Chapter 135: With a staff
Sally froze when she saw Quin there. She took a step back, tripped on her own foot, and fell to her butt. She kept her eyes locked on him; she dared not look away.
"You felt good, right?" Quinn suddenly spoke. He glanced at her, no expression on his face, just an empty blank look that said nothing about what he was thinking.
"What are you talking about?" she gathered herself and asked.
"I’m just asking. It felt good being able to make a plan and execute it, with the belief that you would be taking over the academy, right?" he asked, looking at her again.
She had no response. She simply stared at him, her mind racing, thinking of ways that she could handle the issue she had found herself in.
"Sigh, you were good, as a teacher, as a role model," he said. He pushed himself up, standing on the roof and looking at her.
"I never really have wishes or prayers, but I honestly wish you weren’t what you are. But sadly, such miracles don’t happen," he said in a just tone. But she could hear it. He pulled his sword and pointed at her.
"Time to go," he said. She tried to get up, tried to run, but everywhere suddenly went dark. The light faded as her head bounced on the roof, rolling all the way to the edge of the roof and falling off.
He walked to the side of the roof and watched her head hit the ground and splatter.
A massive demonized rushed through the hallway, headed for Riven and Noel. They had been through so many battles with demonized at this point, their entire bodies ached. Riven was vomiting blood every few minutes.
The demonized ran on all fours, moving extremely fast. Riven looked at Noel, and Noel looked back at him. They nodded at each other, about to give it their all and defeat this thing.
It lunged at Riven first. He didn’t dodge; he stood, ready to take it head-on. The demonized slashed from above, its claws leaving afterimages.
Riven stepped to the side and parried the claws. His entire arm went numb as he did that. Blood gushed out of his mouth; he fought to keep his consciousness.
As soon as he parried it and created an opening, Noel attacked. He pushed in with shocking speed, leaped into the air, his blade coated in lightning. He slashed down with all his strength, but the demonized was fast to react. It leapt backward and dodged the attack.
The blade dug into the ground. Boom, an explosion happened as it tore through the floor. ’It dodged, how did it dodge so fast?’ Noel wondered.
The demonized attacked again, pushing forward to attack Noel, but Riven intercepted, using flame blast at point-blank range.
The demonized roared in pain and immediately began thrashing around. Its claws dug into the wall and the ground. Luckily, Riven and Noel were able to avoid all the attacks.
Riven was running out of ideas at this point. He was weak, broken. He was in so much pain that it took all his brainpower to make sure that he was thinking straight.
"Do you two need some help?" Suddenly someone came from behind. His footsteps echoed inside the hall. Clack clack.
He was a tall boy, at least seventeen in age. His hair was a dark silvery color and it matched his eyes. His uniform was clean and very well taken care of.
In his hand was a wooden staff—not a magical one—a simple straight staff, black with golden tips on either side.
"I was shot very—when I was asked to the academy—because of an attack. If the academy had Quin, the instructors, as well as the headmistress, no attack should be worth the trouble.
But coming back now and seeing it, I understand where the whole panic was coming from." He spoke in a casual tone, not caring if anyone was actually listening to him.
The demonized saw the new figure that had arrived and immediately locked on it as the next target. It rushed toward him.
The boy smirked. He lifted his staff a few inches off the ground and then stamped it on the ground, sending out a wave that caused the floor to tremble and crack.
The cracks spread all around, but one particular crack shot toward the demonized, and when it got to the demonized, a sharp earth spike shot out of the ground and stabbed the demonized right through the shoulder.
It let out a horrendous cry of pain and struggled to pull itself off the spike. The boy dashed forward—he was so fast that Riven couldn’t even keep up with his eyes.
The boy jumped, kicked against a wall, twisted in the air, and struck down with his staff.
Bam.
The staff collided with the head of the demonized so hard that it sounded like a door had been slammed shut.
The demonized went downward, the spike digging deeper into its body as it slammed into the ground.
The boy stood over it, waiting for it to get back up. The demonized went into a rage, getting up ferociously and breaking the spike while it was still in its body.
It pounced on the boy, its jaws wide open to bite.
"Hmph, that’s not happening," the boy said. He took a quick step back, and a large stone pillar shot out of the ground, and the demonized bit into it.
The stone wall crumbled. Before it could regain itself, the boy came in swinging. His staff slammed into its head so hard that it bent like it would break.
He followed up with a barrage of aggressive attacks. The demonized tried to fight back, but it couldn’t. Attack after attack, it was pushed back and down into submission, yet the boy didn’t stop, beating it even more until the demonized finally stopped moving.
It was dead on the ground. He poked it with the staff to be sure, and when he was certain, he finally stopped attacking it.
