Chapter 180: Shorekeeper City
Chapter 180: Shorekeeper City
"I prefer not to hide, I am not a hero, I never wanted to be one, I hate humanity, I always have, but despite all this, there is nothing that requires me to hate other races. So if I can even slightly help those people take a step forward, if I can help them feel the desire to live again, then that means I am alive."When Atlas finished speaking, Iso couldn’t help but swallow hard. He had finally understood why the young man in front of him had stolen Cordelia’s heart, why all the Sages loved him so much that they worshipped him.
Still, Iso had one more question...
"But... Sir, what if you fail?" Iso asked with curious eyes.
Atlas struggled not to laugh when he heard the question, but eventually burst into laughter:
"Puhaha!! Come on, Iso! Isn’t the answer obvious? At least I’ll have tried!" Atlas said, laughing.
Iso couldn’t take it anymore and, after letting out a few giggles, bowed before Atlas and returned to his room.
All that was left now was to wait.
Three days had passed, and Atlas and the group had been in the village for five days, and now it was the sixth day.
"Sir, everyone has agreed, but we dare to make one request," Kai said suddenly, looking at Atlas in front of the whole village and asking the question.
Although the whole group looked calmly around, Iso looked angry. In Iso’s mind, Kai’s boldness was a crime. If the person he had been so bold with had been Lady Cassandra herself, Iso would have definitely cut off Kai’s head.
However, since the person in question was Atlas and not Cordelia, she chose to remain calm and only get angry inside.
"A condition?" Atlas asked with great curiosity.
At Atlas’ question, Kai shook his head and then calmly said, "We are a small town of four hundred people. We have almost 100 families. If you are going to give me the position of assistant leader, I ask that you also provide jobs and homes for the rest of the town. If you accept this, we will follow you. We will leave the town that has been in this region for generations and come with you."
When Atlas heard these words, he shook his head from side to side and then said, "Did you think I would leave you homeless? Why would I call you then? There are already over two hundred thousand people ready to stay in Shorekeeper City. Not only that, but Cassandra and the tens of thousands of vampires under her command will also stay in the city. Do you think I’m so helpless that I can’t give you houses, Kai?!"
Even Atlas himself felt humiliated.
When he said these words, Kai knelt down again and said, "Thank you, sir. Please lead us!" Atlas’s anger did not prevent Kai from wanting to thank him.
Nevertheless, the preparation process had begun in earnest. The entire village had already prepared themselves. They had assumed that they could definitely move to Shorekeeper City because Atlas himself had invited them. Each of them simply wanted to be certain of their thoughts and had practically begged Kai.
Nearly half a day later, nearly a hundred horse-drawn carts appeared out of nowhere, brought forth by Juliet, and the relocation process had begun.
After only three days, the huge group had reached the outermost point of the city, the first wall built by Cassandra.
The city wall guards saluted as soon as they saw the coat of arms on the front of the group’s carriage. Atlas and the others immediately got out of the carriage, and Atlas calmly greeted the guards.
Both guards were elves. They were tall and had unusually large bodies for elves.
Atlas then turned to Iso and said, "Iso, place Kai and the others in the houses in the area I told you about. I trust you."
Iso nodded in agreement, and dozens of horse-drawn carriages entered the city, leaving only Atlas and the group behind.
Atlas entered through the massive city gates with slow steps. As soon as he entered the city gates, he could see the distant mountain more clearly. Beyond the cliff where the city walls converged, stretching as far as the eye could see, was a mountain, and atop that mountain was a truly MASSIVE palace.
The palace was made of pure white marble, with black and purple decorations that resembled Nyx’s gaze. This was the very palace of Shadowfall, the first and only palace of Atlas Shorekeeper, the First Duke of the Fourth Duchy of the Epsilon Empire, designed by Cassandra herself.
Atlas began to gaze at his palace as if he had fallen in love with it, without even looking at the houses behind the walls.
He could see the thousands of steps leading up to the palace from the mountain. He could see the torches burning brightly along the paths, despite the heavy snowfall. He could see the massive Shorekeeper crest carved into the enormous mountain.
It was truly a work of perfection. Cassandra had created a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
When Atlas looked around, he saw the beauty of the roads. He saw the statues of himself and his sister Eva standing at the very entrance to the city as if to say that those entering the city would always be watched by them.
He saw dozens of ordinary people of different races walking around the city, laughing and having fun.
Over two hundred thousand people, consisting of slaves from various backgrounds such as former sex slaves, labourers, and many others, had already begun living in this city, and even if Atlas did not notice, millions more would come to live here in the future.
Each of the 7 Sages and their leader, Duke Shorekeeper himself, who resided in the grand Shadowfall Palace... He would watch over millions of them like the apple of his eye.
"So... This is Shorekeeper City."
