Chapter 179: Join The City
When Atlas heard this question, he smiled and replied, "Because you are alive. You continue your life in a small town without even thinking about what could happen at any moment. It’s a dangerous situation, truly dangerous. At any moment, a higher-level monster could appear out of nowhere. What will you do then?"
He wasn’t wrong. After all, this wasn’t an unprecedented event. Still, thanks to the strength of the warriors in the town, even if the monster couldn’t be killed, it could be driven back.
"So what should we do? We know you’re a duke. How can we find work in a place that could become a major city, and perhaps even surpass the capital in value?" Kai asked.
When Atlas heard this question, he looked at Kai with a puzzled expression. It seemed that Kai’s inability to understand what Atlas was trying to say had disappointed him.
It seemed like a deeper discussion on this topic was needed.
"Kai. What I want is different from what you think. You know, the city I want to build is much more magnificent than you can imagine. It will be more splendid than the buildings in Cordelia’s construction plan, a city that glows with power on every side," Atlas said suddenly.
As Kai tried to understand what he was trying to say, Atlas stopped looking at the painting he was watching and looked at Kai, saying:
"I want to divide the city into several parts. There will be no separation between the nobles and the commoners. Even if there are differences in rank and status, there will be areas where they can all be together within the city. One part for blacksmithing, another for duels, another for the hunters’ guild, and the other parts for other communities."
After these words, Atlas smiled broadly. The brightness and honesty in his eyes were truly remarkable. It didn’t take a genius to understand that what he was saying was what he really wanted. All it took was a little bit of brainpower and the ability to think.
"If you wish to come with me and there are a few people in the village as talented as you, I would like to offer you the position of assistant leader of the arts district," Atlas said, then fell silent.
As soon as Atlas closed his mouth, Kai fell to his knees and bowed his head in submission. The young man’s body was trembling. He couldn’t even imagine how many people might have wanted to accept the offer he had just received a few seconds ago.
What could he say? Perhaps Kai should kneel down and beg for forgiveness for what he thought he had done. Perhaps Kai should kneel because Atlas had offered to help him, given the possibility of his daughter being lost, and even worship him to the point of licking his shoes.
Atlas was simply like a god in Kai’s eyes. Even with just one glance, he was like a mountain ready to collapse. Even if his power was not as high as that of the Sages, he shone just as brightly as they did.
"If the townspeople want it, we will follow you, sir... Please stay here a little longer. I will do my best to convince them." Kai said suddenly, stood up, and left the house immediately.
At the same time, Atlas turned to the closed door on his right and, without waiting even a second, said, "It’s not a good thing to eavesdrop on others, Iso."
With that, the closed door opened, and Iso came out and looked at Atlas.
"Sir. It’s been two days since we arrived here. Even if their karma is positive, are you sure you’re not making a mistake by trusting others so much?" Iso asked suddenly.
When Atlas heard these words, he shook his head. Cassandra, Juliet, and Irene, who were listening to the two from the other room, were well aware of this, but Atlas had decided to answer Iso as innocently as possible.
"Iso. Do you know what I’ve learned throughout my entire life and beyond?" Atlas asked suddenly.
Iso, though not quite understanding the meaning of the word ’beyond,’ asked curiously, "What, sir?"
Atlas smiled at Iso and said the following words:
"Many people suffer greatly, regardless of their race. They cannot break free from the cages their own minds have placed them in. Yet, if you take a step forward despite all this, if you show them how the sun shines on your face while their shadows cover them if you manage to explain to them that their shadows can be as vast as yours... Each of them will understand how they have kept the stars hidden within their shadows throughout their entire lives."
After uttering these words, Atlas closed his eyes and took a deep breath, then opened his eyes and looked into Iso’s eyes.
Iso saw that Atlas’s eyes were shining.
"I prefer not to hide. I am not a hero, I never wanted to be one, I hate humanity, and always have, but despite all that, there is nothing that requires me to hate other races. So if I can even slightly understand, if I can help those people take a step forward, if I can help them fill themselves with the desire to live once more, then that means I am alive."
When Atlas finished speaking, Iso couldn’t help but swallow hard. He had finally understood why the young man in front of him had stolen Cordelia’s heart, why all the Sages loved him so much they worshipped him.
Still, there was one more question on Iso’s mind...
"But... Sir, what if you fail?" Iso asked with curious eyes.
When Atlas heard this question, he struggled to keep from laughing, but eventually burst out laughing:
"Puhaha!! Come on, Iso! Isn’t the answer obvious? At least I’ll have tried!" Atlas said, laughing.
Iso couldn’t take it anymore and, after letting out a few giggles, bowed in front of Atlas and then returned to his room.
All that was left now was to wait.
