Surprisingly, the leeches were attacking in a coordinated manner. Almost as if someone was commanding them. This was more bizarre than coordinating zombies.
She gathered spiritual energy in her hand and used light elements to attack them.
The group of leeches at the front all turned to dust and dissolved in the water. However, instead of the others retreating in the face of danger, they moved forward and attacked the boat more fervouredly.
Only then did she confirm that there was something wrong with these leeches. They didn’t behave like normal mutated animals, because they would have a sense of danger and flee if the enemy was too strong.
Something similar to what those mutated fish did. But these looked more like controlled tools. Thinking of that feeling yesterday and what she felt a while ago, she decided to use her light energy to attack and not expose any other ability.
It felt like someone or something was doing this on purpose to test her level of strength. She couldn’t expose all her trump cards.
Also, she needed to read more books once she went back home to understand if there was something that could be used to block the detection of divine sense.
She didn’t believe that she wouldn’t find what or who was hiding in the dark.
Ye Xuan was still in the helm controlling the yacht and navigating it to avoid most of the attacks but he then realized that they were moving little by little off course.
"Miaoer, can you take care of them alone or should I come and help? These things are driving us off course." He called out to Chu Miao as soon as he made this realization.
"Don’t worry, I’ll take care of them. Just concentrate on moving forward. I’ll steer us back on course." She replied as she now realized that the enemy wasn’t just testing her strength, they probably wanted to lead them into their territory and attack.
Since she didn’t know what they would find there, she wasn’t conceited enough to think that her strength could protect her in every way.
What if it was a place that sealed the spiritual power or affected movement. She wouldn’t take such a risk, especially since she wasn’t alone.
She stood on the deck and closed her eyes to concentrate. Extending her divine sense up to a kilometer in every direction, she found a large number of leeches and rats.
’What were rats doing in the water?’ That was her first thought, then remembering the behavior of the leeches previously, she concluded that these were probably zombies not mutated animals.
In that case, an even stronger zombie was controlling them. She didn’t want to start analyzing this problem for now as her first priority was to get out of there.
Her arms outstretched as if she was feeling the flow of the wind, she suddenly burst out with a bright light that spread in every direction in the water.
Starting from where the boat was, a curtain of light standing at two meters tall swept everything in its way.
Leaches, rats, some fish, and any other creature in the water turned into ashes that dissolved in the water and disappeared forever.
Even the debris floating on the water surface, collapsed structures, and submerged trees were disintegrated.
The water within a kilometer became as clear as spring water. One could see the stalls and roads below that had not been in the attack range of the light energy.
It was like a large-scale cleansing that purified not only the water, but also the very air they breathe.
Ye Xuan was astonished by this scene. He had never expected that his girlfriend had that kind of power.
Unfortunately, the attack had drained Chu Miao completely. There was only a small amount of spiritual energy left in her dantian that couldn’t even kill a level one Qi refinement.
She didn’t want to expose her abilities or secrets to whoever was watching. But she assumed that her attack must have deterred them.
She used the last bit of energy to look imposing as she walked back into the boat from the deck.
The unease from earlier had disappeared, which showed that whoever or whatever that had been watching and targeting them was gone.
Chu Miao collapsed on a chair in the helm of the yacht and took out a spirit returning pill from the soul ring and popped it into her mouth.
Ye Xuan became worried when he saw her in that state and put the boat in idle before walking to her and hugging her.
"That was dangerous. You shouldn’t have made such a large scale attack. What if something happened to you? What would I do?" Even though he was reprimanding her, there was no blame in his tone, only heartache.
"You must have realized that something seems to be watching us, as if hunting us. I had to do something to deter them.
This should give us some time to cultivate and advance.
Whatever it is, it’s dangerous. It was the same thing I felt yesterday when we were in that district collecting supplies.
Now it had tracked us all the way out of the city. It must already know where we live.
I can’t take a risk. I just need one pill to recover my spiritual energy, don’t worry about me." Chu Miao explained her decision to Ye Xuan because she believed that transparency in a relationship was important.
"Alright, cultivate and recover your strength then, I can navigate alone." Ye Xuan took a deep breath and accepted her logic.
He was aware that something was in the dark, watching them and probably planning something while they were in the light. Taking a calculated risk to buy some time was worth it.
While Chu Miao meditated and recovered, about ten kilometers from their position, a piercing animalistic scream broke through the walls of a tall building half submerged in flood water.
However, Ye Xuan and Chu Miao were already heading towards their destination without any obstacles.
They had no knowledge of the entity that had suffered backlash from Chu Miao’s earlier attack.
