Chapter 134: Elena
Chapter 134: Elena
An office at the very center of the academy, clean and set up in a very minimalist style, a table at the center, with files and books staged on it, and on the chair behind it was Elena who had a file in her hand. She read through the file, her eyes moving left to right.
Knock knock.
Two knocks resounded on the door. She paused, looked at the door and let out a small sigh.
"Come in," she said in a casual tone.
The door slowly opened and Sally walked in. She was in her human form. "Headmistress, the entire academy is under attack. Quin and the other instructors have been battling them for hours now," Sally said in a rushed tone.
"Cut the chat, Sally. Did you really think that would work?" Elena asked. She dropped the file on the table and leaned back on her chair.
"I guess it was a waste to try and lie to you," Sally said.
"The fact that you are here means Quin failed to kill you. You must have escaped," Elena said.
"Failed to kill me? What if I actually killed him and came here?" Sally asked.
"Kill Quin? Someone like you can only dream of killing Quin. You know what, you’d probably die by his hands in that same dream," Elena said.
"You bitch, you’re underestimating me?" Sally roared.
"Not at all, Sally. I acknowledge you, to be honest—being able to set this whole thing up under my nose, it’s admirable.
But killing Quin? That’s a dream amongst dreams," Elena said.
"I’ll kill him. After I’m done here, I’ll go and cut his head off," Sally said.
"Leave here? Now that’s wistful thinking. The demons sent you, and you are indeed quite strong, but you got carried away.
I can tell by the timing of when this attack started that it wasn’t supposed to be this early. Someone spoiled your plan, and now all you’re doing is simply a makeshift version that you rushed through to make it happen.
And due to that, you have made many mistakes, one of which was coming into my office," Elena said. There was a light smile on her face as she spoke.
"It doesn’t matter what you say. Hundreds of your students will die while you sit here and do nothing," Sally said.
"Oh, but I’m not sitting here and doing nothing. And yes, students are dying and getting injured, but that’s all normal in such an attack.
You have given us just what was needed to attack Sapphire. You know, many noble houses have been against a war with Sapphire, especially now that we are fighting the demonized, but you finally gave us the opportunity.
For long, we had already known that Sapphire was in cahoots with the demons, but the opportunity never presented itself. I won’t bore you with the details of how this was planned out.
But you already know that the majority of the population of this academy is made up of nobles, and now their children are getting injured, and a few deaths have happened, giving us enough reason to attack and making sure that all the nobles will support us," Elena said.
Shock showed on Sally’s face. Her eyes widened and so did her mouth. She looked at Elena with disbelief. "You? You would risk the lives of your students in order to push a war?
You are not human. How can you even do that? Shouldn’t you be up and out to protect them?" Sally asked.
"Of course, we have to protect the students. I have to protect them. I don’t want danger to befall any one of them.
But what you demons have done, and the damage you have caused, the lives you have taken—I weighed them all, and I decided that a path must be taken, and some lives must be lost in order to make sure that Sapphire goes down," Elena explained.
She got up from her chair. "But I think you have done enough damage for now. The fourth years will be working with the instructors to clear up the demonized," Elena said.
"The fourth years? Weren’t they all out of the academy to gather real-life experience?" Sally asked.
"Oh, they came back. They just came back. I’m sure you were supposed to make a barrier, but your plan has been moving slower," Elena said and smiled.
"A particular student has been slowing down your plans, right? The first-year Rank One, Riven Von Grave. Honestly, that kid is something else. It’s like he knew where you would be.
I watched him delay the demonized, giving everyone time to get ready, and that act alone sabotaged your plan. That and your dumb helpers."
"You’re talking a lot, Elena. I think it’s time I kill you," Sally said and rushed toward Elena.
"Dumb," Elena muttered. She tapped her foot on the ground. A magical formation formed on the ground and the gravity around Sally instantly doubled and slammed her into the ground.
"Have you forgotten the fact that I’m untouchable inside my academy?" Elena asked.
"That’s left to be seen," Sally said, pushing herself up with all her strength. She managed to get back on her feet despite the pressure and started approaching slowly.
Elena smiled as she watched her desperate attempt. She tapped her foot on the ground again and the gravity doubled. Sally was immediately sent to her knees, the ground beneath her cracking.
Elena walked up to Sally. She looked at her as she struggled down there. "Don’t you get it? Your plan is a failure, and you have aided us in having a reason to go against Sapphire. Well done," Elena said.
But Sally wasn’t broken after hearing that. Instead, she had a smile on her face. Putting all her strength into one arm, she took out a small black shard she had been hiding and stabbed it right into Elena’s leg.
Elena was stunned. She immediately tried to kick Sally, but then an energy shot through her body, trying to take over. She immediately started battling the energy, but it wasn’t working as well as she wanted.
She had to focus and channel her mana right to diffuse that energy, and this forced her to deactivate the formation on the ground and also drop her guard.
"Haha haha haha hahah," Sally burst into uncontrollable laughter. "You fell right into my trap.
It’s a known fact that the headmaster is a god within their academy, but even gods can be brought down.
That thing you feel now—it’s demonic energy. It’s not strong enough to transform you, but give it a lot of time and it will work.
Your mana is potent enough to destroy it, but before you can, I’ll make sure I chop you into a hundred pieces and throw your body for pigs to step on," Sally said. She drew her sword and attacked with a smirk plastered on her face.
She slashed downward. Elena saw the blade. She lifted her hand and blocked the attack. The blade hit her wrist.
Clang.
Sally saw a metal bracelet that was on Elena’s arm and it had blocked the attack. The bracelet was covered in runes that lit up when the attack landed and released a force twice as strong, hitting Sally and sending her flying.
"If you believe that because of some demonic energy you would come and kill me that easily, then you have another thing coming, Sally," Elena said.
"Just die already," Sally yelled and attacked. She pushed off the wall and came in faster, attacking with another slash. Elena blocked the attack; the ground beneath her cracked.
Sally moved out of the way fast enough to avoid the blast, and then she stabbed for Elena’s lower body. The sword dug in and blood spilled.
Right now, Elena couldn’t give her all to this fight because of the demonic energy, but she was still trying her best to stop Sally.
Seeing that she had been stabbed, Elena decided to do something crazy. She allowed the demonic energy to rage while she used wind magic, and with a powerful gust of wind, she sent Sally into the wall, cracking the wall. Then she activated the formation in her office and Sally was pinned to the wall.
"Huh? What did you do? Let me go now!" Sally yelled.
"Even if this energy takes control of my body, I’ll be killing you here, Sally. Here and now for sure," Elena said.
"No, no, no! This wasn’t how it was meant to be!" Sally yelled. Elena didn’t care. She harnessed her mana and created a wind drill around her hand. She charged toward Sally to end her.
Sally activated the same escape formation she had used with Quin. She managed to teleport just before the wind drill hit the wall and exploded it into bits.
Sally reappeared on the roof, thinking she had managed to get away from death now, but as she looked up, she saw none other than Quin sitting there, looking at the sun.
"You thought you could get away?" he asked.
